  1. My Ana Grey was like Nilah, she would sit by the window and look outside all the time. I put her in a harness and took her out. She immediately tried to fly off. And then she settled down and sat on my shoulder enjoying being outside. Each time I took her out, she would try to fly off and be abruptly stopped. She would only try once each time, to see if she could fly away. I have not taken her out this year yet as the weather has been cold. But I am now use to what happens and don't worry about it. Luckily she does not chew on her harness so it has remained in great shape. My tribe enjoys being outside in their travel cages as well.
  2. Not to worry, can't wait to see your speckled grey, Ferdi!
  3. Hi Jane, can't wait to hear more about Tatoo and Topper. Kudos to you and your hubby for giving these two orphan parrots a new forever home. Welcome to the Grey family and ask away, we are all here for you!!!!
  4. Oh heavens, get your baby grey. I was busy raising my kids and never had the money to have a parrot. Once they were married or out on their own I was alone and finally got my parrot. I now have three, one for each child! My parrots know them all, including my grandchildren and everyone has learned to accept each other. My parrots have favorites and when my kids visit they choose (my parrots do) which they want to interact with. Nothing is upset then the kids go home my parrots have adjusted to their coming and going. You are over thinking everything, now is the time of your life that you should do things for yourself. My three parrots are like three children, I love it and I believe so do they.
  5. Well then, I am at a loss. Perhaps if you said, "I'll be back" that might help. I say this to my parrots when I leave the house.
  6. I don't think it is jealousy just a little bit of that looks good, I want some. Learning by example, good job Puffers!
  7. Is the bathroom the only room Archimedes has not explored/been given a tour of so to say. He might just be worried about you. If so take him in; wash your hands, flush the toilet, turn on the shower so he know what goes on in that "strange" room. Hopefully that will ease his anxiety.
  8. I have a light grey colored male CAG. Sterling Gris was dna tested so, he truly is a light grey male.
  9. How adorable! Love this thread!!! Hooray for Ella Rose and Missy!
  10. My three love to be misted. I use a very fine sprayer and spray upward. They always open their feathers and get really soaked.
  11. Thank you Dee! Sterling Gris seemed to know this was special so he was very cooperative!!!
  12. Then fingers crossed that you get one of the four already hatched!!!!! If not, not to worry they are so worth the wait!!!
  13. Hi Kim, welcome to the Grey family! Congratulations on your new grey. Can't wait to hear more!
  14. I agree, if I located a wild caught grey/zon/whatever, I would purchase it if possible and care for it to the best of my ability until I found a better solution. I can't believe that the members of this Grey Forum would not support and help me to the best of their ability. Isn't that what we do when one of us rescues/adopts a needy grey. You can't solve a problem by ignoring it/walking on/or closing your eyes because what you see is wrong.
  15. Celji, if you don't want your grey on your shoulder you shouldn't let him go there. I know it is hard to wait when you have a new grey, I know, but in the end if you are constant and stick to your convictions yours and Cody's relationship will be much better for it. Offer your arm and if Cody refuses move on. Be patient and persistent and in the end Cody will step up where you want him to step up. My Ana Grey was an ear biter and when she landed on my shoulder and bite my ear I just flipped her off (she is flighted) and refused to let her sit there. Ana Grey now is a good shoulder sitter and never bites. Persistence wins in the end. Frankly, that is usually why a grey gets his/her way, they are much more persistent with what they want than humans usually are.
  16. I have a very aggressive TAG what is almost 4 years old. She was my first parrot and lived with me for 1/2 year before I adopted an older male ekkie. Ana Grey would never leave Sully allow if he came out of his cage, she would dive bomb him and he always ran and hid. During that time I adopted a male amazon and he and Ana Grey are not friends but with constant reprimanding of them both they have learned to live with each other. After about 2 years, I re-homed Sully because there was never going to be peace with him and Ana Grey. I believe Ana Grey truly hates Sully. In fact Sully has come to visit and Ana Grey immediately dived bombed him and chased him behind the tv. Sully's new owner will not bring Sully over if Ana Grey is out of her cage and frankly I don't blame him. Giving Sully a new home is the best thing I could have done for him. He is meant to be an only parrot of a home and now, he is so loved and happy and has started talking and laughing. Anyway, about 7 months ago, I also brought home a young CAG, Sterling Gris, who just turned a year old this month. Ana Grey, Louie and Sterling Gris always jostle but they do not try to kill each other. They have learned to tolerate each other. It takes constant reprimanding and vigilance on my part and now I can see that they now are usually only fighting for position on lets say a perch.
  17. Hi Abigail and Ziggy. Love your Avatar! Welcome to the Grey family!
  18. Hi Hamda, I look forward to getting to know you and your grey. Welcome to the Grey family!
  19. This is what I found on the Blue Fronted Amazon and the Blue Crowned Amazon: http://www.avianweb.com/bluefrontedamazon.html http://www.avianweb.com/bluecrownedmealyparrots.html
  20. My two greys will still let me give them scratches and cuddles. Ana Grey will be four years old next month. Sterling Grist just turned 1 year so we will see what is in store. I love the closeness and hope it will continue. So enjoy your good fortune.
  21. Yup Dave that's the size cage my birdies have. They are quite happy with it and so am I as the front panel of my birdies' cage opens as well as the door. Great for cleaning.
  22. My three don't poop while on my shoulder. Although Ana Grey is an air conditioning expert and loves to make sure that my shirt shoulder is well ventilated. I just make sure that I wear old shirts and T-shirts.
  23. My three, one TAG, one CAG and a ZON, all are shoulder sitters. My TAG destroyed my gold chain necklace when I first got her and was then not allowed on my shoulder. That behavior has stopped and she is a very good shoulder sitter now. Not one nibble. My CAG has always been a good shoulder sitter, but he is what I call a "gentle giant". Now my ZON is a re-home and he is an ear nibbler and hair preener. He loves it! So it has taken awhile to get him to leave my ears alone, but we are getting there. He does not bite hard now just a nibble. There are times I have a grey on each shoulder and a zon on my upper back. My TAG owns my left shoulder and my CAG my right. My TAG is the leader of my fids. She is quite aggressive and not-afraid of anything. I don't believe shoulder sitting causes any dominance issues. To me it just brings closeness to the four of us.
  24. Hi Bosse, looking forward to hearing about your greys. I love your Avatar. Welcome to the Grey family!
  25. Gracie will be fine. I am retired and am home most of the time, my parrots do their own thing. They like alone time just like people do. So relax, see that Gracie has lots of food, water and toys maybe a radio on and all will be fine.
