1. Love the videos Dan. Dayo is great.Charlie does the same, goes dum the second he sets eyes on the video camera.Charlie will say You love Animal Planet and I am going mad to capture that and send to the the tv station.
2. I think it depends on the bird.If the bird is well behaved, providing some precautions are made,no ear rings, and if you know the bird well enough to judge mood and temper its not a problem. Problems start when the bird will not step up from the shoulder or runs round your back to avoid stepping up. Also the bird can become agressive if someone else comes near while they are up there. Its a matter of choice an if you are willing to take what could be a very nasty bite. I allow Charlie on my shoulder but I choose a time when he is very mellow and friendley. If he is in a mood, no way.

Is he sick?

Hiya. I know just how bad you are feeling. I have been there. The only advise I can offer at the moment is not to rush into getting a new bird. Let yourself heal a bit and then decisions will be clearer. Many people have more than one grey and they talk and love the humans in the flock but as I say I would give yourself some time.

9. My Charlie is chewing his way through a phone book at the moment,he seems to like the challange. He too is naughty and put a hole in my setee the other week.He is fully flighted so all I can do is try and distract him. It does appear that once they start on something they wont give up.He is always goig to the setee to have another bite at it.
10. ouch, that looks painfull. You will have to watch her. I would not allow her to take food from your mouth, infact keep her away from your face and shoulders. As you found out it hurts. Charlie would have a go at me if I went to him after he is put back in his cage before I go out.I have learned to leave him alone at that time. Also they ca as Kenzee does become very excited and nippy when you first come home. I leave mine for 10-15 mins till he settled down before letting him out or giving head rubs.
11. I am sorry you have lost Twinkle. Tiels are brilliant pets. Be comforted by the fact she had a great life with you and is now flying free.
12. Hiya Ralph.I am sorry about your bad news. I am sure Spencer will settle down, he has had a busy few weeks.Just take things slow with him and go at his pace. Offer him treats by hand and talk to him lots.I am sure in no time he will be right at home.I know its been a long wait for you but it is worth it.
13. Hi and welcome. You are wise to do the reserch before purchasing a grey. They are as you say a challenge at times, they are also adorable and can be brilliant companions. It is a question of weather you have the time, space, finance(they can work out expensive to keep)and also the comitment to provide a home for the next possibley 50-60 years . Only you can answer that.Feel free to ask any questions you wish.
14. I managed to see the gp this morning,He has refered me to a specialist, hopefully the lump on my foot wont get larger in the meantime.Just cleaned up and having some lunch before work.
15. Speak to a vet asap.Emergencey vets are available for just this sort of problem.
16. Great decision. You wont be sorry.

19. They look like a very happy group of greys. I too would want them all.Imagine the chaos. I bet you just cant wait.
20. I have only left Charlie once and my Dad moved in while I was away. I was worried about leaving him but he was fine.As lilosmom said the only problem was that he got spoilt rotten. He was given anything he wanted when he wanted it so I came home to a very spoilt bird. My Dad did a fantastic job though. I also have a cousin who is an experianced grey owner who I could call on or failing that I would see if my vet would board him.I would be very doubtful of leaving him in a place that boards other birds because of the risk of disease.
21. Wish I could have one, they are way to cute.
22. Hi. I think the fact that you are taking the decision to own a grey very seriousley makes you a great person for grey ownership. As long as you look to the long term future and accept the grey will be part of your life through many life changes, marrage, children, new home ect I see no problem.I think a grey will accept your mum very well as part of the flock as long as she and other family members take an active role in its day to day life.Good luck in your quest and I look forward to hearing more about you and the potential new grey.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/25 16:58
