1. Your grey is still feeling very strange ad unsure. It can very a lot on the time it takes for them to trust and feel at home. Two weeks is not long enough.Let things go at his pace and do not rush things. For now just talk to him and offer treats by hand. He will come out of his cage when ready. It is best to let him come out on his own and not rush him.
2. I love your birds.I have a tiel called Cracker who I hand fed. He is a monster, spoilt rotten and so self assured, I love him to bits though.I look forward to hearing more about your flock.I am sure you would be a great grey owner if that is what you decide.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/01/31 14:35

Seizures

Hi sorry you are having problems with maggie.Calcium deficiancy is a common but by no means the only cause of seizures in greys. You made the right decision regarding the blood tests.I hope they can give you the cause of the problem. The full spectrum lighting is a good idea and cant do any harm. My old tiel had seizures but they did not appear to follow the same pattern as your grey. She would just go very floppy or fall to the floor and after about 30 seconds would be completely unconcious and thrashing about on her side and back. after a few mins she would come round but be very dazed and unsteady for a few hours.one of her seizures went on for about 5 mins.I had the full range of blood work on her but in her case it was irreversible kidney and liver problems. The seizures probabley being caused by a build up of toxins. Please let us know the results of the tests and how Maggie is getting on.In the meantime keep her warm and tempt her to eat with her favourite treats and make sure she is drinking.Be guided by your vet on any change to her diet.It is also a good idea you had to place a towel on the base of the cage.Good luck

6. Hi Ed I am so glad you are going to give this grey another chance. It sounds like you are the right person for the job and have plenty of knowledge and the back up of an avian vet.I am glad the vet has already seen the bird and you obviousely know what you are letting yourself in for. I hope all goes well bringing him home and I very much look forward to seeing the photos and I hope the birds recovery and transformation. Sheila

10. I love the picture of you and Charlie. You must be so excited.
11. I am glad George is ok Haley. I have had a crazy week. My mum went into hospital on wednesday with an asthma attack so things have been a bit fraught. She is a bit better today but will be in till about Monday or Tuesday.I hope they can get her a bit more mobile before they allow her home, she is very bad on her legs and can just about move round her flat. She is very down at the moment because even at 82 she loves to go out round the shops but is just not able, even with her mobility scooter. I am looking forward to a few glasses of wine over the weekend ,Infact I will have one now.Why not? Things are still very slack in work but we have been told it will pick up in the next week or so. I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

Names.

My charlie says Charlie Farlie and he shortens Crackers name to crack or lengthens it to crack pot.
16. Hiya and welcome. I love the photos. It is fantastic you have bonded so well with Shrodie, well done.I look forward to hearing more about her.
17. Sameera, you can never underestimate a greys intligance.
18. Thanks everyone for the comments. No I have never used a clicker,I just put his foot in the right place and kept saying high five and giving him a treat,he picked it up in about 2-3 very short training sessions. He also does sumersalts on his stick, shakes hands and goes in his cage on command, well, most of the time.It was pure luck he did the high five as he usually sets eyes on a camera and goes dumb.It was not easy holding the camera in one hand and getting him to do a high five. I m expecting!!

CONGRATULATIONS. Thats wonderful news, you must be over the moon. I think getting another bird could go either way.I would not take your bird round bird shops because of the risk of disease.I wish you joy and happines with the new baby when he/she arrives.
20. I really enjoyed that.Dorian was brilliant and you are very talented. Thanks for sharing that with us.
21. HI Viktor. Paco is a very nice tag.I think you are making fantastic progress, just take it slow and the rewards will come.
22. Hayley I hope George is ok.It is so hard when you just want to help them.Keep us up updated. I have an apointment at the hospital for March 19,not too long.My foot is not too bad, its really just a lump of sorts but in a bad place.
