1. Well Dave, who would have guessed. If you can I would drive to pick up the baby. Ask about its diet and any vet records,If possible feed the same food it is weaned on to.Find out if the baby has any little querks, speak to Dave about that:laugh: Ask what toys it likes.Have the cage set up ready for the arrival . I have not had a problem with hand lotion or perfume although I do take care not to handle the birds just after I have put it on. Good luck

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/03/17 22:11
2. I am glad things are coming to a close for you. Enjoy.
3. I love the name Malaika for a grey, It is swahili and means angel.
4. Try giving Simba an old phone book to chew up.This keeps my grey happy for days.I find it a great shredding toy and easy available. My vet gave me a bit of advise when I first got my grey he said "a busy beak is a happy beak" Meaning keep his beak busy with things to chew and distroy. I have found it works very well and I imagine a great help in regards to eliminating plucking. Good luck
5. Good luck Penny. Divorce is never a good experiance, but people often come through it a stronger wiser person, best wishes Sheila
6. Pat, I had no idea you were getting a baby,I have been a bit sporadic on hear lately. He/she is just gorgious.I am sure I have many posts on the babys development to look forward to.
7. Erica thats a great toy.Baxter looks really well and happy.
8. Janet I hope Blue visits soon, I love minding him.I suspect it will be in the summer. I always feel like I am being put in charge of a family treasure when I mind him. He gets spoilt rotten.I was talking to my cousin the other day and Blue was shouting away in the back ground.
9. Dorisandfids,My cousin has a 40 odd year old grey called Blue He was wild caught in Africa and my cousin bought him on one of his first trips to sea in the Merchant Navy. Blue is one of the most well ajusted birds I have seen. Mind you if he does not know you or takes a dislike to you watch out, his bites are leathal. I mind him when my cousin goes on holiday and he is as sweet as pie with me. I think only myself and cousin handle him. He does not like my cousins wife but she can feed him if she is carefull.I have made posts about Blue before and if you look at my profile, I have some photos of him. Also a photo is i the photograph room. Sheila.
10. Zahra congratulations.Noah is doing well for 11 months old.I am sure now the talking has started Noah will pick up more words very fast. I agree that parrots learn by us just talking to them and by us giving words meaning.Repeating words constantley to them does not work with these inteligent birds.
11. I think he is playing Ralph, He want attention and so taps your head.My grey will do that sometimes.
12. I am glad you have got Kiddy. He will need some time to settle in to his new home. The important thing to remember is not to rush him.Let him be the boss of how fast things progress. It is a good start that he will take treats from you, be happy with that for now. All greys differ in likes and dislikes and you will soon learn what his favourite things are.Keep us up to date on how things are going.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/03/15 09:05
13. I enjoyed reading that. Thanks for the link.
14. I am so happy Roswell has been found and is safe. Please tell us the whole story when you can.
15. Only you can answer those questions.I will say that I work full time and feel a lot easier knowing Charlie has Cracker and vice versa while I am out for company.I wish you luck in making the right decision for you and the two greys.
16. I think My favourite thing is the birds aviary. It is great in the warmer weather,I can get the birds out side and have windows open without them being locked in a cage.It also provides a great way for them to get fresh air and sunlight.
17. Poor Keeko, sorry Caroline I cant stop laughing.I can just picture it.
18. Hi and welcome. You are so right when you say hands on experiance is invaluable. Books can very a lot on the advise given, the trick is to judge what you think will build trust and ignore anything that could hinder the relationship between you and your grey. I am not too far from you in Liverpool.
19. I am so sorry to hear about Lacey.I think that was a wonderfull gesture from your vet and I am sure gave some comfort.I know how hard you tried for Lacey and be sure that she knows that. Love Sheila
20. Yes I can imagine. I do the same.I always end up with a basket full of fruit and veg and treats for the birds.Charlie loves his veggies.I get him dates as well, they are a real hit with him. I always get the organic stuff if posible.I am aquainted with the man who manages the fruit and veg isle in the local supermarket and he always tells me what is in that the birds may like. How sad is that.Oh well .
21. If you do change his name try thinking of a name that sounds like Molly,eg Mally,
22. Carol, Miracle is gorgious.I understand how excited you must be.I look forward to seing Miracle grow.
23. My grey has never needed beak or nails trimmed, I use a perch designed to trim them and it seems to do the job. If your grey really needs grooming it is best a vet does it,it is rare that beaks need trimming. It is a good oportunity for the vet to give the bird a good check over.
