Update on Mum

It is a great place,Marina Dalglish felt she was de humanised a bit and so added little things to make it all bearable.I agree that it all helps towards the healing and making people feel at ease. Thanks for the warm wishes. It really does help.
2. I love it when Charlie says "hello there how are you". I love his fire work noises and his space invader impressions.I also love him saying yum yum when he is enjoying his food.
3. I have read the story before and find it amazing.Never underestimate the inteligence and bonding of a parrot.

Update on Mum

Just back from the Marina Dalglish centre. We saw the radiologist from Clatterbridge, had a good talk and my mum has decided to go ahead with radiotherapy. The treatment will start after Easter. She will be going daily Monday - Friday for three weeks. The radiologist was very confident that all will be fine in the future. The Marina Dalglish centre was set up by the wife of footballer Kenny Dalglish who recovered from breast cancer. It is a fantastic place and Marina put in place little thing that make such a difference. We were given a cup of tea on arrival and the waiting room was very cozy and relaxing.A team of girls even offer free manicures and facials to patients.Small touches like that really make a difference.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/03/25 17:21
5. Hello and welcome.I bet the time between now and getting your grey seems like ages.Use the time to reserch all you can on greys so you will be fully prepared when the time comes.
6. I would not trim her nails.Greys need quite sharp nails for grip and filing them may cause her moor problems.

Sleep Time

Have you tried not covering him up, some greys dont like it.If he is panting I would guess he is stressed.Have you put anything new in his cage that he is afraid of,or altered anything at all.It could be the position of the cage that is scaring him, maybe you could move it to where he is more at ease. The panting tells me that he is genuinley upset so do have a good look to find the problem. Is he ok in the cage of a day time? You leave a light on in another room but he could still be afraid of the dark.Hope you find a solution,I too would not be happy to leave him out of a night but I do think something is bothering him.Good luck, keep us informed.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/03/24 13:43
8. Emma is a real sweetheart. I hope she heals fast. As you say we can only do what we can to prevent accidents. I was devistated when charlie hurt his wing,He was in his cage and fortunately my Dad had come round to mine to see the birds and phoned me so I came home and got him right to the vets.I had only been out about an hour.I still dont know what happened,It was about 6 weeks before he flew again but he is fine now. I am sure Emma will heal much faster and suffer no lasting problems.
9. I have seen Cracker grow from 2 weeks old and it is amazing.I love the name shady.
10. Ralph, the jukebox toy is charlies most precious thing in the world. He never stops playing the tune in it.I have a number of the replacement tunes so I change it often,More for my sanity than Charlies amusement,it drives me mad.I am glad Spencer liked his little adventure.

Mums doing well.

Once again, thank you all so much for the kind thoughts and support. It means so much.Mum was great today, and has started eating a lot better. She has just had a nice piece of steak. The nurses are fantastic,I cant believe the care she is getting. Thanks again.
17. He may still feel a bit unsettled. Not all greys talk, though most do with differing ability.I would not give up on your grey yet.My guess is that one day you will be in another room or upstairs and hear from a distance your grey talk. Some are shy talkers and only do so when alone.Even if he does not talk, greys have so much more to offer.
18. Pat, Tyco is being smart, she knows whats good for her and I know you are loving this change in her .

Mums doing well.

As a follow up to my mums operation we went to see the surgion on Wednesday. The good news is that the cancer had not spread into the lymphnodes and she was confident she had removed it all.The bad news was that my mum stopped breathing during the operation due to c o p d and her heart condition. As a result the surgion is not sure if they will go ahead with radiotherapy, but said that decision will be up to the oncologist who we see next Wednesday.I was shocked as I was present in the hospital from 7am till 5pm on the day of her op and nothing was said, but all that matters is that she is ok.The nurse is still coming out daily and injecting heperon to prevent blood clots .Mum was great for a few days after the operation but then went down a bit and was very tired and week. She did seem a lot better today and will be getting very spoiled on mothers day.
20. Well I guess you now know our thoughts on this topic.

Ouch!

I agree with Dave, Greys grow up. As they grow our relationship with them must change,as parents relationships change with children.Your grey ,like many others may not wish close physical contact any more. You need to watch his body language to judge what he now finds acceptable and respect his wishes.Never ever punish any bad behaviour just ignoreing it is enough as long as you re enforce good behaviour with verbal praise and reward, eg head scratch, food treat, toy,.Find what reward your grey responds to most and use this to your advantage. If he adores say a wallnut, only give him wallnuts as reward for good behaviour and not as a regular food item. .This in no way means with hold food, but a favourite treat can be saved as a reward.
22. I loved the video.Well done Emma.
23. It always amazes me how animals of all types still have enough love in them to trust again after they have been so badley treated .We humans would do well to emulate them.
