My vet referes his emergency patients to another practice, they are not avian vets but he insists they contact him if one of his birds comes to them and he will advise them if needed .I am very lucky and only have a 30-40 min drive to my vetand a 15 min drive to the out of hours emergency vets.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/08/09 21:07
If it was my choice I would stick with a vet who has the experiance and knowledge that this vet has.He has a good reputation so trust his expertise. One thing I will say is dont be afraid to ask or question. Some brilliant vets are better with animals than people. My vet is one in a million and will take time to explain things but I count myself very lucky,he is both very experianced with birds and willing to give advise and explanations.
I hope you are now feeling much better.Take advantage of the time off and put your feet up and chill out hear.Boesman was lucky you got home when you did. Thanks for the reminder to us all to keep a close eye on any rope toys and perches.
Well done for realising parrots are a massive responsability and putting the needs of the parrot first. Please do lots of reading and ask any questions you have.
Your baby could be just rehursing sounds ready for speach. They often make gravelly rumbelling sounds when they are learning to talk. If you notice anything else amis,if he is very quiet, not eating or drinking or not playing have a vet check things out.
He is still getting aquainted with his new home and diet so may eat more nuts once the novelty of his veggies ,fruit and pellets wares off a bit.If he is eating the pellets I think he will be fine.Maybe you could offer bits of cheese to up the fat content and scrambled egg.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/08/09 08:17
Azzie has been very thorough in her advise. I think she is spot on.Star is just a baby and will learn different calls and whistles as he gets older. He comes to the side of the cage for attention from you.
I feed Harrisons and I believe the claims do have some truth.I find very little waste, this is helped by feeding small portions and adding more once eaten.Charlie eats his veg and fruit and on the whole is a very good natured bird and to my eyes looks the picture of health.Cracker my tiel also has Harrisons and the same applies to him.
I went to see Laney this afternoon.He/she is a really nice grey and so friendly. His owners have still not been found but the search continues.People have made contact from as far as 150 miles away so I just cant understand how his owners dont know where he is.He was spending the day at the shop and was loving the company and attention. He is behind the counter and a glass screen so customers cant bother him and he was lapping it up.He is someones much loved pet and its a shame.

Post edited by: she, at: 2009/08/08 21:22
Charlie has Harissons pellets available 24/7 and has 2 feeds of soft food, Fruit, veg or birdey banquet. They also get a little treat off my dinner if its ok for them.
