Hi Thank you for your message about Indy. I hope spike gets better soon. As you said in my post the vet bills can mount so do your research about the insurance and am sure everything will be OK. All the best!! Nims

OMG What a story!!! Im glad everything worked out and he didnt attempt to fly to you (even though he clipped as Tracy mentioned they can gain sufficient height to fly) Yes indy does also fly to to wherever I seem to go especially the kitchen (she sees it as thr place her breakfast comes from!).I must admit there have been some close shaves where I have had Indy out of her cage and gone to answer the FRONT DOOR!!!! *Heart in mouth*

nims replied to JokersMamma's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi JokersMamma, Welcome to the forum. Mirrors are generally a bad idea as Joker might fly into it and it can spook them sumtime. The other members have given you great advice and dont worry about th growling he is trying to settle into is new home. Im sure you're going to get on fine he just needs a little time to adjust to his new house and mamma! If you have any questions please post them and there is always someone in the forum that will be able to help. Good Luck Nims -
I think parrots are very in tune with their owners feeling. My CAG will curl up in my lap after my husband goes back to work (i only see him on weekends ) and knows when im feeling a little lonely. Funny little creatures! It was a lovely story linda, very heartwarming. Nims

Hi Marie, When I went to get indy our breeder gave us a carrier (cat/dog carrier) at the time i hadnt thought of getting a travel cage but have since got one and its great. I strongly suggest you get one. We drove to get indy it was a 2 hour drive. Good Luck Nims

Im glad your bird is back to its usual self. Sometime if they're tired they will take a little nap during the day. Its nothing to worry about.

Hi btdaycare, Like I was saying on IM plug-ins, aerosols, scented candles, incense sticks are not good for your birds. Their respiratory systems works a lot faster and is a lot smaller than ours so things like this can be very dangerous for them to inhale. Nims

Nice post Talon and so true. When people post thought-provoking questions they never know what other people will post. Sometimed its difficult to interpret emotion in the written word (i guess the emoticons do help though ) Its a greyt forum and lots of people including myself think this. Where else would I go if I have a grey query?! Keep up the good work! Nims

Post edited by: nims, at: 2008/09/18 21:49

hmmmm OK what I did with my CAG was to put her on her back and giver her to treats and toys to play with but before you do that your bird needs to feel your hand on its back. So start with that and then progress remember this may take a while. You will just need to build up the time that he is on his back. If he is on his back for a period of time give lots of praise and treats. Once he is happy on the floor you can try him on the palm of your hand. Nims

Yes I totally agree this is an accident waiting to happen! As Dave007 said they can get spooked and attempt to fly off even if they are clipped. If you really want them to engoy the weather you can put them in a harness and take them out with you. Or you can buy a nice size cage for them so they can soak up the sun outside! Those are just some of my thoughts! Hope this helps! Nims

Post edited by: nims, at: 2008/09/18 20:58

Thanks for your comments. Yes insurance or savings (in your case Tracy B) )is really important, a few visits to the vets can cost a lot and the bills can mount. In the long run it works out for the best not only for your bird but for your bank balance too Cheers Nims

I was like you.......I wanted to buy everything as soos as I found out I was getting a grey. Like Tracy said I suggest you start buying thing so you can spread the cost as it can get expensive (toys, cage, food etc) Good Luck Nims

Hi, Indy has been given a clean bill of health after suffering from a mild case of psittacosis. Back in July Indy was passing green urine and I knew something was up. Though she was eating well and playing I at times noticed that she was not as active as a young bird should be. I took her to an avian vet and they told me that she may have had psitt1acosis in the past and was fighting it (what a trooper). She hated being medicated and to be honest I had never medicated or syringe fed her until now. But I am happy to announce that she is now perfectly healthy! There are 2 things I would like to point out and they are always get pet insurance for your bird!! I am not sure how most members feel about this but I would seriously recommend it. The second thing is, if you are a newbie to birds like me and you notice something strange there is no harm is giving your vet a call to explain your greys symptoms. Nims
