Hi,
Indy has had a little accident and has managed to crash and cut herself on the top side of her beak. I have cleaned her cut and packed it with some flour to help clot.
There wasn't much blood. But is there anything else I should do?
Thanks

Hi All,
Tomorrow is the day!!! It feels like im getting my first bird again. Can't contain the excitment! Its all been confirmed with the current owner. I will let you all know how Ice gets on.
Many Thanks

wow guys you really came through for me!!
Thank you all so much for your advice. I am sooooooooooooo excited about Ice. To answer some of your questions. Ice does come with his own cage which is by the way absolutely MASSIVE!!
As for handling he seems to be OK with dogs and is happy to sit on shoulders etc but like I said not sure how much he was handled.
Most you may know that I have decided to adopt Ice who is a 4yr old male CAG (very handsome!)
I need some advice on what to to upon bringing him home with me. He will not be used to me so will bite at every chance! Which Im fine with. Should I leave him in his travel cage until he is ready to come out? Or put him in his old cage as soon as?
Im not entirely sure of his diet but I think he is on some sort of parrot mix but would like him to be on a pelleted diet. Should I wait until he has settled in before making this change?
Also Im pretty sure he doesnt know how to step up yet so I will need to work on this too (please can you send me any links/advice around this?)
He is used to being around animals but not quite sure how he is going to be with Indy......any tips on parrot interaction would be great!
Im sorry for the endless list of questions but I want Ice's transition to be a smooth one and want him to be happy in new home.
All advice welcome!
Many Thanks
Nims
Im with them on this one. You have made great progress with your FIDS. So I say go for it. Obviously we can never be sure of health of the bird until we take it to a vet but if plucking is the only issue I think you can work on it together. I think some good food and TLC does wonders! Plus you have the forum here to support you!
Good Luck Erika!

My Grey has plain organic oatmeal for breakfast everyday. I do try and vary it with different things mixed in such as fruit, baby food, crushed pellets etc.
I mix the oatmeal with boiling water (wait until it has cooled before giving it!) and add whatever ingredients and voila!
Hope this helps!
Interesting topic. I have always used non-stick pans until Indy came along. I use them for easeof cooking and had to give them up for the safety of my bird.
Anyhoooooooooooo the point of this post is that there are other makes that are also PTFE free such as gastrolux which is available here in the UK

Hi there,
Sounds like you have quite a dilemma you have on your hands!
You seem to love your bird dearly and the other members have made some good suggestions. Here in the UK we can board our birds with vets you might want to check this out.
I hope it works out for you!

Yes Im really excited! I think Indy will enjoy Ice's comapany and vice versa! He is very handsome I must though Im very biased!
This will be Ice's 3 and final home so I know he will take some time to get comfortable.
Will keep everyone updated on the progress!

I went so see a lady today who owns a CAG and is unable to keep it because she moving back with her mum who is allegic to him.
His name is Ice and he is a 4 year old male. Went to see him today and he is in very good condition. So am very excited that I will have a new addition to the family!
Hi,
African greys are very prone to calcium defeciency which can lead to to other things. She and LMG has given you a few ways to help.
Bird lamp is another ways to help get calcium into them. I have recently got one. Its a good idea if you dont get much sun here in the UK.

Hi Tracy,
The vomiting/regurgitating took place last nite. Since then she has stopped. I gave her her usual oatmean breakfast in the morning and watched her. She seemed to be fine. Maybe she didnt like her dinner?! hmmmmmmmmm is there anything i should look out for?
Thanks
Nims
Thanks Tracy. But Indy didnt swallow it she started to fling it around her cage
there was around a teaspoon that came out altogether.

Another query regarding regurgitation.........My grey Indy had hadher dinner and then was sitting in my lapfor a while. I then put her back in her cage and she started to regurgitate she did this about 3-4 times?
Is this normal for her to regurgitate this much?
Im worried
Thanks
