  1. Oh my goodness Steven! How awful for you! I sooo hope this has a happy ending.
  2. Aw you'll soon be cuddling her again! And you know what they say about absence making the heart grow fonder! We left Alfie for a whole day last week! Mum kept her and the dogs company, but Alfie didn't get out of her cage all day, and do you know what?? She was fine when we got home!!! Lol that was a first for us all! I hope Yoshi comes back to you unclipped - geeze what is it about people and crippling their birds!! If you don't want a pet that flies, get a hamster! Or a cat, a dog a guinea pig! Anything but a bird!!
  3. I think the trips out will do him the world of good. Even just sitting in the park watching the world go by will get him used to seeing people. We did this with Alfie and it really helped her to accept people in the house, not that she's ever really been aggressive to guests, but she is very relaxed around new folks now. Good luck.
  4. Threads about clipping seem to always produce heated debates. I'm with most of the others members here on this and firmly believe in leaving birds flighted. My grey lost the power of her flight through chewing last year and it was simply heartbreaking to see how depressed she got when she realised she couldn't fly. As for the rude lady in the pet shop, she wouldn't be getting any more of my money!! Btw, welcome to the forum, and yes, we would love to hear more about your wonderful rescues!
  5. WHat a fright. I'm totally paranoid about Alfie getting caught up on something when she's flying outside - that's why I never fly her within range of something she could get tangled on - you never know when something will spook them.
  6. Hi Jenn and welcome to the forum. What a wonderful introduction to your family. Please do post some pictures of them all once you have found your way around - we like pictures!
  7. Oh dear what a worry for you when you're not home. I'm so pleased Alfie hasn't figured this out yet.
  8. Lol - I'm sorry for giggling at this but it is soooooooo familiar. You'd never believe (well maybe you would!!) the diet our dogs have since we got Alfie - melon, banana, pinapple - basically if it hits the floor, they hoover it up! And yes, Alfie seems to delight in calling them over, mind you she needn't bother - they can hear food hit the floor from the other end of the house! I'm afraid I don't have any advice to discourage him from doing it - it's just too much FUN!
  9. Wow what a beauty Jay. I thought you'd done them all!!! I love the colouring on the beak too. What a gorgeous bird. Thanks for sharing.

    stepping up !!

Aah what great videos. Milo is such a sweet little bird, thanks for sharing.
  11. Aah Janet he's just beautiful. Congratulations on adding such a vibrant little bird to your flock. His voice will be just stunning once he gets into full song.
  12. That's a good idea of Dan's - perhaps the vet could even put you in touch with someone who has had the treatment, so you can talk to them. Finding out about it on the internet is not so easy, I've looked!! I really do hope you get to the bottom of it soon. x
  13. Jolly well done! She's just beautiful.
  14. What an excellent question! I have no idea! I always give Alfie bottled spring water and just assume that it's ok, but don't know what ph it is.
  15. Lol - I don't think "poor Megan" even noticed the poop! She was so focussed on the food!! ChelseaB - it is an awesome little camera, a Casio Exilim FC100 - the best little compact I ever used. As well as taking great pics, it takes amazing slo mo video. Fantastic and I would highly recommend it. I have some slo mo vid on my YouTube if you're interested.
  16. We once thought that Alf was a lad, But now she's a girl I am glad, She has the prettiest eyes, and so graceful she flies, When with her I am never sad ('cept when she bites me, which isn't very often but one sneaks in now and again lol!) New word - chew
  17. Well done for persevering and figuring it out! I practiced on a toy parrot before I tried putting it on Alfie and it surely did help!!
  18. You wait with your head under the parrot stand for her to drop you scraps of food!! Megan has no shame!!!
  19. This post really touched me. I can't think of any names at the minute but will get back to you if I do.....
  20. Good question, and maybe a tad young at that. All I know is I didn't start with Alfie untill she was about 4 -5 months, and I think I left it too late. She is very reluctant now with baths. We got her at 12 weeks, and, being a first time grey owner, I decided to let her settle in before introducing the stress of water, but I wish now I'd started gently, sooner.
  21. Interesting! What does it say about Scorpios?
  22. Gypsy is a lovely name - good choice.
  23. I can't think of a poem with bread, For there are no rhyming words in my head, I don't want to obsess, So I have to confess, I'm off to watch telly instead! New word - Sea.
  24. I think it's lovely that you're keeping her Judy. Shell - because pearls come in a shell! or Angel - because "someone" brought her safely to you.
  25. What a beautiful little bird - such unusual markings. How sad that no-one has claimed her, but what will be will be - I don't believe she landed in your woodshed by accident. I hope she gets on with rest of your feathered flock too.
