Oh that is good news! So glad she is safely home. Gee Whizz - that's a whole Alfie!! Hope she puts it back on again ok.
-
That is amazing - I never knew such a thing exsisted! Quite a simple concept when you think about it, but I'll bet there's quite an art to doing it correctly. Amazing!

It's wonderful to hear that Jakob is doing so well with you. I've read your latest blog, and I know you still have a way to go with him, but I do think you will have a transformed bird after all the hard work you're putting in. I'm enjoying the updates, thanks for taking the time to keep us posted. -
I hear there's a week in December when the sky's are closed for a jolly fellow in a red suit........ Seriously though, any news of Gandalph?
-
Could be the reason Janet, I'm glad we didn't have her sedated, although it's a big jab to go into the muscle. Lex, when we went to Loch Lomond for a couple of days recently, the hotel we stayed in allowed Alfie to dine with us!

Ahh that's so sad. I hope Gandalph gets home ok - apparantly she's been spotted in CORNWALL!!

We went through the same thing with Alfie. She went through a phase where she was challenging me too on every little thing and the bites were hard. We got passed it though, going on advice from here. And I know it's easier said than done but not reacting to the bite did help, as did letting her know it was not acceptable. Murphy is just young and will get passed this phase too most likely.

Hello everyone, well Alfie's checkup went fine. Vet was quite happy with her, didn't take any blood because they wanted to sedate her to do it, but the vet said she didn't see anything that made her want to take blood so I trusted her judgement. Didn't microchip for the same reason - wanted to sedate her to do it and I just didn't go mentally prepared for a sedation - am going to think on it for a bit because I think I would still like to have her chipped. My own vet that I use for the dogs say they don't sedate to chip so we may go that way. She was happy with her feathers, beak and nails, and the inside of her beak too, and said ALfie was the picture of health, if anything she was leaning towards plump so cut back portion sizes. Because Alfie was so well behaved, (didn't bite anyone) we called in at Pets at home to get her some treats but they had such a poor selection we didn't get anything, so we took her for lunch at Frankie and Benny's instead, but they made her sit outside!! TK Max were more parrot friendly and they allowed us to take her in there while we did a little shopping - we don't get to the city very often and just had to call in for 5 when we were passing the door.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTae2kwW1Xo

Juno's magic quilt! It's absolutely stunning! So many lives have touched and been touched by this masterpiece that it can't help but do good. x

Hi Folks, Alfie is going for her checkup tomorrow. I think she's in good enough health but it's that time of year again. One of the things on my list, along with nails/beak, poop check etc, was perhaps having her microchipped. I've been trying to teach her my phone number, but then decided it would be easier and safer to have her chipped. I know chipping depends on her being found by someone who is honest, but what if that honest person did find her, and she wasn't chipped? Food for thought. Anyway, here's hoping everything goes well tomorrow! Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alfie xx

Alfie has started to sing! The last musical we did was "Annie" and the song, Tomorrow, was being sung alot around Feb/March. Needless to say, Alfie is still whistling it, but just about a month ago, she started singing the word Tomorrow. Now she has started to sing words she already knows, to tunes she has made up - it's sooooooo adorable!! I haven't caught it on video yet, but will soon hopefully.

I was thinking about having Alfie chipped but after reading these comments I'm in 3 minds now. She still has her band and it doesn't bother her at all.

What a warm smile came over my face when I read that Jakob was home. I've read your blog and I'm just so happy that Jakob is finally going to have some peace and happiness. I'm sure you are going to help him get over his fears and paranoias. Thanks so much for giving this special little soul a place in your home and lives. -
Quite normal - one of the bestest sounds in the world - a contented grey!!

Brilliant - isn't it so exciting when they start saying new stuff!! And love her porch!! thanks for sharing.

Lol - I'll stick with my robin thanks!! Worryinly though, just as I arrived at the field this morning, I saw a Sparrowhawk fly away from the feeding station - no Mr Robin this morning and I haven't seen him tonight either - I so hope he's ok - I love this little bird!

Snap. I did a similar thing. -
Hi Louise, These babies are still pretty young, yes? They will let you know soon enough when they want to play. Start off with small foot toys, that they won't be afraid of. As Elvenking says, these baby cuddles don't last long, so enjoy them while you can.

A few of you may remember that I made a little friend back in March this year. This little Robin fed off my hand daily. I watched and marvelled at how he brought his wife along, and although she never came to my hand, they had a little routine that they went though every day. She would sit on a branch maybe two feet away, he would come and get his breakfast off my hand, then he would come and get hers, being very careful to "kill" it first, before he fed it to her. This happened every day until one day in May.......nothing - no sign of either of them. I thought at first that perhaps they were busy with nest duties, but as the weeks wore on and there was still no sign of them I began to fear the worst. Then out of the blue last week, he's back. Looking a little worse for wear - he looks like he's been dragged through a hedge backwards - litterally! Maybe the babies were extra demanding, or maybe the nest was attacked - no idea, but it's so great to have him pick up where we left off. This is a wee video I got this afternoon.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eT5HAj53bk

Thanks Janet, and Chelsea and Jan. Yes - it makes a noise when she presses the buttons - four different noises. She just loves hammering it!!

Just got my copy of Conversations with Cosmo today. I've waited ages for it to be released over here but don't think it has been yet, so I just got impatient and it's come from over there!! I've spoken with the Professor a couple of times via Youtube and she is such a lovely approachable lady. I can't wait to read this - my household is going to be sooooooo neglected over the next couple of days!
-
My goodness I'm not sure about that - I suppose, as in humans, some birds could have bigger feet than others, and I think size in itself needn't be anything to worry about. However if he is struggling to use his feet, you may need to take him to see an avian vet, to find out why he is having difficulties.
