  1. Lol Jan, I really wouldn't be surprised, she regularly gives me signs that she wants to bath, I just think she's opposed it for so long, it's habit now! Haha Dee - I wouldn't put that passed her either! I didn't actually see her fall off the rail, I just assumed it! But you're right, I think regardless of the how, it wasn't a bad experience for her! She is my favourite star too. xx
  2. Good to hear Sadie is home, it sounds like you have things well under control. Her "tickle tickle" sounds soooo sweet. We can't wait to see her! x
  3. Lol yes, and I'm sure she rescued a worm out of a puddle once - and pigeons from a broom cupboard at work!! Pam is funny - I have never heard this one though, thanks!
  4. Lol enjoy the mayhem -it will only get better! And I think you're right Jan, they do learn to do it better!! Earring were once one of Alfies favourites too, and she got so good at it, she could whip one out without the wearer even knowing it!! Seriously though, they get into everything and once they get something in their head, you just can't shift it. No amount of distraction, persuasion or downright bribery will take their mind off of those lovely shiny buttons on thet new blouse! It's a good idea to play a game of "leave that" with your birds, so you can get them to drop something really quickly when it absolutely matters. Alfie unscrewed the top of my nail polish once!
  5. Ooh I hope that's not a true story! I was nearly crying in parts!! His little head hanging on his chest and all!!
  6. Absolutely as Barbara says, take cues from Sadie, but your idea to cover part of the cage from the start, is a good one. That way she can hide away if she wants, but can come out when she feels ready. Covering her at night to keep out any draughts might be a good idea aswell. Hope the homecoming goes well. x
  7. Oh well done you! Sadie will come along fine with some tlc and a good diet, and any little problems that do crop up, you know the good folks at GreyForums will be here to help and lend moral support. x
  8. Another wee breakthrough in showertime today - Alfie flew off the shower rail and down to me while I was in the shower. Now fair enough, it wasn't exactly deliberate on her part, I think she fell off the rail and landed on me 'cos there was nowhere else to go, but land on me she did, and lived to tell the tale, so I'm hoping that she reflects on her little impromptu shower and will realise that showering is not actually eternal torment sent by the devil. They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!! I think Alfie is smart enough to figure that out..... eventually!!
  9. Just a wee update on Alfie with her harness, she has never once not let me put it on all summer. She even leans into it and puts her head through herself when given the chance. I have tried to video putting it on her, but I have to just set the vid up and mostly the action moves out of shot lol! And David has tried to video it once, but as soon as he is in the equation all bets are off!!! It's too cold really to take her out walking with us now, but I'm def going to keep her accustomed to it over the winter so we don't have the same hoo-ha come Spring!
  10. Chilli peppers are def ok - ALfie love's them fresh, just remember to keep your fingers away from your eyes - oh, and no kissies after they've had chillis either because ouch!! I have also read conflicting advice on garlic, so I remove the sticks from ALfie's tidymix - better safe than sorry!
  11. Well hello there! That must have been one heck of a holiday! x
  12. Two beautiful birds who knew more love in the past 18 months than many souls know in a lifetime. Thinking of you all. x
  13. Jings! Some differing opinions here! I think if you have a choice of a safe old cage or a safe new cage, just go with the cheapest.
  14. This is such terribly sad news. I am so sorry for your loss Dee. xx
  15. What a lovely story. I have never heard it before - thanks for sharing.
  16. I agree - what works for one might not work for another, when your bird doesn't like it, it's just a case of trial and error to see what they object to least. I shower Alfie in her travel cage, which she now tolerates - we have even progressed to once or twice showering on top of it rather than in it. I have also found that she prefers the water to come from underneath rather than raining down from above, which I find wierd as rain is natural!

    Pets Are Top

Cool site - just trying it now thanks!
  20. Hehe priceless! At least they weren't pinching your pen or throwing your glasses on the floor! That might come though lol!
  21. Gee Whizz - I read these updates with my heart in my mouth!! It's just brilliant brilliant news to hear Kopi is feeling better enough to make a little mischief!!! LOLOL - what a great picture this painted - I can just imagine him!! Keep doing what you're doing Dee. xx
  22. Oh my goodness Dee, I can't believe what you've been through this week. This was the last thing I expected to read about when I came on here tonight. So very glad to hear he is home with you again, will pray for Kopi's recovery. xx
  23. Well done Krystal, on geting Tesla to take a treat from you - brilliant baby steps. One thought for the trimming is to get a Sandy Perch. http://cgi.ebay.com/Sandy-Perch-jumbo-12-bird-perch-ap-2-3-Dia-/360293510229?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e32aac55 They're not mentally expensive and they really do the job. Alfie has several dotted around the house and I never need to trim her beak or nails at all - on this years vet visit, they said she was spot on! It's so much less stressful for Alfie and us!!!
  24. (read with a scottish accent!) When Alfie nips my feet it makes me want tae greet! She's such a wee monkey but she can be affy sweet. New word - Pies
  25. Please don't force Pepper into anything - he's trying to tell you he's not ready to step up yet. He's not been with you that long has he? I think there's still time for him to come round to you on his own. It's worth baring in mind as well, that everytime you move away after he has bitten, you are teaching him something. Also, was this video edited in anyway? I saw him do the toilet twice in the space of 5 minutes which could also indicate stress. He really is such a sweet bird - many would have just shredded your hand completely in this situation. Just give him time, patience and oodles and oodles of love - although I'm sure he already gets a ton of that! Thanks for the update.
