Boy parrots better talkers than Girlie parrots?
pearllyn replied to lovethatgrey's topic in The GREY Lounge
I have to admit Adina, I once thought the same thing and wanted a boy when we first went to the breeder. Alfie has since changed my mind about it but I can't for the life of me remember where I heard that in the first place!! -
Happy Hatch day Precious, and many happy returns! xxx

Geeze Joey! It's a good job you're there! Imagine Spock telling everyone that he's the one keeping everyone in line but it's you all along!! Keep up the good work (I don't suppose it hurts to humour Spock and let him (i)think(/i) he's the boss!)
-
Good water? He sounds really smart Dee. I can't believe how well he is just settling with you! Well I can really - like I said - he's smart and knows when he's on a good thing! Love the pic - he's handsome!
-
Lol - good old Tobie! Bless him for lifting your mood when you were looking blue! Priceless!

Ooer who to vote for!? Well, I think Renate's poor old Guadeloupe Amazon needs a wee boost because it's extinct, but Jill kind of pulled a fast one by putting BABY photos of her Cuban Amazon right there in the post! In the end though, I'm going to vote for the one which I would most like to take home with me (hypothetically speaking) which is the Saint Vincent Amazon. Pretty colours!

Thanks Judy.

Good news that's he through his little procedure ok. What time are you bringing him home? Oh - you're probably queuing up outside the vets right now!! Let us know what the results say.

Are Atoms a hit with everyone?
pearllyn replied to jessdecutie18's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
I love the look of them, but as Jill says, we can't get them here.....so I just made one!!! My first homemade toy!! A couple of hula hoops and some vet wrap and Bob's your uncle!! Obviously Alfie is scared of it, but I will get some pics up in a couple of months when it has lain around long enough for her to accept it, and I've managed to get it hung somewhere!! I hope she likes it - I've wanted one for her for ages!! As far as attaching to ceiling goes, I'm thinking raw plugs and screws - mine isn't heavey so should stay up ok. -
Just when I was thinking Alfie hadn't said anything new for a while she came out with this one. Sitting in her cage going through her repertoir, out came "I'm soooo sorry!" over and over - it just broke my heart to hear her apologise so profusely when she hadn't done anything wrong - nor has she for months!! Then she started to say it again , in an american accent! This puzzled me for a minute before I realised it was one of my lines in the show we've just done!! She had obviously been listening to me rehearse!! Bless her little cotton socks!! She's such a superstar!! Love her to bits! Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alfie xx

Interesting thread. My observation, of my individual grey - she will step up from anywhere - high or low, and when she was biting, she would bite from anywhere, high or low! The top of her cage is higher than both of us, though she rarely sits there, and all her perches and beds are lower than our head heights. She also often sits on top of doors or curtain rails. I don't have my own wings yet, as I haven't passed my flying test. I think I'd be ok with the practical part, but would struggle with the written.

I love them all! How do we vote please?

Lol - How brave these little predators are! If a bug flies past Alfie - she ducks!

Sheila, so sorry to hear that Charlie still isn't right. You must be missing his terribly. Hopefully now with a good examination while he's under you can get to the bottom of it. x

Lol - I use that word all the time! That is so cool - you'll have to use your undercover skills to catch it on tape!! Good to hear Harvey is talking - you're going to have so much fun!
-
Thank you Spock! Lol Lambert - the wonderful 1's! That has a nice ring to it! And yes - they are there to be appreciated!!
-
Lol jay - good old bribery!! Can't beat it! Seriously tho, nice intro! Hopefully any shy lingerers will take you up on the invite!

Your not alone Jill - Alfie reached her terrible twos early too - around the same age if memory serves. The good news is, while I'm not going to say we've passed it (still plenty of time for a relapse!) we have certainly gotten over that initial phase that you are going through just now - and Alfie's behaviour was just what you are describing to the letter (remember that one afternoon where I couldn't walk my dogs because Alfie wouldn't go into her cage and I cried on your shoulder all day!!?) The bad news, at least it was for me, was you may just have to grit your teeth and take some bites before you see any improvement - it worked for us. Just like Harvey, Alfie would bite hard if we were putting her in her cage - she drew blood on a daily basis, but what turned the corner for us was the timeout cage, and I can honestly say she never bites any more when we're asking her to step up, or putting her in her cage. Regarding securing him to put hiim in his cage, I'm afraid I just put a hand over Alfies back and took the bite - when I didn't react to the first two or three, she gave up. But if you address the biting thing first, that won't be an issue. If he's getting wide and see's it coming - try the old smoke and mirrors trick - have him concentrate on something else while you get him into a position where he finds it difficult to fly off - for instance if he's on your hand and you keep your hand close to your body with harvey at a 90 degree angle to you, he wont be able to open his wings easily and you can have him in his cage before he sorts himself out. Also, if I want to secure Alfie to put her in her cage (she still resists occasionally, but only for a minute or two before the humans prevail) make him think he's not going into his cage, but ask him to step up and then head for his tree. As you put him into position to step off, secure him while his mind is on the step off! Just a couple of suggestions, they might work for you, might not, but they did for us and we're all in a happy place right now! So don't despair! I can't recall how long this phase lasted with Alfie, it probably seemed like forever at the time - maybe a month or two? They're all different anyhow so maybe Harvey will get over it quicker - there does seem to be some similarities popping up between them though!!  Take a deep breath and good luck! x

Lol - ME TOO!!!! My hula hoops are on their way from ebay!! I can't wait!! That one looks awesome! Did Mojo take to it right away? I'm hoping if Alfie sees me making it she will come and investigate like she did with the Christmas tree!! Well done for a great looking bit of D.I.Y.

Oh wow that is so great! You've caught me on the hop - I thought he was coming home tomorrow!! All the better though that he is already there! His journey home sounds very familiar to me - that was Alfie to a t! Swinging upside down but in a relaxed kind of a way! It sounds like he is home Dee, I'm so happy for you. x

Please help me Name these GREAT toys!!
pearllyn replied to lovethatgrey's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
These are great toys Adina - and not expensive at all considering they are handmade! I love the one with the ducks - I'd call it Emmas Teddies and Ducks! However, I think ALfie would prefer the one with the teacups - she loves links! GOod luck with the name finding!
