1. Poor little scrap. I so hope she gets a good home, but if you do take her, be sure to keep everyone safe and quarentine her. Good luck with your decision.

3. It's so good to hear Spock is maintaining his weight - that surely must be a good sign? And you must be thrilled he is being more cuddly with you. Perhaps having Joey take the wheel for a while is letting Spock have a little rest?!! Keep on improving Spock - we're all rooting for you! x
4. That's so sweet! So where is your beak? Lol! Thanks for the update!
5. I'm not sure, but given how far away she was, I'm leaning towards telepathy.... David had been away all morning when he phoned home. I was chatting away with him and Alfie was maybe 12 feet away sitting on top of her cage. In the middle of the conversation David told me he'd had a cup of coffee, and immediatly he said it, Alfie echoed "cup of coffee". It's something she'd never said before, and hasn't said since. I was gobsmacked at the time, as I'm sure she couldn't have heard him say it, we weren't on loudspeaker, just phone to my ear. Sometimes when I'm about to say something, or do something she'll beat me to the punch, like if I'm about to call the dog, she'll do it a split second before I get there! It sure does make you wonder! Does anyone else have any similar stories?
6. Lol - funny story, but so true!!! Non birders just don't seem to get what the big deal is! I'd never leave my birdy outside while i went into a shop though!! I don't even do that with my chihuahua!! Thanks for sharing.
7. Oh that is sooooooo great. I love a happy ending!! Thanks for the good news!
8. This book is def on my to read list! I love a good bubble!
9. JillyBeanz wrote: Lol - it nearly did!! Those were darn cute babies!! Don't feel too bad though, cos even though I only voted for one, all three entrants are getting a karma from me!!
10. Thanks folks - she is fine now, thanks Dan, by the time I had finished rinsing I couldn't see any sign of polish left on her tongue - she was soooooo good and just basically sat with her tongue out for me! It was a scare though - I was amazed afterwards that I hadn't panicked, but it didn't occur to me at the time!!
11. Just a wee update on the three strikes policy - it's so effective Alfie has learnt to take herself off to her cage herself when she has misbehaved! I'm not sure if it's entirely a good thing, she might consider it a game, we'll see! It started with her going and sitting on top of her cage after biting chunks out of the couch, I'd give her the warning , then go to remove her to her cage but she'd just go herself and sit on top. She can do what she likes in (or on) her cage and I never tell her to shush or anything, so when she's in "that" mood off she goes to take it out on her cage. But this morning she was being particularly mischevious and I wasn't paying attention as I was hoovering, she swooped in and pulled my hair and before I could get my "by gum!" out, she had actually put herself into her cage! She didn't close the door, but maybe that'll come!!
12. As Janet has said, distraction is a good idea. When Alfie is, shall we say, whistling over enthusiastically, I say to her, in a barely audible whisper, "sshhh do it quietly". She immediatly stops what she's doing to listen to what I'm saying and that in itself breaks her concentration, she usually goes on to mimic my whisper and continues quietly - for a while! As for removing her, you would have to be really sure wether that's the road you want to take. Don't forget these noises are what greys do - chances are you chose to have a grey because of their mimicking abilities. The fire alarm, while annoying to you, is just your grey doing what comes naturally, and is that really something you want to punish her for? While she will never "unlearn" the fire alarm, if she hears it less, she will repeat it less. Alfie whistles Rudolph the rednosed reindeer at christmas time, but it peters out quickly after, and we don't hear it the rest of the year. Just try to burn your dinner less!!  (just kidding!) If she's screaming excessively and uncharacteristically, there may be a reason for this too, which you would need to investigate further. The terrible twos most definitely exist! We started ours around 16 months!! And you're right, picking her up would definitely be considered (certainly by her) to be giving attention! Good luck with her - if there's no underlying reason for it, the screaming will probly subside in time!
13. Not according to Alfie - she said her first words around 6 months and has been steadily adding to her vocab ever since.
14. That's excellent Janet - real professional looking! Mine's a little squint, but I don't think that's what's putting Alfie off - she's just a scaredy cat! She'll face up to an 8' Christmas tree, or our four-leggeds with fangs and fur, but this round thing with her toys hanging on it.....waaaaaay too scary!
15. Last wee Alfie managed to get the top off of my nail varnish - she didn't break it off but actually unscrewed the top. I have let her play with screw tops in the past in the belief she wouldn't be able to take the top off. She dropped it straight away but got a tiny blob on her tongue, which she let me rinse of immediately. She doesn't seem to have had any adverse effects from it. She hasn't offered to go near the nail polish again. Just thought I'd share - that's the last time I underestimate her - ever! Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alfie. xx

17. Lol - too funny! Thanks for sharing.

I can't wait til she wants to play on it! Thanks for the Karma . Janet, good luck with yours!

Post edited by: pearllyn, at: 2010/03/29 22:39

20. Issac sure sounds like he's coming along and getting a big boy - eating his beans!! That'll make him grow big and strong!
21. It sure sounds like a hoot in your house Dee - poor dogs must be wondering what's hit them!! It's so great to hear Kopi is just making himself right at home!
22. Lol - you def need to get a video of her next outing! She's a natural entertainer!
23. Jay that looks a lot like mine!! Except mine doesn't have a parrot on it yet, and plus, I decided (!) to go for the non-symetrical look - you know, to add variety!!! Easy as pie to do though, and Jess you can get small hoops (timneh sized!) off ebay! You should def have a go Janet, if I can do it, anyone can!!
24. If you've ever wondered how a confrontation between a Red Kite and an African Grey would turn out, wonder no more!! Alfie came face to face with a Red Kite this morning (fair enough, he was a little stuffed) and chewed his beak clean off!! She may have felt she'd been a little harsh on him though cos she tried to kiss and make up at the end!! Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alfie xx
