Lol Dee - give him a minute......! These pictures really made me laugh because I remember a trip to the vets with Alfie once when we met a Cockatiel there. He wouldn't stop wolf whistling at her and poor old Alfie was stuck to farthest away corner of her travel cage! A red kite she can deal with, but a cockatiel in luuuuuurv? Forget it!!!

Yes - I agree with Jill! Only the "right" sort of person would take on a less than perfect bird. It's not like they're gonna buy a plucker as a fashion accessory! GOod luck with your search.

Alfie did the same - started off great then had a quiet period. I find she does have a favourite word, phrase or sound at any one time, and I just "kickstart" some other things so she's not just saying one thing. After a couple of months where she hasn't said anything new, she just started coming out with a couple of new things! I suspect Paco will start coming out with more stuff when the mood takes him!

{Feel-good-0002006E} Funny. Thanks for all your replies folks - it was starting to worry me though, it doesn't so much now. I'll just keep an eye on the weight - which so far is reasonable stable. Thanks. x

celticdance wrote: Get a cuss box!! The £80 we gave to charity at the end of the first week sure changed our habits!! On a serious (semi) note though - the list of ways Alfie has changed all of our lives is almost endless, but here's an abridged version. 1)While I never considered myslef impatient (where my animals are concerned) Alfie has taught me that a neverending supply of patience is a must for parrot owners - in turn, this spills into the rest of my everyday life and perhaps makes me a nicer person to be around for humans too. 2)We are all eating more healthily - fruit and veg are on the menu everyday (dogs too) and ready meals are virtually a thing of the past! Plus, my creative cooking skills have improved 10-fold! 3)David had a severe phobia of winged things B.A. (Before Alfie) and now he is completely cured! 4)My family has decided I'm a 100% fruit loop - they were 85% sure beforehand but now they're absolutely sure - between the cessation of all breaks and hols (they don't get that at all) and the atom hat, they've decided I'm completely crackers. 5)Alfie has taught us to find joy and laughter in the tiniest of things - who knew a little duck impression would fill us with such wonder! And the giggles that come when Alfie decides to pick an argument with an empty toilet roll - priceless! I understand what has been said about all the hard work involved, and the sacrifices that one has to make when you have a parrot in your life, but to me these are acceptable trade offs, no question. The only negative comment I can't make about Alfie - she is such a time waster - the amount of times I get sidetracked playing with her, or even just watching her, when I should be doing other stuff - like chores! There's just not enough hours in the day! To cut a long story short (oops - too late!! ) Alfie has enriched our lives in so many ways - we all love her to bits and are simply gobsmacked by this wild creature who can fly up to the highest curtain rail and have quiet time to herself, but more often than not, chooses to come and sit with us and be part of our family. Amazing!

He's such a handsome boy!! Thank you for humouring us and posting these lovely pics - I know it's not easy getting a shot of a grey who does not wish to be photographed!

It's a great idea, just take extra precautions, like maybe a screen or curtain hanging over the outer door so there's no chance of him escaping. When we move, Alfie is going to get her own garden that's full of parrot safe planats and trees, that she can sit out in the sun, and where we can join her! Good luck and pictures please when you're done!

That is good news Sheila, not the folliculitus obviously, but that you now have something to treat - it must feel like a great weight has begun to lift. Well done for perservering when you knew something was wrong, but the "experts" were telling you otherwise! Hopefully the painkillers will help take the edge off and Charlie will be back to his old self before you know it! x

The last 3 times we have gone out in the evening, Alfie hasn't touched her food. She usually gets fed out on her stand, but these three times lately when we've been going out, we've left her with her food in her cage at her teatime, but when we've come in 4 or 5 hours later she hasn't touched it, but will tuck in readilly when we take her out and put her on her stand with her food. I'm worried that it's becoming regular - I don't want her not eating when she's in her cage. Any suggestions?

Small problems with Yoshi... need advice

Alfie has gone through that loud phase, and it did pass. In the meantime - earplugs! Padding around her stand is a good idea too! -
The purpose of the the atom hat is 2-fold! First of all, it teaches Alfie that it's not as scary as it looks! And secondly it stops her (for a little while) from pinching your lunch right out of your mouth! Oh the things we do for our birds!

Lyric wrote: Thanks Jen! Jess - I have a very strict policy about Alfie not chewing human noses!

Yes Jen, this is a very interesting topic - I love stuff like this. I def think N'kisi and his owner had a telepathic link - I don't see how else you could explain it, once you remove visual and audible clues, telepathy is all that's left! I've also definitely experienced telepathy on various levels with my dogs - I'll maybe post about that in a non-grey room!!

Jayd wrote: Lol Dee - I think Jay is hinting for some more photos!! Are you having any sunny days yet? It's really good to hear Kopi is giving you that "awestruck" feeling - I still get it daily - almost two years in! You've been due some good luck Dee, but more than that, you are truly blessed, as we all are, to be able to share our lives with these amazing creatures.

Alfie says she is telepathic - not psychic!!!   I do vaguely remember reading about N'kisi somewhere - I'll have to look him up again. Jan, that's what I thought - you know when you see a flock of birds all change direction at once? Dee lol - you'll have to watch what you're thinking!

Smashing!! That has to be very funny - would love to see the video if you manage to capture it! Thanks for sharing.

Folks, this thread is a few months old and I don't think we've heard from Rhonnie in a wee while. As far as I know, she never got Ceasar back.
-
I do think she's smart and to be honest, I struggle to channel that intelligence sometimes. Can anyone give me any ideas what next to do with her to stop her from becoming bored? Having said that, she only ever naughty occasionally, and never bad or malicious these days.
-
I suspect a jealous grey on your hands would be a bigger problem. Seriously, if Ash is doing this screeching non stop, I would be worried there is some underlying problem causing her to behave this way. How long has she been doing it, and for how long at a time? Alfie started to scream about a year ago, a couple of weeks later she went really quiet, then started to chew her feathers. It turned out to be a mite problem which thankfully is all behind us now. I'm not saying that's what is wrong with Ash though. Just keep an eye.

Lol - photos would be good! Alfie likes to hide under stuff aswell - cushions, newspapers and the like! Hope he bounces if he does manage to fall - these birds can be nerve wracking at times - I've grown 7 grey hairs since we got Alfie! Thanks for sharing.

What a little cutie you have there!! He sounds like he's making himself right at home - hope he gets on well with the locals!!
