Lol - that's the second time today that I've heard the ash getting blamed for something rediculous!!! :D So what words is he saying? Or is that in another thread somewhere that I've missed?
-
That's exactly how I feel Adina - how could anyone possibly pick up a baby grey and not fall for it instantly? And Jill!!! How on earth did you manage to leave that baby girl in that petshop?! You're made of stronger stuff than I!! Lol Dan - been there done that!! Would you believe it's harder for me to look at birdies I can't have?! Handing back a 2ct blue diamond would be easier to me than handing back a baby grey!!

Maggie and Jay, it's so great to hear that Spock is feeling better. It been a rocky road for a while but the love and care you have been giving Spock has ensured his recovery. Love the photos - although it looks like there is some serious outnumbering going on there!! Lol! Thanks for the update.

Hold it, just to be clear, I'm fairly certain there won't be a baby grey heading this way anytime soon - I couldn't bring any baby anythings into the family unless we all wanted them. Plus, we will be moving house, not sure when, but it's on the cards, so def no babies before then! I was just gobsmacked that he wanted to take me to look at something I can't have!!! Dave, I've no idea how you do it! I bred horses for a little while and after I sold the first two, I kept the rest and gave one to family - just to keep her close!!!

Well, wherever it was posted - HAPPY HATCHDAY SUNSHINE!!! xxxxx -
Hi Sue, welcome to the forum. It is so great that you have rescued this sweet little bird from the life she had. What is her name? Would love to hear more about her and how she is settling in with you. Rescuing an older grey is quite daunting for some, and it's good to hear "happy endings" for prospective rescuers. Hope you enjoy the forums. Lyn & Alfie xx

So lately we discovered there is a couple breeding greys locally. We met them today and turns out they just had a clutch and have got some babies. now David knows I can't see babies of any sort and not want one, so when he said to this couple today that he would like to come and see the babies, my head went WWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I contained myself until we got back to the car and asked him "so are we getting a baby bird" and he said, quite matter of factly, "no I just though it would be nice to go and see them"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLLOOOOOO!!! Do you not KNOW me?????!!!!!! To be honest, I'm still stunned! How he can possibly think I could go and meet a baby grey and not buy them all, I just don't know!! Men!!

Haha Jill! That's funny! After all the naughtyness he's been up to he maybe thought you deserved a treat!! I'm glad to hear he's being a good boy! Long may it continue - no reason why it shouldn't!

What lovely birds you have! Thanks for sharing I would give you a bunch of Karma too if we still had it!

A couple of things could be going on here. The first thing you said that jumps out at me is "he doesn't want to come out sometimes, so I'll offer him a step up and all he does is bite at me." It seems to be that he is trying to tell you what he wants, so don't force him. The next, that he is cage aggressive - if this started with the move, it could be that he was feeling a little insecure because of it and now needs to feel safe in his cage. Alfie went through a cage aggression phase aswell and to be honest, I just respected that it was her space and let her be. Finally, you say he's feels like a different bird to the one you hand fed. That's because he kind of is. Although he's a long way off of maturing, he is growing up and become more independant - pushing boundaries. You may see a few more versions of your baby before he's through!. If he is still happy to play and dance with you on his terms, just accepet them - you will both be happier for it. The bottom line is, you can't force a grey into doing anything he doesn't want - well, you can, but that won't lead to anything good. If it's any comfort to you, Alfie went through a similar phase to what you describe at that age, she's just turned 2yo and is the sweetest little bird at the moment! If it's any comfor

That is a lovely colourful shot of Ana Grey Janet! Personally speaking, as a person who just loves looking at pics, I don't think we get enough posted on here! More please everyone!

Haha Dan! I never thought of it like that! I swear that's not what happened! Yes Janet, we've had a lovely couple of days - she had plenty of shade though.

That is just soooooo funny - I was laughing hard at this one Adina!! Thanks for sharing Emma's ism's!!

This sure is good news Sheila. It's been a bit of a long haul for you both but at least you sound like you're on the road to recovery now.

Lol - we're pretty sure Alfie is a girl - we saw her ovaries!! -
Lol "How ya doing?" from an upside down Emma - too funny! Alfie hangs off our hands all the time so I can get the visual of the "handbag" parrot. Funny! Thanks for sharing.

Adina that's great. I started with Alfie when she was younger but gave up as she just didn't have the concentration. I've been meaning to try again with her as I think she'd be more receptive to it now. I've clicker trained my dogs and to some extent my horses to with great success. The only thing I would suggest would be to use an actual clicker if you can - they're dead cheap on ebay. The reason is, a pen is something you are likely to use in everyday life and you could inadvertantly click a behaviour you don't want. Also, the click of a clicker is very distinctive and sharp. Good luck and do please let us know how you come on.

Actually, Alfie is moulting at the minute and come to think of it, she is being a little louder than usual!

Thanks you two. x

Welcome Katy and Dusty! What a cutie pie Dusty is - you must be so thrilled having him in your home. Looking forward to hearing more about you both and perhaps some pics. Lyn & Alfie x

Talon is right about the hours of sleep Jess, even with naps during the day, 8 hours of solid sleep at night isn't enough for a grey. Also you mentioned feathers - is she or has she been moulting lately? I think Alfie's first real moult may have had something to do with her screaming - it has to be a bit ouchy for them. Hopefully, you'll have a good vet visit and know that whatever it is can be sorted by changing a few things in her routine.

Sorry to hear you are still having this trouble Jess. If this is persisting, you need to be absolutely sure there is nothing physical going on that is causing it. Have you had her checked lately? Assuming there is nothing physical, you need to be consistant with your reactions. Timeouts worked for me, but whatever you do, you need to do it every time. As Dave says,, every parrot screams to some extent. I know I've said it before, but earplugs aren't as silly as they sound. Or headphones with your favourite music. If this is a passing phase, this may help you get through it with your sanity intact! Good luck with her.
