  1. Awesome - I love these.
  2. Hi Missy, sorry, I just read your other post and asked for the symptoms before reading this one. How long did those symptoms last when he got poorly the first time? I don't know if it could be hormonal - it seems a bit strange to me that hormones would start to cause this at 14 yo, but I really don't know. What do you feed him? There are some very knowlegable members here, but without seeing Murphy, it's very difficult, if not impossible, to say what's wrong with him. I hope you get to the bottom of it and get your happy, loving boy back again.
  3. Thanks Steven. Don't be dismayed about the harness - Alfie has gone through a phase where she didn't want it on, but today took it no problem. Isaac may well come round. I got a couple of pics while we were along the river Janet, but this was the best one!
  4. I can't remember if this has been posted before, but even if it has, these are sooooo funny, it's worth anther look! ALAN!!! Hahahahahaahaaaaaaa!
  5. So sorry to hear that Murphy is poorly. Please let us know how you get on at the vets. Do you have and Avian specialist near you? Getting him seen sooner reather than later is very important. Can you tell us what his symptoms are?
  6. Smashing videos Sheila, thanks for sharing them with us.
  7. Sheila that's just a fabulous video - it must have been so surreal just to see a giraffe wandering past! Awesome. I'd love to go on safari, but your lovely vids are the next best thing. Thanks for sharing.
  8. We packed up all the girls this morning and took off down to Seahouses to visit David's Mum. Alfie came along in her travel cage and we all sat in the garden and had a picnic - Alfie ate when we did and sat quite happily taking in the sights and sounds. On the way home, we stopped off for a walk along the river, Alfie put on her Harness without so much as a squawk or a flap, and spent her time flying between David and I. When we got home, I put Alfie's tea on, and then jumped in the shower while we were waiting for it, and God love her, she'd had such a big day, she felt asleep on the shower rail! She never opened her eyes once!! She'll sleep tonight! Hope you and yours are all well. Lyn & Alfie xx
  9. They all develop at different rates, so answering the question, when will Murphy reach a certain level, is just about impossible I think. Certainly, the more time and effort you spend with him, the quicker he will pick things up. Alfie started to talk just over 6 months, but training her to do stuff was a little more difficult due to her non-existant attention span!! But as the others have said, our birds constantly amaze us, whatever their age and level of acheivment. Jillybeanz posted a thread just today about Harvey putting in a cheeky little word right in context, and not too long ago Danmcq posted an astounding thread about a 2 yo grey named chaucer. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?189357-Cognitive-abilities-of-a-Grey/page2 there are many amazing greys on this forum, we constantly hear of their achievments and antics, and I believe many of them, whom we hear of regularly, range between the ages of 2 and 5 years old, so if Murphy isn't already, you haven't long to wait before he is knocking your socks of with his abilities!
  10. Hehe Jill - you know what they say - kids learn what they live!! I can't imagine where Harvey's gotten that!!! Thanks for the giggle!
  11. God bless her......seeing a birdie in that condition, it just breaks my heart to think what she must have endured to make her so featherless. The look on that dog's face is just priceless!
  12. Wow Sheila - what a super video. Those pelicans look prehistoric!! It must have been an awesome holiday. Thanks for sharing a little of it with us!
  13. You have my sympathy Paul, but F.A.R.T.ing with friends will help you to cope better with situations like this one, should it ever happen again (heaven forbid) See you there!
  14. Steven, I think you are doing everything you should for Isaac, and Isaac is just being a normal, inquisitve grey - who is just starting to push boundaries! I have suspected for sometime that you love this bird, and heavens, Isaac gets more out of cage time than a lot of birds do. You are dead right though about not just wanting to say "no" to all the forbidden stuff that Isaac has his eye on, but instead, wanting to give him something in it's place. All greys develop differnetly though, and one thing I have observed with Alfie is this. For the last year and a half, Alfie has had no attention span whatsoever, so trying to teach her something to take her mind of whatever she has her eye on at the time has been a non starter - until recently. This might not be the case with Isaac, so instead of giving him a new toy, why not try actually teaching him something, like wave hello or fetch, or whatever. The other thing, Alfie is not into her toys at all. She will play with them when she feels like it, but not very often. She has hundreds of toys that I rotate regularly, but she hardly plays with them, and can go for weeks without playing with any toy at all. She will play with toys that are inside her cage 4 or 5 times more than she will play with them when they are out of it. In light of this, when she is in "one of those" moods when absolutely everything is on her hit list, I put her in her cage and she goes round every single toy in there and knock seven bells out of it! I have used time outs for Alfie in her travel cage, but that's just for biting. She hasn't bitten in months. As for keeping Isaac off of stuff that you really don't want him on, like the fridge seal (one of Alfie's favourites too) try hanging something unusual there - like a sock adorning your favourite picture, or a hat on the fridge! Some members have had great success with the old "sock on the door" trick! I'm not saying any of this stuff will work for Isaac, but it's always something else to try! Good luck, with this, the next phase in Issacs development. Just enjoy it, for he'll soon move on to the next!!
  15. I really get you - I decided in the early 1990s that I would like a grey - Alfie is now 2 years old and I still get that "WOW" factor! I wish you many many happy years with Murphy. P.s. Janet - 30 years......really? Wow!! I thought I'd waited a long time - you must have the patients of a saint!
  16. Jill, I really enjoy hearing how Harvey is growing up - being that he is related to Alfie (twice round the bend etc) I love to read how his behaviour compares with hers. It's lovely to keep in touch with "family". x

  17. Sheila, I'm really glad I've gotten to know you, I always anjoy reading the threads you post, and your replies to mine. You are a valued member of the forum. x

  18. Janet, you're such a lovely lady who always has a kind word - you seem to have commented on every post I ever wrote, and I really appreciate that. I also love to hear about Ana Grey, who sounds like a really beautifully raised grey. x

  19. Jill, just wanted to swing by and say I really enjoy hearing about Harvey and how he is growing up. Seeing as he is Alfie's cousin (twice round the bend etc) I love to compare his with her progress - they really are very similar and it's really nice to me to be able to keep in touch with "family" xx.

  20. Today was International Dawn Chorus day. We got up at 3.30am yesterday to have a listen. Here is a wee vid for those of you who like a lie in but would still enjoy the birdsong!! I would love to take Alfie along, but it was a little before her rise and shine time!!! Lyn & Alfie XX
  21. Poor Ana Grey - I get that way with a raggedy nail - I just can't quit till I put it right!! Great vid Janet - thanks for sharing!
  22. Lol Ryan that is so funny - probly not to Paco tho!! And your right, thinking of Ana Grey coming out with a big caw caw is very funny!!
  23. Hahahahahahahahahhahaaaaaaaaaaaaa DOUBTFUL!!!
  24. Janet - what have you done!!??!!!! I'm completely hooked on The Vampire Diaries!!! I'm only on Ep 6 but stuck like glue to it!! Cheers!!! lol!
  25. Well I think all things Corvus get a hard time. I realise they can sometimes be a little.....unsavoury, but you only have to watch a crow defend it's young from a buzzard 3 times it's size to realise how brave and fiercely loyal and protective of family they are. Admirable qualities I think.
