  1. P.s. Renate - good thread! I've reputationed you!
  2. Oh my goodness Alfie does exactly the same!!! She is gentle when she removes a scrunchy, but when I'm wearing my hair up with like, a butterfly clasp she absolutely attacks it!! And she preens me when she's in the mood!! Apart from the hair thing, Alfie has a fetish for anything she's not allowed!! LOL!
  3. Lol - thanks Janet - just have to figure out how to use it now!! Oooh copying and pasting works!!! Haha!!
  4. Thank you ladies. Taking photos is so easy when you're surrounded by inspiration - and how could I not be with all these beautiful animals around? Renate, I did think about posting it in the photography thread, but I thought, like Jill, that there are a few new members floating about who have other pets and wanted to let them know about this thread. x
  5. This is something I do think about often Janet. If something happened to me, I know without doubt that David would look after Alfie, but if, Heaven forbid, something happened to both of us, that's a different matter. I don't have any other family who are in a position to look after Alfie just now, and I think the only provision I could make would be to leave her with an animal charity. We have several smaller ones in the borders and the feeling I have is that these people who look after waifs and strays out of their own pocket or through fundraising, love animals enough to take good care of Alfie and find her a loving home. The rescue centre where I got Megan from vetted me before I could bring her home - I think I even needed a reference from my vet if I remember correctly. It's all just too painful so I think the best thing would be just to live until I'm about 110, then hopefully she and I will be ready to pop off together. Good thread though Janet - it is certainly something that needs thought about.
  6. Well spotted Jill!! And Janet, you are clever with your little animations - I can't even get a pic on my sig line! I hope you don't mind, but I've pinched your lol. I thinks it's smashing!
  7. What a happy looking little bird Sheila - he's really enjoying being out in the open air there! What lucky birdies you have to have and indoor and an outdoor apartment!!! Thanks for sharing.
  8. Well I'm def going to watch that Janet - I'll catch up in a jiff - where there's a will there's a way!
  9. I thought it was about time this thread came to the fore again! We had a walk around one of our local beauty spots yesterday and the girls were very obliging!
  10. Ah those are lovely pics - Ki is a real beauty. SHe looks very interested in the camera!! Ayce is a lovely looking dog - do you pronounce it Ace? Smashing photos - thanks for sharing.
  11. I don't know about the leaves - would be interested to hear what you find out though. Crossfit that's interesting about the clay - will have to look into that too!
  12. Thanks for letting us know Kihei's background Logan - it helps to form kind of a mental picture when we are reading stories about her. SHe will be lost at the minute, no doubt about it, but it sounds as if you are making the transition go as smoothly as it possibly can.
  13. Well, Wow.....and that's just about all I have to say about that. Except, do you know how old Chaucer was at this point Dan? This really is a remarkable story whatever his age, I'm just interested. Thanks for sharing this with us Dan, for those of us with young birds who are relatively new to the world of greys, it is just another little glimpse of how ultra remarkable these souls are (as if we ever doubted it!)
  14. What great fun Spock - I'll bet you and Salsa have a great time! Btw - love your cute cute cute avi pic!!
  15. How exciting that must have been for you Logan - a really good, positive experience for you both! You did exactly the right thing putting her back to her own perch before she decided to go there by herself. She'll be all the more keen to come to you the next time! Excellent!
  16. Hi Logan - here is a thread you will find useful if you haven't already come across it - it's a list of toxic foods, and towards the end of the thread, there is also a list of toxic housplants! Very useful info :-) http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?20070-10-things-that-are-poisonous-for-parrots/page4&highlight=poisonous
  17. Hi Logan and Kihei, wlcome to the Forum. You are doing such a wonderful thing by offering a forever home to this older bird. How sad for the man who had to part with her. I'm glad you are reading through previous threads - there is a LOT to learn, and you're having to take it all in at once! Like the toys - you did the right thing taking them out again, but please do persevere with them - toys enrich their lives in so many ways, and you will get great pleasure watching her play with them. It may just take a while for her to accept them. Another important consideration is what to feed her. There are a number of foods which must never be fed to a grey - avocado, chocolate, alchohol to name a few - do a search for toxic foods. I'm really looking forward to hearing how Kihei settles in with you, and perhaps seeing some pics of her? From the sounds of your last posts, it sounds like she is well on the way to making friends with you. Lyn & Alfie x
  18. Well Judy, we're all entitled to our own opinions of course, but I'm more into the hunky carpenter myself - I'll take your word about the gorgeous women though - whatever floats your boat! Lol Janet - that's one I haven't watched either, but I like Buffy and Angel (read Spike) and Vampire Diaries was on my to watch list, but I don't like joining programmes halfway through. Would it be easy enough to join half way through a series?
  19. Lol - now that is a v. funny story! I wonder if the old man will ever figure it out!! Look out if he does!!! Phones ringing in the dead of night? Not so funny (to you - still a hoot to us!!) Our dogs have had their squeaky toys confiscated since we got Alfie - that would just do my head in!!! Thanks for the giggle!!
  20. That's great Janet - she sounds so like you!!! Was she wet in this vid Janet? She has a really dark "v" shape on her chest - it's very distinctive! I love her cargo net too - does she use it? Alfie is still afraid of her atom! Mind, it's only been hanging around for a month! Great vid Janet, thanks for sharing. More please!!
  21. Any news Marion of your baby?
  22. Hi Howardine, it's good to hear from you, hope all is well you and Precious.
  23. All the more reason to try to convince him not to clip. I realised Yoshi was not your bird, I think you've done great to try to raise awareness from your friends lost bird. The fact remains though, that if Yoshi had already been clipped, the story might not have had so happy an ending, she would have still managed to escape (clipped birds can and do still fly off when spooked) but the clipped wings may have meant she couldn't have gotten to the safety of that tall tree you found her in, she might have been hit by a car or eaten by a dog had she not been able to fly to safety. You said that Paul was taking her to be chipped and maybe clipped, so perhaps he will still change his mind. We all look to experience of others when making tough decisions like this!
