Lol Jill - I had to show Alfie how to do it. She picked it up fairly quickly after that.
-
Wow Nerbie!! That's quite a toy you will have there! I have my hands full with one horse at a time - how are going to handle 7?!!
-
We really are Jill - can't be done being cooped up inside - unless it's raining, and then we don't mind too much..... Thanks everyone for the lovely comments. The girls love being adored!! x

I did read somewhere that someone had said they didn't like the fact that you could click your own star - I can't remember who said it, but I did wonder at the time how come they found that out! LOL!!! It's better if you can't. I like the stars and thanks thingamys.

Good Lord! Don't forget the Husband!! I think the REALLY big bathtub is the way to go!
-
Thanks Bernie. Lol- I had help with the barking - chicken!! Thanks Jill - you've hit the nail on the head there - these girls do definitely think they are royalty!! They are working on their regal wave! I think they did Janet - Megan took a little more persuading, but the chicken def helped!

This is so sad. I'm praying they can get it under control. It seems amazing to me that the people responsible for this don't have some sort of contingency plan for when/if something like this happens. I know it's a disaster on a huge scale, but it seems to be taking an awful long time.

These are some smashing stories, but my fave so far has to be Bozo!!! That's almost unbelievable - but knowing what these birds are capable of after living with one for two years - not so much! Thanks for all of these! Great thread Jill!

BEANS!!! I did it with beans!!! Lol Jill - once I knew the animals were ok I found myself thinking the same thing!!! - I think I'd have been too freaked to try the rice again!!! Lol! What presense of mind you had Hannah to get everyone out so quickly, and well done for staying calm too. I keep a duvet cover handy for such evacuations.

You're so lucky Julie - I've never seen one in real life, but would love to ! We've holidayd where I know they are, but no luck! Thanks for this .

Hi, it can be quite difficult finding a treat that your grey is enthusiastic for - Alfie is not food motivated at all (unless she is after a bit of pizza or garlic bread - then she would do back flips for those!) It's really trial and error to see what they like - other nuts to try are walnuts, pecans, almonds - just break a bit off so it doesn't take him long to eat it - raisins or a bit of apple or pear might be taken too. Hope you find something suitable.

Lol Judy - Alfie is a star right enough. I'll have to see if my shoulder would be good enough for her on a bike ride - usually only David's shoulder will do, but I feel he has his hands full!!
-
Lol - so glad Camilla doesn't bear a grudge - sorry for asking, that side of greys is unknown to me. Haha - you must have had your work cut out with that girlfriend!!
-
Anti-aging??! I'm off to order a TONNE!!!! Lol - it's the anti-aging properties - he is regressing!!! Glad he likes them - it's always something else to put on the menu!
-
Nice pics - I like the outside one. He's a cutie.
-
Murphy is a beauty.

Lol Judy - Great minds!!! LOL!!!

Aw Thanks Jay. I've never been test case before - called a head case many times, but never a test case!!! Lol! I do feel though that Talon works quite hard for her thingys. And I have noticed today, that the description for two thingys is the same as the description for three thingys! What's that about!! I did like the old way, that you could see the extra karma instantly, but now I like the fact that you can hit the star and leave a little comment too. Nice.

Thanks Dave. It surely is a joy to watch the babies on the Camillacam, but I can't help but feel for her also, when you take her babies away - on Mothers Day too!!! I know she probably gets over it fairly quickly, but the vicious biting has to indicate that the initial seperation is quite stressful on her, is it? I'm afraid I tend to humanize things - I realise animals don't always feel the same way we do - I'm just a total sap when it comes to babies leaving their Mummies!!!! Anyway - appreciate the webcam and all the updates - just interested to know the ins and outs!

Could the bridge word be replaced with a click? I would like to start clicker training with Alfie and this sounds like a similar process that is involved with clicker training. Thanks Ranaz. Interesting post. Did you find it worked?

Ooh Dayo and Emma are up a tree.......!!!!!

Last summer, we spent most sundays out on the bikes, taking the dogs somewhere for a good old walk. Megan is 11yo this year and we feel her days of long bike rides are numbered. Here is a short clip of our outing this afternoon. I think the girls quite enjoyed themselves! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCyMe3Aupfk Alfie has had a couple of short outings with the bikes too, so she may feature in the next biking video! XX

Lol - I've heard a similar story to this before. I've also read about police answering a 999 call only to find the parrot is the only one home, and having gotten out of his cage, started playing with the phone!! Good story Jill - thanks for sharing.

Lol - there were no replies when I first read this - everyone has come to your aid at once!!

Wow Hattan! Many questions!! It is good you want to know all these answers! I will try to help. 1)Aoodi is still young enough to make friends with you and trust you. To do that, you MUST NOT push him to do things he does not want to do, like step up, or let you scratch him. He will come to you when he feels safe to do so. 2)All parrots I know like better to be out of their cage, but for their own safety, there are times when they must go into the cage, so make it fun and pleasant for him to do so, by putting nice toys in there, and a favourite food treat. 3)I don't know about this. My parrot is out of her cage alot, but she does care for us, although she can sometimes behave like a child who wants to be the boss! 4)Aoodi should always have fresh food and water available to her. You can leave her pellets for her at all times. Fresh fruit and vegetables should be offered every day, but taken away again before it goes off/bad. To reward Aoodi when you are training him, use a treat that is his favourite. 5)When you get him new toys, you must give him plenty time to get used to them. Greys can be very fearfull of new objects. Let new toys lie around where he can see them for a few days (or longer if neccesary) before you put them in his cage. 6)I think the cage would be best in the room where there is more going on, which is probably the living room. Parrots like to be involved with the family and what is going on. 7)When he is ready to step up to you, use his favourite treat to lure him on to your hand. be sure to keep the hand you asking him to step on to, very steady, so he feels it is a safe place to be. Put this hand very close to him, just in front of and above his feet and say "step up". He will most likely "test" it with his beak first, so do not be alarmed - he is not trying to bite you - parrots use their beak like a hand. When he does step up, praise him immediatley. 8)Most greys do not like baths. Take him into the shower with you, let him sit up on the rail and the steam will give him moisture. Some members use a spray bottlel with the nozzle set to a fine mist - he may mind this less, but the steam from your shower is less invasive for him at this point and may be the way to go. 9)The only person who can tell you the best treat to give to Aoodi, is Aoodi!! Among a list of treats to try are pine nuts, sunflower seed (better used as a treat than a main diet) raisins, almonds, walnuts and so on. Just try a few different things and see what he likes! 10)A spray daily with water is ok, every other day is fine. 100% Aloe Vera Juice is good to spray them with too. I hope this helps a litte Hattan. Do not be afraid to ask as many questions as you like!! We are all here to help, and are more than happy to!
