I do not feel that there is a black or white answer to your questions you are asking - I think that each circumstance would be different and should be handled that way. I would not try to define a good or bad breeder on the merits of these questions. Carolyn & Mika

There may be miles and miles keeping us apart, but we are one in our thoughts, and in our hearts. We all love our birds. We have all been brought together on this site for that reason, and along with our birds we are able to form friendships, become family and have fun. And no matter who you are or where you live or how you live, we all have that one thing in common "picking up bird poop" And we love it. Have a great day Carolyn & Mika

Post edited by: Carolyn, at: 2008/11/28 18:02

I cannot find any information on Reed Difussers as they are still very new to the market, but close up they have a very strong fragrance and the reeds sticking up out of them might be very inviting to a bird to go over and check them out and begin chewing on them. Until more information is available on these products I don't think it might be worth the risk just yet. Carolyn & Mika

HELP... need gift ideas 4 new grey owner
Carolyn replied to sgtslaughter's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
As Erika just said any information about the Grey would be helpful, but if you don't no to much about it you could make a gift basket of birds treats and toys. Go to your local pet store and make sure everything you get is marked for an African Grey, also a gift certificate from a local pet store would be welcome. If you want something a little different go to the local Home depot or Hardware stoe and get them a new "Dustbuster" because they will need it because the cleaning is just starting:laugh: . And they will appreciate it. Just a few suggestions Carolyn & Mika -
I cheat, when I am doing my housework upstairs I put Mika and his pomagrante in the bathtub, he sits in there very happy with his treat and very busy while I continue with the much needed cleaning. When he's finished I lift him out and just wash down the bathtub lol. It makes life a lot easier and him very happy lol Carolyn & Mika

looking for help plus I am a newbie here
Carolyn replied to SilverStarr's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
I am by no means an expert at this, and never had a problem with Mika plucking but it was recommended by my vet on his first wellness check not to play the bird cd's over and over for him when we were at work just music cd's or tv. I now leave the radio on a timer for 2 hours and it goes of, and the tv with a timer on it goes on in about another 2 hours, so in between there is a break and quiet. Also you mentioned Freckles, do you no if he goes and visits the cage when you are out, this may scare the bird and Star may feel threatened by the dog. I only mentioned this because with our Doberman we put chairs in front of the cage for the first couple of weeks so as the dog could not get close, they could see each other but not to close up. After that we started to remove the chairs when the dog got used to the cage and bird being there. There are many people out there that can offer you advise on plucking as they have gone through it, and I am sure they will. Hope every thing works out well for both of you. Carolyn & Mika -
Congradulations on a job well done, you have come a long way and I am so happy that things are working out for the both of you. Keep up the great work:woohoo: Carolyn & Mika

Great work, I no the feeling that it will never happen, they will never get along. And one dsy here just fine. I had that same feeling with he cat and the dog and one day they became a family. It is not the cat or dog in this house we have to supervise it is Mika he is the little  going after them and throwing things at them to get there attention:laugh: . But it is one happy family now crazy but happy. Carolyn & Mika

I will contact all I no in Ontario Canada, please If the head offices of the major Pet Stores are in the US SEND then a copy of this and ask them to distribute to all there stores so a store will watch out for any one trying to sell them. Also if everyone watches there local newspaper for adds "Birds For Sale" you may want to keep the add and phone and ask a few questions, if it does not feel right pass the information along to the right people. Have the police contact the border crossing between US & Canada to be aware if any people are attempting to cross the border with birds. Carolyn & Mika

As most of us are living in the US & Canada, I think I shall take it upon myself to locate an Ark big enough to pick up all that want to go, with birds included. Oh by the way does anyone no how long it takes for an Ark to travel to the UK? Just to give the hostess a time line on our arrival:laugh: Carolyn & Mika

This is the link to The Parrots Enrichment Activity Books Version 1&2, these can be printed and used for reference and ideas for all bird toys. They really have some great ideas. companionfids.com/enrichment/activitybooks.htm just copy and paste address. I have used some of the ideas in these books and just added my own imagination from there. Hope you find this interesting and fun:woohoo: Carolyn & Mika

Great job Erika, Tigger looks like he loves it.:woohoo: Come on crafty lady you can come up with a few more:laugh: Carolyn & Mika

Dave is so right Tracie, we got Mika at 3 months and all he wanted was to snuggle and be held, played by him self a little but the main thing was being very close to me. Now at 8 months:evil: he is happier spending a lot of time on his play gym and stand ripping, tearing, throwing and destroying every toy that he considers his and some things that are not but within his reach. He still in the evening just before bed loves his snuggles then a bedtime story and off to bed. But my little boy is growing up and so will Tucker, so enjoy it while you can;) Carolyn & Mika
