Mika started out with only 3-5 min training, we are now at 30 min but this was after almost 4 months. I change the treat almost ever day so he has no idea what it's going to be. Mika is on a no seed diet, so shelled sunflower seeds or punkin seeds are a real treat to him, and only offered one at a time. If he does get bored with what were doing, I stop on a positive note-reward- and go back to it a few hours later. Carolyn & Mika

Wow you are doing just great - My vet is very firm on a NO seed diet and pellets being 75% of his daily intake so Mika has seeds only as his treat for training and those are unsheeled sunflower and punkin seeds. He does have fresh veg and fruit, (hard) cheese twice a week and 2 eggs a week. Pellets are available to him at all times in his cage. He eats baby pablum or oatmeal mixed with a little baby food applesauce or any other babyfood fruit for breakfast morning, and a half piece of 12 grain toast. He is a bit of a Pasta junkie and does love it with a tomatoe sauce. He also eats small amounts of chicken and turkey, I dont feed any red meat. He loves sweet potaoe. If I run short of fresh veg or fruit I always keep a couple of jars of baby food available for him just in case. Carolyn & Mika

As soom will tell you the honeymmon is over and Charlie is staring to come into his own, he is going to start trying you if for no other reason to see how far he can get and by the sound of it he is getting his way. As the holidays are coming to a close and maybe the house will be a little quieter with not so many people around, you will be able to spend more one on one time with him. By limiting the people that pick him up, or at least try to pick him up is good. Let him get used to his immediate family more and spend more family time with him. As for Travis, you are the five star General of that house and just make sure he no's that.:woohoo: Things will start to turn around for you, if you just give it time. Carolyn & Mika

In going back, I am thinking that Charlie would be approx. 5-6 months old now (please correct me if I am wrong)to expect a bird to be able to handle a sudden family of 20+ people and the excitment of the season we are in, is just to much. And he is showing you the only way he can by biting. If the game "Hot Potatoe" is the game I am thinking of is being played then I do not think you would find ANY grey old or young that would enjoy it. Again he is showing you his displeasure, please listen to him. There are many threads in this forum that maybe your son should read through in regards to training - you can never DEMAND obedience. That has to be taught with love, time and patience and the tools to teach. Charlie is telling you this the only way he no's how, please sit back and listen. Carolyn

I will be calling the vet on Monday to have Mika's removed as well;) not that it bothers him, but I like you am afraid of him getting it caught. As far as ID he is chipped so no worries there. Carolyn & Mika

Very well said Penny, I hate over the last week people have been using Karma as a punishment for things that they don't agree with or in some cases don't no the whole story about. If you don't agree with a post speak up say you don't agree and write why you don't agree, at most of our ages now its called open communication. Talking it out in a healthy, respectful way helps all understand that there might just be another way of looking at things. If you feel you cant or dont want to do this PM the person and talk, but with this in mind the person you PM should have the respect to respond back to you. There is just one more thing I would like to touch on and this is a personel note. I was asked to become a friend to a person here and I am always thrilled when I get a friendship request, then for no reason known to me they took it away I pm'ed that person, and they felt I guess that they didn't need to respond or explain why so they chose to just ignore my question of what I may have done to upset them.I found this hurtful. We are family here, and nobody better then me understands that family do not have to get along nor agree with everything. But out of respect you have to understand for what ever reason they did what they did, they did it for a reason that was right for them at the time. While we have many topics in this forum that appear to be toxic to others, they will come up time and time again. If you feel that strongly sit back, take a breath, then respond keeping in mind they had a reason for doing whatever it was and maybe for them at the time it was a right decision. My thoughts only, Carolyn & Mika;)

What a great stand, karma to you and a box of bandages:laugh: Carolyn & Mika

The above is a great list on toxic materials, in regards to toy making and playstand making you must consider the following: The glue used to make play stands - The only one that falls under safe glue is white glue that is used in schools for childrens projects Elmers White Glue is non toxic. It does take longer to dry but is safe, and can be used with pvc pipe. The string that we use - white cotton butcher string, hemp are the best but we must be careful that the bird cant get caught up in it. Bells, these are not toxic but can be dangerous if they are not specfic for birds, just finding a bell and giving it to the birds can be dangerous, a bell that is for a budgie is not fit for a grey because a hook beak can get caught in the bell. If you are making wooden toys, please be aware of what you are using for coloring, paints are toxic you must use natural products like food coloring. Chains that are used to hang toys can be a makeup of different metals, so beware. If you want a cheap chain buy dog choke collars they come in every size and are stainless steel. These are just a few ideas, Carolyn & Mika

You seem to have made a break through - congradulations, but as Casper said please, please don't let her on your shoulder yet a bite on the hand or arm in one thing but your face, eyes and ears have to be protected at all times. Keep up the great workB) Carolyn & Mika

This shows the progression of two signs out side 2 churches in Canada - Our Lady of Martyrs Catholic Church and the Beulah Cumberland Presbyterian, these churches were accross the road from one another, this is one of the funnist sign wars I have seen: First up - Catholic Church posted "All birds go to heaven" Presbyterian Church countered - "Only humans go to heaven" Catholic church came back with - "God loves all his creatures, birds included" Not impressed, Presbyterian church shot back - "Birds do not have souls - this is not open for debate" Undeterred, Catholic church responded with - "Catholic birds go to heaven, Presbyterian birds, can talk to there pastor" Back came the Presbyterian church with - "Converting to Catholicism does not magically grant your bird a soul" Catholic church responded - "Free bird souls with conversion" Ok now the Presbyterian Church is getting really steamed - "Birds are animals - there arn't any rocks in Heaven either!" But the Catholic church would end the war of the signs with this final thrust: - "All rocks go to Heaven" I don't know about you but this was one Holy War I could get on board with:laugh: Carolyn & Mika
