    Chilli arrives

Hi John, Cogratulations on your new baby. I have a Chilli too but it's a dog, a dachshund. I named him Chilli because he's red like a chilli pepper, it was cold (chilly) when we got him, and he's a weiner dog or a little Chilli dog! Plus, it was the only name that me and my boyfriend agreed on. So, it stuck. I think it's a great name for a little grey baby girl too. Hope you have fun with her.
  2. Beautiful. I always imagined orchids would be hard to take care of, so I never tried it. Have my hands full with birds, dogs, myself and an overgrown boy of a boyfriend. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us.
  3. Hee hee I think I have an unfinished bottle of Jack at the house- it's more than enough for me to find some much needed inner peace- anyone else game? That's a good one Dave and it gave me a good laugh.
  4. Nice library you've got there, but you don't list one of my favorite books on greys, "For the Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker. You've got to check this one out!
  5. It is quite a blessing to have you on this forum with us. We are happy to have you here to share the love of greys.
  6. I'm so glad you shared your story with us. You are truly a talented writer and you kept me so enthralled I had to read to the very end. I'm glad you gave your Ruby such a good home and love her unconditionally. Thank you for sharing a bit of your life with all of us.

  8. Hi Marti and Mac- your house sounds like mine, full of feathers, fur and love! I also have a dachshund and I just love him! Welcome to the forum.
  9. Hi Steve and Misty- welcome to the forum.
  10. Lyric's hatchday just happens to be two days before my birthday- so it's easy for me to remember. Last August when he turned one I made him pasta for his dinner, and gave him a new toy. So, yes, we celebrate and I think that's a great thing to do. Even if the bird doesn't understand the significance of the day, they still like to be the center of attention and have a little extra spoiling on their special day!
  11. She's a beauty Tiff. I especially like the fifth and seventh photo, those are really great.
  12. That really is a great picture. What a pretty bird you have! I love digital cameras, they are great for animal pictures because it always takes so many tries to get a good one! I get lots of pictures of my dog's butt and tail- he always moves right after I snap and my camera is older and slow to take the photo.
  13. Very cool picture Mark, thanks for sharing!

    cooking

Yes, you must be very careful. Birds are very sensitive to any kind of smoke, smells and fumes. Even burning candles and air fresheners are bad for them. You should move your bird to another room if you are cooking and it will get smoky.
  15. We do not cover Lyric's cage and he stays pretty quiet in the morning until he sees that someone is up. During the week that is around 7:00am and on the weekend it varies depending on how late we stay up and what's going on.
  16. Just newspaper here too. Hey, it's kind of like recycling right?
  17. We're all happy to hear that everything is going so well now, and you and little Bobby can breathe a big sigh of relief and get back to life as normal.
  18. Yes, this is just one of the ways that greys like to play- just be happy it is the toy getting the reaction and not your hand!
  19. Hi Madisimmons- Don't worry about your rambling, sounds like you have lots of questions, well-founded and need some good advice. You are right to be wary and question the intentions of the pet store owner. I don't think $600 sounds bad for an adoption fee for the bird but that is if she is in good health. I would definitely take her to a vet right off after you get her. I would think the store would give some kind of guarantee but I guess it really depends on what the stores policies are. It sounds like you were able to handle her with no problems and this is definitely a good step in the right direction. She has been through a lot in the last few months and will need some time to adjust to all the changes. She is probably mourning the loss of her previous owner and wonders what is happening in her life. Not all greys talk and not all talk a lot. Mine is more vocal when happy and relaxed- I'm sure she will warm up to you if you decide to give her a good home. Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the missing tail feathers, they can be easily broken off if the bird gets scared and thrashes around in their cage. Best of luck in your decision!
  20. Welcome Homersmom. Homer looks like a beautiful bird. We all just love birds here on this site and have lots of fun telling stories about them. Hope you enjoy yourself here too.
