I give Tyco dry kisses on the top of his beak Its the only place on her entire body that she will let me touch I also can touch her beak with my finger a giveit a little rub but those are the only two kinds of affection she will allow and I have to be very careful with the fingers because shes very afraid of hands so if I want to touch her beak I have to tell her in advance that I'm going to touch her beak then she lets me most of the time. i

Thank the Lord you were home when that happened or she may have chewed her wing off trying to free herself. I swear these birds are worse then kids sometime with some of the perdicaments they get themselves into. I'm so glad shes okay and that all is well with her world again

She does that when she plays with all her toys she attacks to kill I think its funny that she plays so rough her toys don't last very long thats for sure if they're kill able she kills them LOL

I have a baby wf cockateil that thinks he's an african grey he's even learn allot of vocalizations from Tyco. He didn't fledge until he was about 6 months old it was funny he would try so hard to fly but could only fly backwards finally he learned to fly I had to let hinm build up strength and let him keep his wings for awhile and boy trying to keep that little guy from going over to Tycos cage to be with her was murder I had to watch him like a hawk. Finally after a month of being an expert flyer I had enough and cliped his wings. There was no way I was going to I was going to spend anymore time running over to Tyco cage to save that silly birds life. So now he's the only one I've got that can't fly even a little I clipped my Conures wings and he still flys everywhere he's such a strong flyer and I only cut 4 flights you wouldn't think I even did him he flys so well It did slow him down for a couple of days and that was enough to put him back in his place. He's another one of my birds that thinks he's the biggest bird in the house and can take on anything he already lost his beak once because Tyco bit it off and that was when he was in his cage mouthing off and making Tyco mad his Beak has grown back enough that he can finally eat on his own it took six months for that and he still a little brat

I have 5 birds and only 1 has a leg band and I hate it she's always picking at it and she9 years old and the only reason I haven't had it taken off is that she is a Fiery Shouldered Conure which are quite rare as far as avian pets go. One day if they ever come out with a micro chip that has a GPS in it for birds I'll have her band removed and have all my birds chiped with a GPS then we will all have a chance of actually getting our birds back if they get lost because then we will be able to track them. My Vet says its not to far off when that will be an option it will probubly be expesive but who cares when it comes to my birds money isn't an opyion.

Wow Pretty bird I just love to see them in full flight. I don't think Tyco knows she can fly. She barbered her left flight feather so badly and for at least 2 years before i got her and mabie longer. Now that I had her clipped properly so that wing wasn't irratating her anymore she has let her flight feathers grow back in and can fly. But I don't think she knows she can. I haven't got a clue on how to make her understand that she won't fall like a rock anymore If she trys to fly I guess she;s got to find out for herself

I made Tyco and my other birds a new playstand and swing Tyco cannot keep her eyes off of it I know she wants to go check it out but she is just a wee bit nervous. I put the little birds on the swing and boy did Tyco get upset. she was trying as hard as she could to reach those little guys without actually going over and getting on the swing with them I put the new play stand underneith the swing so that the birds can get on the swing from the playstand. I know its not going to be long before Tyco trys it out she is sitting on he cage door and when its open she is only about a foot away from the swing. I can't wait for her to get on it and try it out. Any way heres some piics of my handy work. http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee90/fergies_mom/HPIM1168-1.jpg[/img]

Post edited by: Tycos_mom, at: 2008/06/04 03:05

I gave Tyco and Fergie a empty paper towel roll each will a peanut 2walnuts and a few pine nuts in them and I folded the ends shut. Ive never seen birds get so excited about somthing Tyco attacked that thing with a vengece wings open smashing it against her cage and ripping it open Iwas laughing so hard they are so funny after they manage to finally get into it they sat very quietly and ate every nut in their little package usually if I give them nuts in their dish they eat them through out the day but today because I put them in a paper towel roll instead they ate all of them imediatly I wonder if they taste better that way silly birds LOL

MY Tyco is a escape artist I love her cage as it locks with a pin that is on the top of her cage where sh can't get at and the food doors ar also escape proof who ever designed her cage did it with escapeing birds in mind I've never seen another cage like it. The cage is trully escape proof. -
I'm sorry you had to cancel but you know what I would have done the same thing. No one would do what I do for my birds. They are used to being out from 8am when I open their cages until 8pm when I put them to bed. I work three nights a week. from 5pm til 11pm so the most they ever have to be in their cages is 3 hours. I couldn't even imagine what it would be like for them to be locked in there cages for a week or two. They are all rescues and came to me in bad shape. They have been cage bound for to many years of their lives all ready I could never put them back into that situation even for a day. I would be too afaid they would feel like I left them and the're back where they were before I got them. they would all have to come with me. or I;ll just stay home. I don't need to go away. if it means that my babys will be unhappy. They are everything to me so I know how you feel about Charlie os bird people must have bird brains I think sometimesLOL

Nice pics beautiful bird I love her silver coloring Tyco is so dark Mabie once I get Tyco to where she trust me to be able to touch her I might get a baby Grey and try my hand a raising one I will look around for a silver one I just love that color for them. Theres a silver one at pet smart right now just the sweetest baby youve ever seen but I think she going to be a plucker look to me like shes already started she is about 6 months old I'd say because her eyes are grey and not black anymore they want way to much for her also. I'll look for one at the breeders instead.

I want to build my birds a PVC Playstand they are getting a bit bored with their play stand and play tree an so I thought I'd build them something new. and big. I just don't know what size Pvc to buy and how many pipes Iwill need to build somthing fairly large. I want it to be a floor model with enough to mabie build a swing from the ceiling that they can reach from the play stand just so you can kind of get the Idea of the size.

I cheat a little when it comes to giveing her her meds she love to be hand fed with a shringe (can you imagine 11 yr old amazon eating from a shring) talk about spoilt rotten anyway I started giving her Sprouts left over when he got his beak bit off so now I just add a bit of hand feeding formula to her meds and she sucks them back like no tomorrow LOL

In need of help and advise for my Fluffy
Tycos_mom replied to loveoneanother's topic in The GREY Lounge
Tyco had the same problem only worse because she was barbering one side. the Person I got her from said shes always been like that she didn't even know Tyco was barbering thought her wing was damage some how when she was young. Tyco was so off balance she would fall hard on her Keel I took her to the vet and got her wings clipped to match. and now for the firsy time in who knows how many years Tyco has all her flight feathers on both wings. You should babie take her to the vet and see if something is iritating her on that one side Before she does what Tyco did. -
Tyco is a closet talker but she tends to forget that I'm in the room sometime and starts talking to her toys while beating the crap out of them like I wasn't there LOLshe and then all of a sudden she'll remember and look over at me. she stops everything like the whole world is going to end because she was talking and I was there to hear her. What a funny bird she is I laugh so hard.
-
it would proubly be better to board him at your vets office that way he will have out of the cage time and be talked to and you know he would get the best of care but if your neighbour is will ing to mabie sit with him or even turn the tv on in the morning on the childrens learning channel and then turn it off at night before bed then at least your bird will have company just tell her to turn the volume on low so he's able to nap if he wants to he'll be fine and of course he will be mad at you but birds are forgiving and he will forgive you within a hour or two

My birds have been socialized t the point that as long as I'm there and I explain exactly how and what to say to the birds they can pet them. Except for Tyco of course she's way to new to have anyone do anything except admire her from a distance. But my other birds will generally let people give them a scritch if I say its okay and they ask the bird the bird will usually put their heads down for a scritch or a pet. Fergie hates all men so of course she only lets women touch her but my other birds will take a scritch or step up for just about anyone as long as I tell the bird its ok. I do make sure that every one washes their hand first before touching my birds I don't want them to get sick

Do you have a husband or child that your bird recognises as a flock member. if so in frount of the bird get you child husband to do what is soposed to be done when he/she gets it right give them lots a praise and a treat tell them to get it wrong once in awhile and and say no thats to bad no treat this time and then try with the bird do this back and forth between the bird and other flock member just make sure that you praise the flock member big time when they get it right and not at all when they get it wrong you will see in no time at all your bird will be getting it right everytime while the flock member is still getting it wrong at least half the time. birds learn by watching other flock members when they are young so this is a great way to teach them something new

I know it takes time love and Patiats for all neglected and abused bird. I just love Tyco soooo much and I want to be able to give her head scritches and pets and she just has such a fear of hands. She watches me everyday cuddle up to Fergie my Amazon and I know she wants that also I can tell by how intencly she watches. Something really bad must of happened in her past. because she takes my word for it usually If I tell her that its ok and its not going to hurt her I say its a speciel thing just for Tyco. she good with that. she's not afraid of anything except cameras and hands. She has wonderful confidence she not afraid of toys or new cages or anything her confidence since she's been with me has risen to great hieghts but there are those 2 things that she can't seem to get past. I guess its just going to take more love more patients and more time. and I have lots of that.
