Hubby works at a hardware store and we found a bug sprayer that is the same exact thing but a little bigger and it was only $8. I will try to mist her while she's in her cage that way she can't realy get away  But if she seems terrified or growls I will take time and do it a little every day until she realizes it won't hurt her. Thanks girls!!
-
Ok so it's not like she will def start to pick out feathers if she doesn't get one right away. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a have to kind of thing or something that EVERYONE did.

Sweetheart won't allow me to spritz her or take her to the counter and give her a bowl to splash in or let me sprinkle her with the kitchen hose. Any ideas? Than again she is still getting used to us. How long can I let her go without a bath? I don't want her to get dry skin. The breeder was able to do all of this with her. Should I just give it time till she gets used to us or me? And just want to make sure she isn't in any danger from not bathing. Well I know over a long period of time, but will this be ok? The breeder also said she would get in her water dish in her cage and take a bath and she hasn't done that either but I do have the deep bowls so not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. I don't know what she had before. Any info would help. Thanks!!

WOW DAVE I have never seen your writings like that but I am still new lol. I laughed and cried lol. I can't wait till mine is like that! Anyway on the bags I agree with Hannah they are for baking and they aren't non stick. I came home one day thank god I still had a house and my animals but the cat had jumped up on the stove which then lead to the ignitor sitting there clicking waiting to be lit by the gas, there was a non-stick skillet sitting on that burner. I think the only thing that saved it from going up into flames was we left a lid on the skillet filled with bacon grease. I walked into a smoked filled house with all smoke alarms going off and opened ever window in the house and in the middle of winter got all fans out of storage and put in windows. It was amazing it didn't kill our Quaker parrot and all dogs and cats! After all the stories I have heard on hear I am very very lucky. Now there is nothing ever left on the stove and we take all knobs off of stove before we leave every day now just to be safe. So I guess in a way it's probably better to be safe than sorry but they do say that it has to get to a temp of 500 degrees before it releases bad toxins in the air. And again that is with non stick and don't think the bags are non stick at least the ones my mother-in-law uses. She has half the turkey stuck to the bag. We aren't doing turkey this year for the first time. We decided to do filet mignon & crab legs. Only because they were on sale :woohoo: And it's just the four of us this year, we will be going to family house for desserts lol.

Cool I voted! That was the first vote I have done lol Are you proud of me lol. SweetHeart just turned 7 months old a few days ago and lastnight for the first time since we got her (3 weeks ago) she started mumbling all these could be words. I was excited!

Hello Coolnana and welcome to the forum! We had that same problem with another parrot we have when we first got her. She was on a bad seed diet and that's all. We got her zupreem pellets. She took right to them. We are now switching our TAG over right now to the same thing. Along with fruits and veggies of course and some country cookin lol. But they are colorful and birds seem to love their colors. Mine will actually pick out certain ones and leave the others for the garbage. But they actually smell really good. I was told by the breeder and by a bunch of forums I have read over the last 9 years that it is a good pellet to give. There are others out there and I'm sure the others on the board will be by to give you their great advice. This was just our personal experience and what has and actually still is working for us right now. Hope that helped some!

Hi Jamie and welcome! I just had my TAG shipped from TX to WV. Long story lol. But anyway the breeder shipped SweetHeart in a pet carrier just like you would use for a cat or small dog. Pet Taxi's I think they are called. She had a perch going across the width of the carrier so she could stand on that while being transfered. It worked really well. Being my poor baby went from TX to IL to SC to IL and than finally to WV! But it would be great for going on trips with you and to go to the vet in. Hope that helped some.

During the week M-Th. SweetHeart is in her cage all day until we get home at 6 pm and than out till 10pm or so. The days we are home and off from work she is out from the time we get up till the time we go to bed which is usually 9 or 10 am and than until 11 pm or later. Unless she wants to go to bed. We leave her cage door open in case she wants back in sooner. She has a play top on her cage and right now that's pretty much where she stays being we have only had her 2 weeks. She's still getting used to us.

I can't even imagine Joe. We are soo sorry for your loss. Maybe he's just taking a little adventure and than will come back to his loving home. He'll realize maybe how good he had it. Best of Luck to you. We really hope you find him!

Thank you Everyone! I hope she keeps doing baby steps lol. Gives me something to look forward to. Lastnight after I put her in her cage she was very playful and running around and seemed to do it more when I laughed at her and asked her what was the silly bird doing lol. But thought I would give some good news for a change. Keep your fingers crossed for me lol:P

Well had to share with all of you because you know how hard it has been for me this past two weeks. Now this isn't a huge deal but it made me very happy!:woohoo: I was talking to SweetHeart for about 1/2 hour and she seemed very interested. There is a table in between her cage and where I sit when I'm home and like I had said she comes to the corner where I'm at and sleeps and plays. Well after our little conversation about 5 minutes later she hopped on top of the lamp that sits on my table. She was a little nervous, when I went to get her off the wobbly lamp shade she flew over to the couch. And than I got her and was going to try to talk to her for a minute on my hand but her body and head were pointed towards her cage and I didn't want to force anything so I put her back. But I was happy that on her own she came a little closer!!! Just thought I would share with all of you! Something good for a change lol. Oh and I will try to add a pic to kind of show you all how we are, you can see the lamp shade in the corner and how close her cage is to my chair.

Very cool! And welcome! Hope you have good progress with your little guy!
-
Cool! Thanks guys I will give the dimly lit room a try. Yes it is cute that she sits right where she can see me. I have noticed she only does this when everyone is here. Like right now with just her and I are here cause I'm home sick today she is sitting on the other side and will come down but she seems to be comfortable anywhere right now. Well on her cage that is. But hopefully that is a sign that when everyone is home she sees me as someone she can trust and that's why she hangs out by my corner :cheer: lol Wishful thinking but it gets me through this rough time with her lol.

Ok guess I gave the wrong impression. I leave the door open for her to go in and out as she pleases BUT when I take her out for the first time in the morning or in the evening if I have to work she steps up on my hand to come out. I don't just let her go out on her own. And the same for when she goes back inside, it is she must step up to go back in when I need her to. I was saying I leave the door open because when I'm off I take her out when I get up and than I don't put her back in till I go to bed so I wanted to leave her the option to go back in if she wanted to and the only reason she goes back in once in a great great while is to eat her pellets and than she comes right back out. She doesn't growl at me until I tell her to step up. I can walk up to her cage without her growling. Unless I have a towel on my head lol I found that one out yesterday. When she occasionally flies off of her cage/playstand she doesn't ever growl at me for getting her. only in the morning or evening again depends if I have to work that day and than again when I put her back. So her only exit from the cage when I open it is my hand. Just when I am here all day and leave her out she is out for more than 12 hours so I wanted to leave the option of her going back in for her pellets or to sleep if she wanted to but she only does for her pellets. When she sleeps she comes to my corner and sleeps where she can see me with one foot up. Hope I cleared that up. I have read lol I know that I am the boss lol I should make her step up. What I'm asking is what do I do about the growling. But I do think I will try to hardly lit room and see what happens. Just wanted to clear that one up so you don't think she has the upper hand. I just don't want her to have the upper hand that's why I'm asking lol. So far I still have it lol
-
Ok Dan lol you said to post some more questions more often, you asked for it lol. SweetHeart has started to growl at me. I can go up to her on top of her cage where her playstand is and talk to her, as long as I don't get to close she won't try to fly away. Sometimes she will growl but mostly when I tell her to step up to have her go to bed or come out of her cage. She hasn't bitten me yet thank god! I have tried to show her even though she is growling that I'm going to have her step up when I need her to. Is this just because she's still getting used to all of us? Should I make her step up like I'm doing even though she is growling? Because really if I don't I don't know how I would get her in her cage at night. Of course she will come out on her own in the morning but doesn't really go in at all. I leave the cage door open for the option. She rarely does go in on her own. Just wanting to know if the growling is an ok thing at this point? I'm the only one who really does anything with her because I'm trying to get her trust. The kids and hubby go up to the cage and talk to her but don't handle her yet. Well we all know from my previous posts that no one can handle her yet. But it's only been 2 weeks. Any info would help. Just want to do the right thing
-
Thanks Loviechick. I will continue to just hang out next to her cage in my chair. Just can't wait for her to come around. And your probably right with all the other animals and stuff she has to get used to. Thought that the way the breeder did would've helped on that but guess not. The breeder had dogs and tons of other birds in the house that all had free roam. So thought she would be a little used to chaos lol.
-
Thank you I will give that a try, we have dogs as well but I put them away in the evening when I put her on the floor. But haven't tried to couch. I have tried the chair and like you said maybe it's an invasion of her space. I will surely give it a try. Right now If someone told me to stand on my head in the corner and that would work I would be willing to do it lol. Thank you!

Thanks Christina but again I guess this is where our confusion is. WE DO leave her in with us 24 hours a day. We don't have a bird room, we don't have any other room she can go in. She is next to me the entire time and she does stay on her cage. The play top is on her cage. So this is where we have hit a brick wall. I have followed everything because I was on here for months before we got her and read and read and read on what we should do. She is clipped, she is in the same room, everyone goes up to her cage and talks to her, her door is left open to go in and out freely, I give her treats, she has plenty of toys. Can you see now why I'm lost? We have done everything and thought that after 2 weeks I would at least be able to hold her or set her on the chair with me but she won't. But than again I know patience is the key. After everything she went through getting here I'm sure she will come around but just wanted to see if there was anything I WASN'T doing lol. She had free flight at the breeders and was aloud to go anywhere she wanted, this is one problem I believe. But the flying off the cage has really gone down so I'm not too worried about that anymore. Just about what I should do to get her to trust me, if I'm already doing it and should I keep what I'm doing up? But want to thank everyone, I just seem to be hitting brick walls lately. It seems like I have followed everyone's advice, guess it will just take more time than 2 weeks to show anything towards us.
-
Thanks Dan but I have followed everything I have read so far as keeping her right next to me. Her play stand is on the top of her cage and the only thing seperating us is a small coffee table than it's my chair I always sit it. She can see me very well from where she is at. She does come the my corner and sit there and stretch and fall asleep on one foot. I talk to her all the time. There is I would say only about 3 feet between her and I when she is either in her cage or on top of her cage using the play gym. We don't have a bird room where she is not with the family. We only have one living room and that's where she is where everything goes on. I have been writing every week to give updates but than again I have only had her for two weeks and if you remember this is the bird that had the flight from hell lol. So I have posted lol. Just didn't know what to really ask. She seems to be progressing a little just wish I could hold her. And for her to stay there. The breeder said she has never clipped more than 5 feathers off of her Greys. And no you can't see the feathers at all when her wing is down and against her body. So see she is just a stubborn bird isn't she lol. Oh and Congrats to you Dan on moderator!
-
Again her wings are clipped. Do I clip more? She already has 5 feathers off of each wing. The breeder said I could go 2 more on each side just to follow her lines that she did, but the thing is too is that the breeder just had her on the counter and SweetHeart would let her trim her wing with no problem of course I can't do this. So any suggestions?
-
She is just determined to fly lol She has 5 count them 5 lol feathers off of each wing!!! And still flies! She can't gain much altitude but some. She hates counters hates tables hates about everything lol. So I am trying my best to be patient it's just hard when you can't handle her at all. Well just long enough to take her in and out of her cage. I know it can be a long road of being patient just wish it would happen sooner than later

Ok this is the end of week 2 with SweetHeart. There really hasn't been much improvement. She is eating a little better I guess that's an improvement. She finally started taking some things from my hand. But she still won't let me hold her at all. She flies off her stand very little now. No where near as often as she did. It's only about once or twice a day now. She growls at me when I take her out of the cage when I get home from work and heads straight to her seed bowl. She lets me come close to the cage and talk to her but there are more times than not that she will run. I don't force her to step up at all, she does it every time I ask, and I only ask when she flies off or when I am getting her out of the cage to put on her play stand. Even though she growls I make her do it anyway I'm figuring just like our quaker that you kind of have to show them your the boss. Like I said I don't do it very often cause I'm still trying to gain her trust. She won't sit with me at all. She flies right back to her cage. I have tried the picnic thing with her every evening, with the kids on the floor as well and she just runs for her cage or tries to get up on the furniture to get some height so she can fly back to her cage. Or climb up you to get some height but that's all the attention she let you give her. When she uses me to get some height to go back to her cage I sneak in some scratches to the neck and petting on her back and she doesn't growl but doesn't stay for any of it either. So that's really the update I have. Wish there could be more good things. But I do have some questions if you don't care. 1. When I put her on the blanket on the floor with some of her toys and she flies back to her cage after not even being down there for a minute with us should I put her back down there with us? Or just let her be? 2. In the evenings should I take her to my chair even though she flies back all the time as well as putting her on the blanket? Oh and she was growling and screaching every time my husband went to her cage, finally found out she doesn't like hats. She still runs when she see's him approach her cage and she will step up to him but flies right back to her cage as soon as she steps up. Well that's the end of week 2. Hope week 3 & 4 will get a little better.
