Well I'm thankful that she feels safe at least. As for the flying she DOES have her wings clipped. I know some ppl don't agree with this but, we have such a small house she could actually do more harm to herself so we decided to have them clipped. She has 5 feathers off of each wing. The breeder said she could tell us in a week or two how to clip one more off of her but not to do it right now.

Ok I was always told this was a good sign. She is in her cage and she is on one foot with her head under her wing sleeping. We have had our Quaker for 8 years and we barely ever see her do that. I was told that when they feel safe they do that to sleep. I don't know just hoping she gets to feel like home here. I actually think that could be 90% of her problem along without knowing who we are. But after being on a plane for 14 hours she probably didn't get much sleep, she seems to be sleeping every chance she gets. We are going to a Halloween Party this evening and I was thinking of not going but now I think I'm just going to cover her up put all the animals away and let her sleep the entire time we are gone.<br><br>Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2007/10/27 22:01

she comes out with no problem she loves to be at the top of her play gym but that's one of the problems we can't have her flying around the house like the breeder did. We have too many other animals that could get her if she flew off of her gym. When I had her out this morning I put all the other animals up. She does come out but it's like she wants to just fly around. Can she be broke of that? I'm sure we are just expecting too much out of her too soon. When I come into the room or my husband she gets off her little swing and acts crazy. She flies around her cage and I'm afraid she's going to get hurt. I had my hair up yesterday and I do have very long hair. Where as the breeder had very very short hair. I'm just trying to pull things out of the air to figure it out. Again it's only been 24 hours not even I think I'm worrying too soon. I'm sorry to bother all of you. Just a worried new mom I guess.

Ok everyone who read my post about bringing my girl home knows everything she went through. She seemed ok until my husband got home this evening. I have had her out of the cage a few times even when I swept the living room and she did fine. My daughter even got to hold her. Now I tried to give her a piece of celery and she totally growled at me. I had her on the top of her play gym and she kept flying off every time someone would come near just to talk to her. She stepped up every time and than I finally just put her back in her cage. Is it us? I am sooo worried maybe she doesn't like us?? I know it hasn't even been 24 hours. I am probably totally over reacting but I don't want to keep her locked in her cage until she gets used to us but she keeps flying off and with all the other animals in the house it's not safe. Although we do put the dogs in the hall when she's on the play gym with a curtain hung there so she can't get down there. Please give me some advice and ease my worries. All I want to do is hold my little one and she won't let me now. Like I said she will but than will fly off. Maybe cause the breeder just let them have free fly of the house, I don't know. Can anyone help???????????????????

Thank you Dan! And no not proud at all She is AWESOME!! lol My husband even said wow she is much prettier in person. He only had pictures and they really didn't do her justice. I am soooo glad she is here! I just can't wait till she settles in. She is such a sleepy girl today! Probably from being shuffled around soo much yesterday and than the new home lastnight and today, well for the rest of her life! So I'm sure she will warm up soon!

Thank You Talon & Judy! It has been a nightmare but I'm sure only good to come! She seems soo playful and thank god she's young so maybe she will just forget about that terrible plane. Although I thank Delta over and over and over again for making the arrangements to get her to me! But I can't wait till she gets settled and wants to be held a bit. She will step up with no problem but she doesn't like pet right now. I'm hoping that will change a little like I said it has been a nightmare for her and I know I can't expect much from her right now. It's going to take time for her to get used to all the other animals and the kids, hubby and myself. When we first picked her up and saw her she was growling very very loudly! When we got her in the car she seemed more settled when I used her name. I now know what you mean about the growling. I picked her up after she flew and went to go pet her while she was on my hand and she gave me this little growl, like not right now lol. I'm sure she will but I can't wait till she does!!! I am soooo happy to be home with her!!!!!:woohoo: :silly: :cheer:

OH WOW what a day!!!!!!!! We took off this morning to go to the airport at 10 am. Her plane was to arrive at 12:19. We got there and didn't see the flight # on the screen so went to the front desk and asked what was going on and we told them the flight # and they said "OH MY GOD" I was of course like what is going on, and she said the plane isn't coming to Charleston, WV. It is going to Charleston, SC!!!! I was freaking out!!!! They gave me a # to call and within 15 minutes they had it taken care of and she was headed on the right plane but she wouldn't arrive until 4:20 pm. So that was better than nothing. THAN that flight got delayed! It was going to be another hour before she would come! The poor little thing spent 14 hours going from Dallas, TX than to Atlanta than to South Carolina, than back to Atlanta and than finally to Charleston WV!!! I can't even begin to tell you how ill I felt  Anyway she is home now! We put her on her play top and cause of the day she had a few hours later I put her in her cage and she loved her new toys! I got her one of those triangle swings with the ring in the middle and she loves it!! She went over and climbed on all the other toys and finally kept going back to the swing. She listens very well to step up. She flew a few times off of the play top to our other birds cage and I just calmly went over told her to step up and put her back on hers. When all that went on with the mix up at the air port I called the breeder and she was franticly calling as well as me. She was in tears!! It was a mistake and mistakes happen to everyone and I'm hoping I won't hear too many that's why I wouldn't do that. I understand the dangers and though it could've been much worse she is young and seems to be doing very well this evening. I wanted to share this experience for the good and the bad. But mostly because my BABY is HOME!!!! She is soooo gorgeous! I can't believe how pretty she is!!! Instead of calling her Sugar like I wanted to call her I kind of stuck with Heart, but we are calling her SweetHeart. I wanted something familiar to her when she arrived and she already knew her name. Once things settle down around here I will take some pics of her. She is used to Wendy taking a bunch of pics of her but she has already been through sooo much today. Hope to hear from ya'll!!!!

lol Well thank you Judy I am the kind though that the glass is full lol. And as far as the head on the shoulders it's probably because 25 years of my life was in Ohio lol. We have only been in WV for 5 years;) But no trust me I can take a joke. lol

Honestly Judy we really don't fight. I'm not saying that to sound like a great marriage and hide anything at all. We really don't. Once a year we will have a little arguement about something but it's usually about one of us lacking in disciplining the kids and the other trying to be the good guy. We never hit our kids don't get me wrong but there are times when our 11 year old girl seems to be going on 16 lol. But no we never fight about money. We don't have credit cards, we got rid of them all so we have no bills there. We live pay check to pay check like everyone else but we just try to make everything stretch. When we see something we want it might take one or two weeks to get but we always get it. Not like a car or anything, we are no way near that lucky to save for one or two weeks lol. His parents raised him very well, they never fight about it either, they were 60's children lol so they are just free. My parents did fight about $ and I swore I would never do that. It never changed anything after the fight, they still had the same problem. My husband does say I am the most possitive person he knows and I guess it makes him look more in that direction as well. My mom can't figure me out either on that subject cause she can't believe we don't argue about it after all the stuff we have been through financially. But you just have to look at it in a good way. Yeh what is going on in your life right now absolutely sucks! BUT you have good health, a good husband, two healthy children and money coming in and food on the table. Now we don't eat filet mignon every week. A couple of times a year maybe but you have to look at the good and know that the bad will pass. It always does at some point. Congrads on the almost 40!<br><br>Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2007/10/24 04:02

When I was in the 6th grade I had this crush on a guy in the 8th grade. I left a few letters unsigned in his locker telling him how cute he was. When I was at a party in the 11th grade I saw him there. He lived only 6 houses down the street from me too. But anyway at the party I asked him if he ever figured out who left the letters in his locker? Of course that struck up a conversation. I knew he was engaged but turned out he was just engaged for convenience because she was kicked out of her house and he was only 15 at the time and his parents told him she could come live with them. What 15 year old wouldn't want a live in girl friend? He told me he didn't love her the way he should. Anyway he wasn't happy and broke it off with her. We started dating and after 3 months of being together he proposed to me and than we were together for 10 months total and we got married. We have been together now for 13 years and have 2 wonderful children! Our daughter is 11 and our son is 8. He is my best friend! In April 08' we will be married for 13 years. For as young as we are that is a rarety. I got married a week after my 18th B-day and he was 21. And we are still going strong! I think the biggest thing is we don't ever fight about $$. Why fight about it? Did it grow $ on the tree out back? Did it change anything after the fight? NO! So why fight about it? Anyway that's how we met. <br><br>Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2007/10/23 06:52

Ok as you all know probably there is alot going on in our home lately. We are getting our new TAG this Friday! But all of a sudden our Quaker has started plucking at her chest feathers. She now has a bare spot that is small but still all the same she is plucking! We have a few things that might have started this one for sure being a big thing probably. We put her in a new cage. She had this very old cage and it just wouldn't come clean. The ppl who had her before us totally neglected her and didn't clean the cage properly or anything. I couldn't get the cage clean with a wire brush! We have had her now for about 8 years. I just came across that deal where I got the cages for 1/2 off cause of the store going out of buisness and thought well not only do I need one for my TAG that will be coming home soon it would be a great time to get our Quaker Molly one too. So we have her in her new cage, she sees the other cage set up across the room which of course is the same as moving the furniture around cause that could spook her, she seems afraid of the latches on the new cage. But she comes to the front of the cage all day but only gets frightened when you go to open it. She will step up if you put your hand in the cage. She is also eating well still. I know there is some things that have changed but I really can't change them back. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do so she doesn't keep doing this? She just started and I'm hoping I can catch it early. I told my husband to try to spend a little more time with her since it's his bird. Molly won't really let me touch her at all for the past 8 years but lately for some odd reason she has let me start petting her. I know it's fall, could she be aggervated cause she doesn't have a mate? We really don't know if it's male or female but I'm sure both sexes could get aggervated over this lol. I know I would. Again I know there is many things that can cause this and right now we may have exposed her to too much at one time. What can I do? Oh and to let everyone know about the cage, it's bigger than what she had, we didn't go smaller because we know that can cause stress. It's a corner cage. She was used to having a sheet over the back and sides of her old cage anyway and we kept doing that with this one. So really not too much has changed on that part. It's even the same sheet and blanket. Any ideas would be very helpful. I would like to stop this before it went too far and she's naked!! Thank you everyone!

Cool I didn't know you could use baby toys! Thanks! I wish I had enough $$ to buy all the stuff they had, but still gathering the rest of the $$ just for Sugar lol. She will be here a week from this Friday the count down is on!!!!

Thank you guys and gals I was quite happy! I went there yesterday cause it was their final day being open and got a few toys that are normally $25 for $5!!! And like I said I got that cage and a corner cage for our Quaker for less than what I was going to pay online for just Sugar's cage!! Sugar's cage was normally $549 than it was reduced and reduced and I ended up getting it for $160 and the corner cage which is actually way too big for our Quaker for $120! I was soo excited this is just awesome when you can run into deals like this! That never happens to me. And I got some food that is called kitchen creations too. They only had 2 bags left but hey I can see if she likes them and than get them online. They seem really easy! Well thank you all for sharing my excitement lol:woohoo:

Is the pic not in the second one I posted? I got it to post in a new one, at least I see it lol. It wouldn't let me post it in the first one for some reason. I had to go back and resize the picture and than add it to another reply. Let me know if you see it or not.

Ok this may be stupid as my husband looks at me wierdly lol but I wanted to show everyone my cage and all of Sugar's toys. Like I said we went to the Petland that was going out of buisness and got all of this stuff for 50% off! Today was the last day they were open and we got a few more toys. I know the cage is loaded with toys and of course they won't stay in there, I will rotate them but this is all we got soo far. Just wanted to share, no one has to comment if they don't want to. Just excited like you already know and sharing it with you lol. Ok I'll go now lol bye<br><br>Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2007/10/14 02:56

Ok in the pamphlet that I just got in my care package for Sugar, there was a long list of dangers for our birds. One of them is candles and incense and dusting spray. Ok that's more than one lol but I have a question. I have been using these around my Quaker without knowing it was bad, she is 11 and we have had her for 7 years, is it really bad for the birds? I know this is going to be a touchy subject but I didn't know they were bad and she is fine, I don't burn candles every day or anything and of course I only get to dust about once a week. I'm not trying to me smart about it I'm just asking cause nothing has happened to my Quaker and being a smaller bird you would think it would have an effect on her. So are they really bad or is it just recommended that you shouldn't use them cause no one knows for sure? I don't want to do anything to harm my birds but if you were to take all the dangers out of your house, bleach, cleaning spray, and such you would have a dirty house! Is this really possible? Please help and please don't think I'm being smart about it, I really want to know what every one thinks! Thanks!!

Ok sorry I haven't been on here in awhile, but yesterday Wendy sent me a care package for Heart/Sugar. I wanted to tell everyone just cause I was excited on what she included! So if I bore anyone I'm sorry just the day is getting closer and there is more excitement! Unfortunately the date changed till the 26th which was a little further away but oh well I'm still getting my baby!! Here is the list of stuff! 1. A folder with; certificate of gender analysis, Instructions for the feeding and care of your new baby, which was a personally typed letter telling me what she has been doing since she was born. Tells me her favorite fruits/veggies and fav pellets. How many times to bath her an so on. List of DANGERS, A disease results of her home (which were all NEG results):cheer: , Sprouting instructions, recommended reading, A Poison list of toxic products, poison shrubs & Poison plants, Foods that are good to eat: Pellets, warm food, fresh veg, fresh fruits & misc. Timneh Grey "The Little Grey Parrot comes of age" by Carol Brasaemle, "The adolescent Grey" by Bobbie Brinker, & a pamphlet on what toys are safe and what are not. 2. Than she gave me; 1/2 lb of Harrisons, 1/2 lb zupreem, 1/2 lb seed, 1/2 lb Mazuri, 1/2 lb Roudy Bush, 1/2 lb of another kind of seeds, Parrot spice, and a packet of Beak Appetit Cinnamon Sunrise. 3. Four parrot toys for her She is just awesome!! I can't believe all the stuff she gave in her little care package! If anyone is looking for a breeder I strongly suggest her! Any way I can't wait till she comes! It's a bummer that it had to be moved a week but that's ok. Well just wanted to share with everyone. Hope everyone is doing good! Did I tell you I'm excited!!!!! lol :silly: Here's another pic of her that was sent Monday! Oh and we got her cage finally! I'm glad we waited a little, cause Petland was going out of buisness by us and we got a cage for 50% off!!! I got on for our Quaker too, even with both cages it didn't come to the price of the one I was going to buy for Sugar! I was a very happy camper! <br><br>Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2007/10/13 18:32

Thank you on the avocado, but really unless it's beans and corn bread or biscuits and gravy we probably won't have a problem lol. This is WV! We can't find half the stuff we used to when we lived in Ohio. But all joking aside, thank you. I will remember to not give them alcohol, chocolate (damn all the good stuff) And avocado. I do know they are very dangerous for them. Sorry just in a joking mood tonight. The date is getting more and more near and I think I'm getting crazier lol.

lol And me!! I thank you for giving me that list, I pretty much knew but wanted to make sure. I don't want to feed her anything that will harm her. I saw on here some recipes. I might try those as well! Thanks again!!
