  1. Ok so we are now at 14 CAG & 5 TAG's wow they really aren't that popular are they lol
  2. I can't wait for mine to be like that!!! She barely sits on my hand for a few seconds before she wants to run off. But she will settle down and her true colors will come through hopefully some day lol.
  3. I'm sorry Susie but I really have to laugh at the one lol. It is my husband's Quaker and I say husband not cause I don't want her, I say this cause they are strickly one person birds for the most part. They pick their favorite and they stick with them and they are very jealous and obsessive. Kind of like another woman trying to get at your man lmao. We have had her for 9 years about now. She did come abused to us where the woman that had her first loved her very much but she was an older lady and couldn't keep up with her and ended up giving this guy we knew the bird in form of a payment for carpentry work. His wife hated the bird and flicked it in the head and put it in a dark stair well with lights off all day and all night. So when we got her she was pretty screwed up. My husband took many blood sheds. He finally gained her trust as for I could never go near her. He would tear into him but with me she would latch on and never let go. I have scars from her. Any time I would come near my husband and he had her out with him she would run over beak open and when I backed off she would laugh at me lol. She is a very good talker but from what I hear not all talk. I think Dave said he has two that is on here and neither of them talk. Now I know we probably have the worst case, but she is really sweet with my husband. But I'm the only one who she will copy how they talk. I have no idea lol. And since we just got our TAG I think she has been jealous of me and for some odd reason has let me pick her up from time to time this past week. So they are unpredictable lol. They are very very noisy too. Personally I would never get another one. They are very cute to look at and I love it when she talks! But she always squaks at just the right time, when you are expecting an important phone call or something. Like I said she will talk her head off when I'm not on the phone lol. Don't want to scare you away at all though ,I know they have made great family pets for some but from all that I have read on her they seem to be a one person bird and protective. We do have a friend that his is the same way, will interact as far as talking with anyone but only one person can hold the bird. But than again there are a bunch of birds like that out there. I guess if you get one that is a baby you could socialize it like any other. As far as sweet like I said she is absolutely sweet with Jessie, he can do anything with her. That's why I got SweetHeart cause I was jealous of him and his bird lol. Now I just have to pray that she picks me lol
  4. wow they are very pretty! Are they a good sized bird? They seem to be even temp? Like I said in another post we are going to be adding a bird room now lol. Maybe I can add this to my list of birds I want lol.
  5. Ok so count now is 12 CAG & 4 TAG. I didn't know the TAG's were harder to find. And Susie my TAG is a girl for sure and so far as of right now anyway she will only let me hold her. Don't know if this will change of course being we have only had her a week and she is 6 months old. Her breeder was a woman and spent all the time with her so I'm hoping I have that in my favor lol. I told my husband if she didn't bond to me than we were going to keep getting more parrots till one did lol!
  6. Just wondering how many ppl have either a TAG or a CAG or both?
  7. Oops sorry Radar didn't see you Thank you as well! She will be prettier when she actually lets me hold her for longer than 5 seconds lol. But she is very pretty! thank you!
  8. TY spookyhurst. Yes I wish she would let me look into those eyes a little closer lol but in good time I guess. And I do tell her everything actually. I read that on here somewhere. I even tell her when I'm giving her seeds and water and basically everything. But thank you! I take it you saw her pics I posted this morning.
  9. Yes that is the problem unless you live in a mansion there seems to be not enough room for our bird habits. LOL We live in a modular home and we want to build a 10x50 addition off the living room. I held a Cockatoo today at the pet store and he was sooooooooo lovey!!!! So hopefully we can build by next summer. My husband wants more birds now as well. I brought up the idea of building onto the living room and he was all for it lol. So we'll see you all know how husbands can be lol.
  10. LOL Laurie I don't know about fine! But there is some progress:woohoo: And Briansmum I don't blame you lol. But we are now thinking of building an addition onto our living room for a bird room  We want a few more birds! But in time of course. Not any time real soon, maybe by next summer. We want a Congo and a Macaw and a Cockatoo lol. Nothing big or anything
  11. I put more up on my file if anyone wants to see them. I didn't mean to make that one soo big sorry. I will have to figure it all out lol. Have to work on one thing at a time lol.
  12. LOL Ok well this is the end of week one with my little SweetHeart! What a week it has been. All kinds of emotions and worries and thank god for all of you here! Anyway she is doing a little better, she's not as flighty as she was the first few days. She still doesn't want to be held too much so we just do it when she flies off or seems like she's interested. She is playing with more toys now. The first few days she wouldn't touch anything and if you tried to give her something she still wouldn't take it. She would lean back like what are you trying to do. She's still kind of like that, cause she won't take anything from our hands yet. She won't eat anything besides pellets and seeds no matter how much I cook her something to eat! Or just fresh veggies and fruits! But I'm sure she will come around. She's still getting used to it all. I want to thank all of you! For being here and the advice! I know I will need lots more to come but just wanted to say Thank you! Just wanted to give you an update on how she was at the end of week 1. I will post of few new pics on here as well. We finally took some today! 13. here is another one. See she looks like she likes it lol.
  14. She will let me touch her back only for a few seconds right now and then she will reach around with open beak but just as a warning. As far as the breeders I will show you a pic of her with the breeder. She seemed very lovey to her. I'm hoping in TIME she will come around and warm up to me. It's very nice to hear though that it took a month or more for yours to come around. That gives me something to look forward to and to know that it could maybe happen instead of years. Here is SweetHeart with her breeder.
  15. Lol Well I know now that patience is the KEY lol. What I have been doing is taking her out of the cage in the evening when I get home and let her play on her play gym, if she flies off I will get her and hold her until I can tell she doesn't want it anymore. If I can catch her before she flies off her cage I will ask her to step up and she will and I will walk her around. Otherwise she doesn't want to spend time with us yet. But I can tell that every day she seems to be doing something that she didn't the day before. I think I will give her a little longer and than try to socialize her with everyone at least for them to hold her for a few minutes or so just so she can see that no one will hurt her. And try to spend most of the time with me other than that. But I got some good ideas on what to do thank you all!!! And please keep them coming if someone has done something that has worked with a little TAG. She is only 6 months old. Thanks!
  16. Ok SweetHeart supposible ate very well at the breeders. Wondering if this could be cause it's all new to her here as well. I found out too that dinner time was a social time with the other birds in the kitchen as well as play time with them. So this is probably my problem I am having with her flying into the kitchen. Anyway, I was told to have her pellets and fresh fruit and veggies along with water in her cage when we were away at work. When I get home to give her a warm meal. So this is what I have been doing and it's not working! She pretty much seems to starve herself for her seeds. She was sent with a care package that had soo much stuff in it and she won't eat any of it really. She barely eats at her pellets. And with the fruits and veggies she doesn't even make a notch in them. She ate half of a carrot stick and that was it. She just started playing with some things like toys and popsicle sticks and these little bird treat balls. So that is an improvement from the last few days. Although I got bit twice today but I think she was just starving for her seeds. She gets them on her play gym when I get home and put her on her play top. I tried taking the seeds off today and yesterday and giving her a warm meal. I bought these packs called Kitchen Creations and if I were a parrot I would love them lol. I don't understand is it just cause she is still settling? Should I take the seeds away? She seems very grumpy if she doesn't get them when she is out. Can you help me on this? I don't want to starve her and I don't want her to be grumpy. I know she won't starve but I want her to be happy. Any suggestions? Thanks again guys/gals! If I didn't have all of you I don't know what I would do! I will try to load a pic here in a little bit of her to show you a better one. Oh and is it unusual that she won't take anything from my hand? Like food? She won't eat anything off my plate when I try to give it to her. Ok I think that's it for questions for the moment lol. Thanks again!
  17. I have a question lol. I know I've had many of them. But I thought that the TAG's were known to be family birds? Actually most birds if gotten at a young age. I just read a post on My bird doesn't like human touch or something close to that and read that the woman's husband shouldn't touch her young parrot until she has established a relationship with her bird. I do want to be the one that SweetHeart bonds to. I know I can't force this on her on who to pick.but we did want a family bird as well and we thought we had read that if you introduced them to the other memebers of the family they would go to them as well. Is this after I have got a relationship with her? When should I let other members try to hold her? I can't hold her yet really but as you all know we haven't even had her a week. So still giving her lots of time. She gave me my first pretty good nip today She looked as if she was going to fly off her stand so I went over and picked her up and we went for a walk into the kitchen. I hold her toes lightly with my thumb just so she won't fly off when I have her on my hand. I want her to know it will be my idea to put her down. Of course when she gets antsy and wants down I do put her down I don't torchure her I just don't want her to fly off every time. I don't get to hold her very long anyway yet. Not even a minute yet. But she bent down and gave me a nip and I said no no no and she stopped. I than walked her over to her cage and told her to step down and she did. But my main and biggest question is should I wait to socialize her until I have a relationship with her? And any ideas on how to do this? She won't let me really keep her with me. But again I know it's all new for both of us so it will take time I know. Just any suggestions would be great! Thanks!!
  18. well see she is 6 months old and the breeder doesn't clip any of hers either but I asked for it. She did 2 feathers a few weeks before she was shipped and than 3 more the day before she was clipped so from my understanding she flew very well around the house at her freedom. So maybe it will just take some time for her to get used to the routine here being we can't have a flying bird around the house. I will just keep putting her back on her play gym. I don't know if it's cause she's still getting adjusted or not but she doesn't seem to be playing with her toys very much. She sits on her swing I got her but that's about it so far. I think she's just adjusting. Please keep writing and letting me know oppinions. Thanks!
  19. I would be clipping the wings with supervision from the breeder. She came to us with 5 feathers cut & Wendy (breeder) told me she could still be able to fly but not gain altitude. I just wanted her to be able to glide safetly to the ground and she told me in a few weeks she would help me with cutting them. I'm still not sure if I'm going to but she can't fly around our house. We have a very very small house and with the kitchen completely open to the living room she can hurt her self pretty badly. Yesterday she took off into the kitchen and landing in the garbage can with no way to put her wings back down cause of the garbage that was in it and she was completely in the can. I will give her a few weeks to get used to us to hopefully see if she stops but I think she will seriously hurt herself if she keeps flying like she is. I have come to realize I wanted it all to happen right away and I understand now well I did understand just didn't want to listen to myself lol but I know I have to give her some time and be patient with her. Please let me know if you still think the same way about the not clipping. I'm just worried she will fly over to the other cage while our other bird is out. She is a quaker and never been around other birds so I'm sure something would happen there. I just don't want her to get hurt and just from the past couple of days it's been scary! She ran into the window, fell into the garbage and keeps flying over to the other play gym. AAAHHHHH!! I don't know what to do!
  20. LOL Laurie thank you! I just get worried cause I know I am not being patient but I can't help to worry that she won't love me. My husband has a bird and all I wanted was to have a bird love me lol. I know it sounds silly. But I thank all of you for putting up with me!
  21. Thank you Judy. I am gettin impatient I guess. I want it all to happen in one day and I know it won't. I just want to be LOVED lol. Probably this time next week I will be singing a different song lol. I will give her time and try not to freak out cause she flies away all the time. She will sit on your hand for a second or two lol and same with the shoulder but than she flies off. So guess I will have to try to get another feather off both wings in a week or so and just have patience with her till then. She is making some cool sounds though!
  22. Ok SweetHeart keeps flying and flying. I keep putting her back on her play gym on the top of her cage and she insists on flying either into the kitchen or the other play top on the quakers cage. It's not like I or anyone else is in these spots she just goes there. She will fly right over my head to do this. Should I just keep putting her on her play gym or should I put her in her cage for a few minutes? I can't relax with her out at all, she is constantly trying to fly. She won't eat any fruits or veggies. She pecks at her pellets and loves her seeds. I know she is still getting used to all of us but what do I let her get by with? I have cooked warm meals for her and she won't touch them. I have tried to give her a bath and she won't do that, tried misting her she won't do that. All the things that I was told she ate or did she isn't doing. Is it just cause it's all new to her? Please help me if you can. I know I'm probably getting pretty annoying and I hope to be where the majority of you all are someday where you can actually hold your bird and walk up to her/him without them flying away. Thanks again guys/gals!
  23. Yes we thought about doing that as well. Our two little dogs are still crate trained. We did our labs when they were little but they are much older now and they are just happy to lay down. We do keep them in the hallway when we are gone though, just got new carpet in living room and since our one dog is getting pretty old she sometimes will have an accident. But Bob the kitten lol loves to sleep in our daughter's room the majority of the time so we are trying to talk her into having a cat pan in there as well and lock him up in there at night and while we are at work. We do have a second house (our in-law suite) lol next door if we absolutely have to keep him over there at least while we are at work. He could have free roam of that house while we are working and than be locked with my daughter at night. She's not liking that idea so far though. But I'm sure we will work something out. Thanks for the advice though!
  24. Well I wanted to give an update cause I know in two different posts I had Dan & Radar asking for an update today. So to just put it all together was better. She seems a bit better today, the kitten my daughter has didn't help matters any last night. The kitten tore off the blanket we had covering the cage and scared the crap out of her. So we are trying to figure out what to do with the kitten at night now and while we are gone at work so he doesn't terrorize SweetHeart. He doesn't terrorize the other parrot we have, I think he's just curious. Anyway SweetHeart was sweeter today. She is starting to live up to her name. She was a little nervous this morning because of the kitten but when she saw me she started making all these different sounds that of course I hadn't heard yet. She kept coming to the front of the cage and yelling for me basically. So I put everything up (animal wise) and took her out. I put her on top of her play gym and talked to her and she started to eat her seeds that I have up there for her for her treat. So I went into the kitchen which you can see openly from the living room where she is and I was fixing the kids something to eat. Next thing I knew she was flying in there with us. She landed on the counter and I fixed her an egg which she didn't eat. Tried to give her a bowl of water so she could take a bath and she didn't want that either. I told her to step up and she sat there on my hand for about the longest she has ever sat on there and I talked and told her how pretty she was and she just cocked her head like she loved what I was saying. Then she worked her way up my arm and she sat on my shoulder and I gave her kisses on the back of the head!!! I loved it! She has been out on her play gym since 9 this morning and it's about noon here now. She has only flown off once compared to the million times yesterday. I think she is settling down a bit. She still won't let my husband get near her yet. We will get to that at a later date. I told the kids cause they were anxious to hold her that we would try next week when things are a little more settled in with her and she knows that no one is going to hurt her. Thank you all for being here and calming my nerves!!!
