What a handsome looking guy!!! -
Ok just got this new camera and started taking pics and thought I would share!!! I love the way some of them turned out! I bought a Sony DSC-H7 DLS. It has Full HD 1080, 8mp, 15x zoom, along with a video mode. I'm loving this camera! I had just a 3 mp before and wasn't a DLS. So this camera pretty much takes the picture right when I press the button instead of the delay which is awesome! Here is what I captured!

Thanks Melissa you answered my question! I use photobucket but I always seem to still have them too big! I will use the message board one and see how it looks! I just got a new camera and can't wait to show you all some pics I took.

I agree and here is a pic showing how SweetHeart feels!
-
Ok I think what happened last night was a major thing, but not really sure? I have been trying now for the last couple of weeks like everyone advised to take SweetHeart over to my chair or wherever I was sitting and basically make her sit there, cause all the other things I have tried these past few months just seemed to not be working. So when she flew off I would go get her and than come back and have her sit with me again. Well last night, I had her sitting there and was able to pet her and than told her to come here and patted my leg, (we were on the couch) and she came over, climbed up and than climbed up to my shoulder and sat there and my hair was down and this is a major thing for her cause she hates my hair down, and she was grooming it and playing with it. Than she looked a little antsy after about 5 minutes so I wanted it to be my idea and I put her back on her play top. Does this sound like a good thing? Or is the grooming and what I thought playing with my hair a bad thing? I don't know the good signs to look for? I thought though that her coming to me on her own instead of running the other direction was HUGE! I'm soo happy! I had to share! It's been what seems like a long time! I know it has only been 4 months but that's 4 months I couldn't barely touch her! Hope to hear from ya'll! If it weren't from the support I got here I may have given up a long time ago! Thank you!

I just bought the kids a coconut to try and thought that the shell of it would be kind of cool for SweetHeart to play with. But wanted to make sure it was safe? Does anyone know? Oh and I made wonderful progress with her last night, and was excited, wanted to post it, but I have already posted good news with her lol. So won't bore anyone with it. But just so you know we made a major improvement last night! I may still post it and bore all of you anyway lol. Thanks!!!

lol these things are contagious lol. I have been trying to figure out where we are going to put him, but just had to have him! I actually have to remove an end table to put him in the living room lol, but it's best they are in here with us! So we will deal with it! I'm sure anyone who comes over here will laugh at us, it looks like a bird room! All the toys hanging from the ceiling lol

Ok it said it was too big, so lets try it here lol. <br><br>Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2008/02/09 19:56

We just found out that it is a BOY!!! My husband named this little guy Casper. Found out that name for Cockatoos is pretty popular lol. But we went over some other names as well, and he just kept going back to Casper so Casper it will be! Here is a new little pic of the guy too! I can't believe how much he is growing!<br><br>Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2008/02/09 19:53

Muse that is soo good to hear I'm really happy for you! It is good that this is happening relatively quickly for you. I know how the little things can get to you as it has with my SweetHeart. Keep up the good work! SweetHeart is 9 months old on the 10th and I still can't give her scratches she doesn't like it at all! But baby steps!

lol Judy never thought of that but actually that would be really hard for me right now cause I can't even really handle her too much. Like I said I am working with her every day, but in baby steps. The last time she was in the carrier was when she was shipped to us, so yes I do have one but she is afraid of it. I will have to work on that one I guess as well
-
Thank you everyone! I will check into the vets around here but to be honest with you almost all of the ones around here just deal with horses and cows lol. One reason I was asking is, we are seriously considering getting a Goffin Cockatoo and well we probably will be shipping again. I'm crossing my fingers!! I have already told this breeder what happened to SweetHeart and she assured me she would check more than twice that she has the right airport. But since we have to drive already almost an hour and half to get to the airport the Vet is just 10 minutes away from there. I planned on taking the new one just because, and thought that maybe I should go ahead and take SweetHeart as well. I just hate to put her through a car ride that long and in a carrier. We are barely making progress with her and I do believe that would set us back, way back! So if anyone has any advice on that note let me know lol. I don't want anyone to talk me out of it, just don't want to push what sweetheart and I already have built, which by the way she did really good today!! But thank you all so far! It's just soooo confusing lol!

This is my son and daughter with her tiel, she named "Spike" lol. He is only 5 months old. The mother picked all their little feathers right around the neck for some reason, but other than that he is sooo sweet! And here is the ugly cockatoo lol. Sorry but they are ugly when they are a baby lol. At least for the next couple of weeks lol. <br><br>Post edited by: Ronda477, at: 2008/02/06 00:19

Ok I know this is going to be a touchy subject. But I want to know the views on it. I think it will basically be almost like clip or no clip well almost. I agree and totally understand with no doubt that if I were to see behavior that wasn't normal I would take my birds to the vet. But the question lies here. As parents of our own children when they are babies we take them to the doctor for well visits. Do we do the same for our birds? I have had our Quaker now for 9 years and she has never seen a vet. SweetHeart our TAG has never seen a vet. The closest avian vet around here is almost 2 hours away, and of course in a heart beat would take them if something were wrong. I didn't take SweetHeart because I didn't want to put her through anything else after what we had to deal with the flight we had. That was bad enough and she seemed very healthy and was eating fine and still is, although a little picky, but still eats her pellets and seed all the time. I know I will get some people upset by this and I do not wish harm on my birds at all, just hope you all understand what we went through and didn't want to put her through any more. When besides the terrible flight she seemed perfectly healthy and still does. So do you take them when they are acting strangely? Or do you take them every year regardless? I hope I went get bashed for this I honestly would like to know, cause even though I took my children when they were real young, I don't now unless they are sick. So would appreciate your responses to this and please keep in mind I'm not trying to start anything!! Just would like to know what everyone does with their birds. Thank you!!!

Well we have decided to get a Goffin Cockatoo! He/She was born on 1/18/08 and will be ready by the end of March beginning of April. We will know if it a male or female at the end of the week. This is mainly hubbies bird, but who are we kidding lol. And I got my daughter her very first birdie!! Her 12th birthday is this Thursday the 7th and she has been trying to hold our TAG SweetHeart, well it's a chore for us to even try lol, and she has gained our Quakers trust so we thought with the guidance of ourselves we would get her a cockatiel. Thought that would be a good beginners bird for her. They like to hang out on the shoulders and eat just like a parrot for the most part and the good thing is the bites aren't as bad! lol So we are slowly building. It's like a habit and I want one of everything lol. Hubby and I have been reading for the last two years on hand feeding and we are talking about within the next two years or so, later than sooner, starting to breed parrots. Of course we would just start with one pair. I'm in no hurry at all. I wouldn't want to harm anything cause of being stupid. But this is down the road, when we have had more experience under our belts with the bigger parrots. We do have our Quaker for 12 years but they are completely different then the bigger cousins like the TAG, CAG or the Cockatoo's. Just thought I would fill everyone in at least on our new little members!

We own a green quaker, and we got her when she was 3 years old and abused. Hubby can now handle her anywhere and do anything to her, of course we have had her for about 9 years now. But she is very very good at talking! She says tons of phrases and on command for people. She used to be just my husbands bird after he did all the work with getting her back after the abuse, but since we got our TAG she loves attention now from anyone lol. And of course hubby is still her favorite. But she is very loud! The pictures you have are very pretty Tari! I didn't know they had different personalities. That's good to know! I was against getting another quaker for how loud they can be and just kind of annoying lol. And we do give her attention all the time, don't get me wrong, she's out with us every day. But I may consider a blue one, I have always thought they were pretty!
-
Yep do that all the time, the problem isn't when she's on my hand it's when I'm trying to have her next to me on the chair, the desk, anywhere.
-
Here is a picture of her with me today. But had to take it quick for she flies off soooooo often!
-
This makes the 3rd time trying to post this!!!! Ok I posted the same question a few days after I got SweetHeart than again about 3weeks later. Now it almost 4months later. I have been doing what was advised and although we are getting more hands on time with her, with bites lol, we haven't given up. My question is, she is already had 5 feathers clipped. When I bring her to my chair and keep her there, well try to, she flies off every 2 minutes or so. She gains height and can fly 15 feet at her furthest point. I can't seem to get anywhere with her when she keep flying off like this. All I want is to have her sit with me! Not cuddle so please don't tell me on how they aren't cuddly birds. I never thought she would be, but do think you should be able to have her sit with me and not fly off after spending that much on her and trying to be soo patient with her and giving her all the time she needs to settle in. She knows us now and I think she should at least be able to sit with us. She is almost 9 months old, and it is soo frustrating hearing about how many people can handle theirs and although I can get her to step up with no problem I can't get her to stay with me. Have tried the toys thing, have tried the food thing, just feel like this is my last option. Please tell me if you think I should go ahead and clip the other two feathers as the breeder said I could and it would be safe. This would make her a little more dependent on us, while still being able to glide to the ground safely. I have another parrot as well so I do know how to clip wings so that isn't an issue. I want all options good and bad, just have been very patient through all of this and for those who know me on here I think you would agree, it's just soo hard to do all of this and not get any reward out of it. I feel like we are just at a stand still. Please HELP!!!
-
Oh wow Tari sorry I never even knew anyone answered this!! Thank you very much! I knew you would be the one to answer it lol. I have always loved the blue quakers as well, but they are just soo squaky lol. Well Quakers in general! I think one is enough lol

LOL Joe glad I can make you laugh always a pleasure lol. Some of the Italian must of rubbed off though lol. My mom can't even figure out how I can be more stubborn than her sometimes lol. I always tell her the Irish/Italian raising combo, along with the big German bones, I actually am kind of scary when I get mad lol
