  1. Well birds should be allowed to fly in my opinion, thats why they have wings you dont buy a dog & cut of it's legs ! Yes your grey should be caged when you are out for safety reasons, leaving a bird free in any room, other than a birdroom is an acident waiting to happen.A playstand is a good place for your grey to hang out when he is not caged.
  2. Sounds as if you have made great progress with Gizmo.Always take one step at a time & at his own pace, never force him to do anything he doesnt wont to.continue as you are going & you will reep the rewards for your time & patience

  5. If he is eating well on his own accord id be inclined to cut the handfeeds back,at his age as i said many babies are recieving none or one, perhaps go down to three then two & keep the nightime feed up.A good idea is to monitor his weight.when babies learn to fly/fledge there may be a decrease in their weight,so dont be to surprised if he looses a little.

  9. Sounds very much like your grey is regurgitating,A parrot regurgitates usually for one of two reasons, he is ill or he has decided you are his mate & he is showing you affection. The drooping wings along with whimpering noises is also accompanied by a bobbing or pumping movement of the neck.If this is the case it's best just to ignore this behaviour, walk away for a few minutes. However, just to complicate things, a sick bird also can make the bobbing movement,if this is the case keep an eye out for food in the cage that has been vomited, changes in droopings, perching fluffed up etc..

  12. Thanks for sharing your views. As far as im aware the vast majority of our members here do feed a very nutrional diet to their greys. We always advise feeding fruit, veggies, pulses etc.. alongside a pellet or seed diet.It is also advised to keep sunflower seeds as a treat.Just by looking around out bird food room you can see what advice is on offer to current members & members of the public just browsing.

  19. Hi Pchela,im a little confused as i thought your grey was 1 year old ? ...Previous post... Pchela User Junior Member Posts: 29 I got a Timneh! - 2008/04/21 23:28 So, we went to the bird mart on Saturday and I fell in love. He's a year old and he was "discounted" because the breeder had to have heart surgery so the 4 Timnehs he had were placed with other birds a few months ago and are a bit less tame than they should be. He was handfed though and has yet to bite. Is this a new baby ? from what you say your baby sounds as if he is eating very well, fruit, veggies, pellets. All babies wean at different rates, some will wean quicker than others. In general around 13 weeks some babies will have refused handfeeds, some will be on just 1 nightime feed. Some babies can take longer to learn eating skills. If he is eating adequately for himself & taking less formula start to reduce the feeds down. There is a lot of information on the net about abundance weaning ,something i do not have experience with.
  20. sounds to me if she knows who her mom is now Pat
