  4. Sorry FairY i have no idea either.
  5. Hi Ross & Erin 1. My biggest concern is with the African Greys plucking feathers... Greys pluck feathers for a variety of reasons. That can include both behavioral and medical reasons. Sometimes boredom , stress or not enough human interaction causes an African Grey to pull out its feathers. Others pluck because of dietary imbalances, or environmental problems, such as people smoking or the air too dry.Moving house may or may not lead to a grey plucking, they are all individuals some may take it in their stride, others may be very stressed by the up rooting every few years. 2. I have a dog. Do African Grays usually do well with dogs? ... I have 2 dogs,as Heather rightly says as long as the dog is supervised at all times with the grey, never leave a dog alone with a grey regardless of how obedient or good natured your dog is,that animal instinct can kick in at any time. 3.Should we buy the bird as a baby ?... Re-homing an older bird is very rewarding, but they often come with baggage, considering what you have told us about your circumstances, i would personally advise a baby for you. ( just my opinion ) 4. How big of a cage do i need?... The cage in the link is far to small for a grey,it's the wrong shape.Big is best, always go for the biggest cage you can.Greys love to climb around on the bars etc..Width & depth are far better than height. 5. What is the dif between the Timneh and Congo African Greys other than color and size? ... A CAG or a TAG is just a personal choice,i have both & they are equal in my books apart from the obvious size & colour.Personalities will depend on individual birds, the only thing to perhaps point out is going back to the plucking,i rarely come across much info on the net pertaining to TAG's plucking, they can & do but i think it's more the CaG's. Heather you often find that there has been no replies to new topics because we are a worldwide forum, the time difference's are vast among us, you are probably fast asleep as i type & if you are Good morning to you

  8. Hi Sabrina & Welcome to the forum. It's nice to hear you & your family enjoy the site.Yes greys are time consuming & need pretty much the same attention as a young child, but the joy & love in return is priceless. I waited until my kids were older to get a grey & ended up with four We look forward to hearing more from you

  12. It will be fine for your TAG, id say go for it until you have the money for the one you have set your heart on .Just be sure to give it a good clean with an avian disinfectant, check for loose nuts, any sharp edges, but it looks in good condition
  13. Thanks for the reminder Penny, all done here
  14. Hi Terri, you will see an increase in he loss of the little white downy feathers.Tail feathers certainly drop out during the molt, they normally start with the down feathers comimg out, followed by the smaller head feathers and nape feathers. The the wing and tail feathers are usually last.New pins will start to form which you will be able to see,They push the old feathers out.sounds very much as if Bella is molting.Enjoy youre wine Terri
  15. You can't beat homegrown Judy, tastes far better than shop brought plump & juicy

    finally

That's great to hear, sounds as if you guys are having a ball with your baby
  19. Yes Pat i know of the grey edging Still not 100 % but a good guide. The under tail coverts are directly under the tail feathers and consist of about eight feathers. Feathers of the hens will be edged in grey, while males will be solid red. Males will occasionally have a "hairline" of white on the edge.
  20. Nice Mark, i bet you werent that close to take the piccy
  21. strawberries are recognized as having more vitamin C than some citrus fruits. They are also high in fiber, folate, potassium and antioxidants, A big thumbs up for our greys, they are also a natural means of reducing the chances of heart disease, high blood pressure & are great for us humans too
  22. ccongratulations Pat, i hope everything is well with your new grandson
  23. Making medicine time into fun time/game is a great idea Penny. It's not easy to administer medicine to a reluctant grey, but you sound as if you have sussed My fingers are crossed that Talon makes a speedy recovery
