Good for you Pat acting on the first sign of a problem.Hopefully the meds will kick in pretty quick & the infection will clear

I would imagine it was the baby food,i still give mine an evening treat, they often make a mess & it stains the face,have a wet piece of cotton wool or paper towel handy to wipe her beak & face after you have fed her. They often get little scratches from rough play from their toys,as long as it's not deep or bleeding i wouldn't worry to much

Whatever decision you make please think long & hard, do not jump into anything to quickly that you may regret later on,The most important factor is the wellbeing of your grey as im sure you aware.I wish you the best in making a decision.

Are you able to purchase an alarm of some kind,something similar to a smoke alarm or carbon monoxide alarm ? which will detect if any toxic fumes are still present in the oven ? Or call the appropriate repairmen for advice.

To be honest Caroline i don't think many people will put their hands up & admit it was the talking factor that attracted them to acquiring a grey, but I'm sure for some people it was the case.It does seem at times that speaking is a big issues for some owners. I for one never got my greys for their mimicking ability.They have far more to offer , speech was just an added bonus alongside their complex personalities.

Sorry amy just caught up with this,As far as im aware the birds stay there, they are not adopted out.Im afraid it's one place i couldnt bring myself to visit, i would come away an emotional wreck

As with everything there is no set age as to when they start to mimic speech.My boys were around 5 months, prior to the speech you tend to get all the gargling/ babbling sounds.Rule of thumb is anywhere from 6 months to a year but as greys are all individuals this will vary from each bird Caroline im pretty certain the baby will pick up speech from Charlie,my girls were pretty quiet when i got them but pretty soon were copying everything the boys said. I do believe they pick everything up from each other.
