1. A vet visit as the others have said to rule out any medical conditions first, There is always a reason behind the plucking & it can be so frustrating for owners because you have to find out what is causing it, before you can start to fix the problem.Has there been anything that has changed in your greys life recently which may have started her to pluck ?The list is endless but a few possibilities are; Frustration from long periods in his cage Lack of mental & physical stimulation Change of family circumstances/ environment Incorrect periods of light/darkness A poor diet, high in fatty foods Attention seeking. To help try spraying with an aloe vera mist, it doesn't instantly cure plucking but it will soothe a bird's skin. Some members have had a slight improvement after trying it.
2. I'm with the others the Aviator harness seems to be the most popular, the Cd that comes with it shows you how to get your bird use to the harness & how to out it on. Heres an old thread on the aviator. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/training/40469-aviator-harness.html
3. the picture is to long !!! i have resized it but your have to scroll along
4. Kat i have never heard of greys being kept indoors breeding, they need an aviary with the correct conditions etc.. but hey there;s always a first WEll soldier likes to be near the others even tho he hasnt taken the plunge & joined them in the birdroom.Eachday i leave the door open for a while, today Coco & Alfie decided they would come visit him,Soldier scared Alfie away but he let Coco perch with him. Coco is the lighter grey in the picture,Alfie is on the right & Soldier behind him.

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/01/22 14:48
5. deedee doesn't look like a jumper to me,but you are quite right i know of people who have put jumpers on their birds to help prevent plucking,if you do this supervise your grey & take it off before bedtime, there is the risk they can catch their claws on threads etc.
6. Greys tend to eat more in the morning after their nights sleep,Continue to leave her a few treats to forage for while your out.Fruit & veg should be removed after a few hours before it starts to spoil.I would feed her fruit or veg in the morning while you are still around then remove it if it;s going to be sitting their all day. Then you can leave her a dish of seed or pellet to eat during the day.
7. He is a handsome little guy, i like these names Swahili names , Kamili unisex name means Perfect Safi boys name means pure Baraka boys name means Blessing Good luck in finding a suitable name
8. Tari, i have three budgies living in my aviary with four cockatiels, they all live in harmony ,the lady i got all my budgies from had finches in with her budgies & they were ok,i'm not sure about a single finch tho,all you can do is carry on monitoring the situation. Fingers crossed they all settle together.

12. Thanks for the intrest Kat.Soldier is still living in our lounge but he is adjacent to the birdroom,he shows great interest in the other three & i do believe given time & confidence he will join the others,he constantly flies on to the door & sits watching them, i want him to make the decision to join them, not me ! i leave the door open & im sure one day he will just fly in He has become more vocal since i got him & i just discovered he loves Dolly Parton ( the kids got me a CD ! )He whistles along to her  So all in all were getting there, slowly but sure.
13. Unfortunately as yet it sounds as if Dennis has failed to bond with you.As Judy correctly said he has picked up on the fact that you show fear of him biting, you need to learn to be a little more confident with him, if you show confidence he may begin to pick up on that & grow in confidence himself. As for letting him out of the cage just leave the door open,a big tip for getting him to return is make his cage his only feeding place, he will soon return when hunger strikes. As for clipping as the others have said,it is a personal decision,if he is crashing into things he risks injuring himself, perhaps discuss this with your avian vet.
