  1. Hi Shaun if you have hand reared her from 5 weeks she has developed a strong bond with you & thats why she shows you the affection, work at getting her socialized with the rest of the family.
  2. Terri it is in theory a wonderful idea but as Tari suggests we are spread out all over the world, there would be a lot of issues to work out, who's in charge of the funds, whos the most deserving case etc.. I am intrested in hearing more details.
  3. Ronda i am so pleased for you if anyone deserves success then it's definitely you Keep up the good work
  4. Hi & , I know Perfectparrots wont mind me telling you that Alfie & Freddie came from the same breeder in the UK as Poppy & Charlie We look forward to hearing more from you & i am sure you can bring valued knowledge to the forum.
  5. Cosmo is a great looking grey, i have 2 rescues myself & know it is very rewarding to give less fortunate birds a new life, i am full of admiration for you.
  6. Soldier Flaps like mad, he doesnt fly off the top of his cage but its exercise for him,the others dont do it as they have room to fly in their room.It is normal
  7. Hi rickster & welcome, Patience, time & loving & i am sure you can achieve a great relationship with this grey,re-homing / rescuing any bird can be very rewarding .
  8. I have tiels who use to suffer from night frights but havent experienced it with my greys, AS BMustee suggests i leave a night light on for my greys, the ones used for babies that plug in
  9. Hi Woody & welcome, sorry it's a bit late
  10. Some can lose feathers at any time Kat,it may or may not be a molt,my two boys apperared to loose a lot of feathers & white fluff at around 10 months.Their 1 year old now & still have their red/blackish tail feathers compared to coco & Soldiers bright red ones.
  11. Nice pictures of dorian, thats a cool name
  12. Lovely pictures.Greyce's is a sweetie
  13. Here is a link on toy parts/recycling http://www.greyforums.net/forums/african-grey/51769-recycling-and-building-new-toys.html#51932 Cheap idea, string old toilet rolls, plastic lids off juice bottles together, my greys love to demolish them. Have a read through the link
  14. Welcome Amberyn, I only wish it was under different circumstances you joined us My heart goes out to you & your husband.Perhaps something startled her, dont blame yourselves.Given time you will know if another bird is right for you.Try & focus on the good times & joy Bella gave you.
  15. I fully understand you are feeling angry/frustrated ,we will support you emotionally while you get these guys on the road to recovery.I know only to well the feelings you have, one of my greys i rescued before xmas had a rotten life & it is a slow road to gain the trust of these neglected birds. As for seperating them im not sure,do you have two cages so they can be side by side ? if they have been housed together, seperating may well upset them even more. I would spray them both with the aloe vera. With an improved diet, some affection & patience im confident you can turn these guys around
  16. All greys vary in what age they develop speech/mimic, babbling noises are a good sign As for sexing DNA is the only 100% sure method.

Please pass on my best wishes to Mandi & fingers crossed for a speedy recovery & that you can find suitable accommodation.
  18. Nice link Hannah karma for you. Funny story Terri
  19. Christo without a picture i wouldn't advise using the ones from the palm tree, do you know if the trees have been treated in anyway with pesticides ? & if the pigeons are using the tree there is the risk of disease. The main source i know of for palm nut supply is a managed plantation in SE Asia,They are also shipped from West Africa.
  20. Hi Marg & I have 4 greys & 2 dogs then learn to know who is boss & can live together happily
  21. Hi Bailey, your emotions sound quite normal so dont worry, for thoose of us who have kids i quite often compare it to that experience.I was the same before i got my first two greys, anxious, excited, unable to sleep,& im still like it now with four greys they are like my extended children.
  22. I have copied your story from your profile so members can read through it while trying to reply, Troubledgrey wrote.... Cleo, my troubled Grey, came to me about a year ago in dire conditions. My dad, an animal lover, but also a doctor working 12 hour days, bought Cleo about 13 years ago when he/she (sex unknown but I refer to Cleo as a he) was just a chick. My mother, not so much the animal lover, was left to care for Cleo. Things didn't work out so well- Cleo fell in love and my mother became increasing disgusted with the constant poop and feathers about the house. Nine years later, Cleo ended up in the basement. A series of mishaps led to the permanent loss of all of his flight feathers on his right wing. Slowly, Cleo lost weight and sunk further into depression. I came home from college to see his state and convinced my torn father to let me take him back to school with me. I'm trying so hard to help him back through recovery but I need more help!!! He's on valium and paxol but continues to jump unprovoked from his perch. He has bad habit of dive bombing from his perch unprovoked and not flapping his wings to break the fall. A very, very unhappy bird! Anyone who is interested and has experience with traumatized birds, please, please, please contact me!!! Firstly how long did Cleo spend in the basement ? did he/she have any human interaction ? If she was left alone without human love & interaction then there is going to be a huge amount of psychological damage to Cleo.Jumping from his perch may well be a cry for attention,I would suggest you find an animal behaviourist to help you in rehabilitating Cleo.It will be along & slow road but I'm sure you are aware of that, good for you for taking this poor grey from what sounds a miserable existence, I only wish i could offer more advice, but im in no way experienced in this kind of neglect/behavior field.
