  1. Yes very normal behaviour,it is more of a baby thing & in time he should grow out of it,but nothing to worry about
  2. Hi & Welcome,Firstly do you have any background on the bird ? how was he treated, Is he bonded to anyone,Older birds can certainly be successful, but there is lot of potential for problems. An older bird that is not tame will be very difficult to tame & require a great amount of time spent working with him.A tame older parrot may be very bonded to its previous owner and many not be as tame with a new owner,at the very least it may take time and patience to get such a bird to fully trust and start to bond with you,I would say be prepared to accept the bird for what he is, if he extends his vocabulary then treat it as a bonus.
  3. Joe i just felt you was discriminating against the non - smokers asking them to refrain from posting ! i will not be drawn into a full blown debate,as i said before we all have different opinions & everyone's input on this topic is welcomed. Please may we now get back to the topic in hand which is to support Laurie & any additional members who are trying to give up smoking.
  4. Thanks Brooke for posting your egg food recipe, I'm going to try it out at the weekend
  5. Any breed of bird can have plucker's, There is generally an under lying reason as to why they pluck, medical condition, poor diet, stress, lack of stimulation, new home.etc.. the list is endless Unfortunately the hardest part for owners is determimg the reason behind the plucking.
  6. kllorio some no go foods inclued, Chocolate,Avocado, Alcohol,Mushrooms,Caffiene Have a read around the various topics in the bird food room, there is a lot of information available there
  7. I haven't seen this product before, i know there are many miracle products out there that claim to stop plucking !! It has the some good testimonies on the site, Personally i feel resolving plucking issues go a lot deeper than a miracle spray ! but that's only my personal opinion.
  8. misting baby Greys generally starts when the flight and tail feathers start emerging. There should be no reason for a Grey to hate and fear being misted, provided they are exposed to baths from a very young age.

  10. Brooke with the palm oil it is in general no more than a teaspoon a day, you can slightly warm it & i find they enjoy it drizzled over their veg
  11. I dont have cages anymore but i use to use a product called F10 which is an avian disinfectant, it can be used on everything, kitchen surfaces etc..
  12. I'm not sure if you can teach him to hang upside down, that's something they do naturally when playing As for playing dead i know some greys do lie on their backs but this an unnatural position for them to be in,many of the smaller birds such as conures dont mind it but dont force your grey. For the dancing i play music to my greys & say "lets boogie " i bob up & down & sway from side to side !!
  13. Pleased you checked out the electus Ronda do keep us up to date on your choice of a bird, it sounds so cool where you live i'd love not to see my neighbours
  14. {Feel-good-0002006E} that's a good one
  15. Well a what a wonderful start, greys can pick up on feelings etc..This guy sounds as if he is going to settle well with you Good job for standing back when she toweled him, a wise decision he wont associate that with you

  18. Here is a good link for hand feeding, it is a guide & all greys will vary slightly. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/bird-food/36364-hand-feeding-a-baby-grey.html As for playing with toys yes you will have to show her how to play, there is no siblings to play with It is worth trying to encourage her to eat while you pretend also
  19. {Feel-good-0002006E} So true Dan, i did manage to give up twice each time i was pregnant ! but screaming babies & sleepness nights drove me back :pinch:
