i know that Vitakraft produce many parrot treats but have no experience of their food range. Not all greys have a pellet diet,As long as you are feeding additional fruit & vegtables to your grey alongside the vitakraft then he should be getting a balanced diet

If you click Forums at the top of the screen it will take you to the main forum page, there you will see listed different forum rooms, for example the welcome room is for new members to introduce themselves.Bird food room is for all food, dietary related issues, training room is for grey related training issues & so on.Have a look around each room & then post a new topic that is appropriate for that room. AS for teaching your grey to drink water this should be a natural process, im not sure how old your baby is but fresh drinking water should be offered in a bowl.Perches should be put in to the cage at a very low level to start with just a few inches high.

Great tips Christina, might have to have a go at making the atom myself

They do vary as to what age they are weaned. As long as your breeder is satisfied that the grey is fully weaned & feeding well then you shouldn't have any problems.
-
Abdullah sounds as if you have found a good breeder, ask as many questions when you go to visit,if she has time for you & to answer your questions then your on the right path .

Yah way to go Klaus

POST MOVED FROM Feeding Tips. charliesmum User Junior Member Posts: 19 Karma: 1 2008/01/10 23:27 this kind of has something to do with feeding and trying new foods. my grey charlie lives on his own no wife or kids (arhhh). but recently he has started to regurgitate his food and is offering it to me. i thought he was ill so i consulted my book and it statd that if a bird offers you regurgitated food he would normally give it to his mate or young, and that you should accept the food with your hand if you can and thank him, i was shocked at this but i think that he may think that i am either his mate or his baby. post moved for charliesmum.

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/01/11 13:12

That may well ba factor Abdullah,Makena has given great advice & has shown in her story that all breeders are not to be trusted.Personally i would say to anyone looking for a breeder, make sure they let you visit your baby, allow you to see the parents, keep you updated by phone or e-mail on your babys progress. These breeders generally care about the welfare of their babies. You may pay a little more but you will know that your baby has had the best start in life. Here in the UK baby greys vary from £550 uk pounds up to £700. I know in different countries breeders do sell unweaned baby greys cheaper so they don't have the expensive of looking after them. As Makena rightly said, please do not buy an un weaned baby unless you are completely knowledgeable on hand rearing.

Hi & Do a lot of research in to greys & then you will be able to make an informed decision on if a grey is right for you.
-
Great stuff Makena, so pleased you could point Lisa in the direction of a good avian vet.

one of my greys regurgitates for me & i ignore her behaviour & walk away, as Reta correctly said in older mature greys this can lead to sexual frustration behaviour.Best to discourage your grey.

Hi, as Judy said my greys have their own room.Yes do paint it a bright color for them.Make sure any wiring is boxed in as they love to chew things their not meant to ! as you can see from the pictures mine have chewed all my coving & started on the wall !!I had a curtain pole at the window which they use to climb on,now the curtain only goes up at night ! I have two play stands which have their food pots on & i have an array of perches to exercise their feet.Mine love to hang out on their ropes, so include ropes. You can add the hanging bungees, you can see in the pictures they love these.I have a hanging java stand.Let your imagination go wild plenty of toys, different places for them to have their food pots,& a cargo net is a great idea ! i have just got one which is going up at the weekend ! Hope the pictures give you a few ideas.

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/01/11 10:55

As many new Grey owners are joining the forum many are asking the same question ,How do i get my grey to eat fruit & vegetables ? Many birds are picky or reluctant to try new foods, so i thought i would compile a list of suggestions that they may like to try to encourage their birds to eat a healthy balanced diet. Please feel free to add any additional tips you have. The crafty approach - Try adding your birds favourite treat to new foods, you can push the treat into new foods & as your grey tries to retrieve the treat he will have to pick pass the new food. Try offering new foods in the morning along with your birds regular food,Birds are hungriest in the morning & may be more willing to try new foods out. Birds are social creatures, try eating a new food with your bird watching you, they may be more inclined to want to have a taste if they see you enjoying it. Be persistent keep offering new foods everyday, even if your bird just throws it on the floor at least he has touched the new texture. It may take months for your grey to accept a new food . A kebab stick, specially made bird kebab sticks can be purchased, Add different coloured fruit & vegetables & leave it for a few hours,as the bird investigates he will more than likely touch the food. Presentation- Some greys love chunk's of food to hold while others will enjoy finely chopped or mashed food.Offer some foods cooked & served warm, while others for example carrots can be offered raw.Discover how your grey likes his food. These are just a few of my own personal tips & i welcome any additional tips members may have.

Post edited by: lovemyGreys, at: 2008/01/10 14:09
