1. Wow I feel like a bad bird mom, but I've left my birds for 3 days before. Granted my mom came and checked on all of them and made sure they had plenty of food and water, but my mom is terrified of the Greys cause they're "so big". I believe I have a complex now LOL
2. Actually I have a friend that has a DNA'd Male African Grey and he has turned his box into a nest also in a situation similar to this so I don't think its just females!
3. NEither of mine will go near theirs!
4. I've heard good things about these play gyms, aside from that I don't much much about them other than they look cool!
5. Alrighty here goes nothing! What are his/her favorite toys? Zsa Zsa-anything leather with knots. Red-Anything with woods pieces to chew on What is his/her most hated toy?Zsa Zsa-Wood toys, Red-plastic toys How large is your birdie's cage? Both my greys have identical cages, they are both 60"H 32"D 44"W this was when I first got Red, I hadn't gone toy shopping yet, so it looks bare, these are some of the toys she's got in there... What does your birdie's cage look like? White dome tops Where'd you get your cage? From a wholesaler in town, got them both for less than $150 cause they had paint chips on them! Does your bird have a favorite perch and if so what kind? They both love their sandy perches and Manzanita perches What kind of play stand do you have(pictures are a plus)? I just have a basic manzanita tree that is Red's she doesn't like to shre...I'm looking into getting Zsa Zsa one also How many play stands do you have? One for the moment. Whats your birds favorite activity to do with you(cleaning, cooking etc)? Red-Hanging out on the back of the couch while I watch movies. Zsa Zsa-On my shoulder while I'm online. Where'd you get your bird? Both my greys were rescues. Is your Grey afraid of any strange things? Neither of them have any unusual fears that I've noticed yet. What's your bird's favorite game? Both love Peekaboo!! What is your bird's favorite and least favorite food? Red loves quesadillas(very rarely, probly why she loves them), Zsa loves oatmeal. Red doesn't like bread, Zsa isn't fond of most veggies sigh. What is your bird's favorite treat? Red-avicakes, Zsa-peanuts Is your bird clipped? Yes, they go outside fairly often, and for their safety. What is your birds newest (or favorite) phrase? Red's- you're ok in my voice, Zsa-Good bird! Does your bird know any fun tricks? Red is in the process of learning how to wave. None for Zsa yet How many hours a day do you normally spend with your Grey? At least 2-3 How did you choose to name your Grey? Red was presumed male and was named Ted....she was in such a bad home prior, I didn't want to freak her out by completely changing her name so I chose Red since it rhymed. Zsa Zsa my mom told me since I got another Grey without telling her about it wanted to name her, her full name is Zsa Zsa Gabird(yes my mom thinks she's a comedian) Is your bird DNA sexed? Yes, both my Greys are girls! Do you have fun stories about your Grey? Ummm none that are completely out of the normal. 6. I really need to get rid of mine I think when I go on vacation in november I'm just gonna bomb the place LOL all the birds will be gone so I'm hoping that will work!
7. I give kisses to all of mine on the beak, it's hard to resist, but they don't pick my teeth or anything eeew! LOL
8. First I would ask them diet. Ask them what kind of feedings the baby is on and be sure that the baby is fully weaned. I would also recommend learning to hand feed if you don't know how as a precaution in the event the baby regresses. Ask about any habits the bird may have. Granted it's a baby so you might not have any bad habits that you would get with a rehomed bird, but it's still good to ask. Does it sleep with a cover on the cage? Have they been bathing it? Vaccinations....I think this is more important with open aviary scenarios, if they're a closed aviary it's less common for some of the babies to get sick with less traffic flow, but it's still good to know. Contract...are they guaranteeing it's health?! If not , you should REALLY find out why. Hatch certificates, a good thing to have so that you know exactly how old your baby is. Has the bird been fledged, was it able to fly on its own before the wings were clipped, assuming they already clipped them? hmm thats about all I can think of at the moment I'll ad to it if I can think of anything, either way good luck and congrats!
9. But sadly, it's not raining everyday, so you just get sunshine today instead of a rainbow! I wish I could bring my birds to work with me!
10. How funny! The things these Greys do huh!
11. Definitely sounds like he had a blast outside! It's hard not to punish them if they're doing something naughty, but you just gotta be more tactful about it, unlike kids ya can't reprimand them, and you can't claim them on your taxes:laugh: LOL
12. I would recommend going to a vert first just to rule out illness like mentioned above, that way it can put that to rest. Your bird could be bored, it could be from it being hotter out, I know mine have looked a little ratty due to the hot season. Another thing is it could be a brooding patch. I know that my older CAG has been pulling her neck feathers out, and trying to make a nest out of her food bowl that she dumps out:blink: I'm hoping that it will slow down towards the winter!
13. Newspaper works well, BUT I use old ratty towels and put tehm by chairs and such, they don't fly as easily as paper does!:woohoo:
14. I've never raised them but think they make the most adorable babies!
15. you will end up going to Paris but you will miss your flight to Rome, and end up having to stay in Paris the whole time hehe I want to have a drink with my friend Jess one last time, since we didn't before he was killed

Post edited by: loviechick, at: 2007/08/22 21:51
16. I'm the oldest of 3, I have 2 younger brothers and I ruled the roost LOL
17. LOL Yeah have fun with that....If you don't have any good toy stores near you(all I have is Petco, and they have awful variety) I would try looking at theperchstore.net they have awesome deals and are really good to work with for toys and food and such!
18. Yep Becky I know all about that! I used to sell things too, so I completely understand. Good luck, let us know how it goes!
19. I personally don't punish mine. If they do something naughty they just go straight to the cage and put on time out for about 5 minutes. Usually they grasp it and don't do it again!
20. I've gotten a used one off of Craigslist before, and it was fine. I just sanded the paint off then repainted it and it looks brand new! I would definitely check it out, and the home it's coming from first before buying though!
21. I personally would keep them in seperate rooms!
22. Probably the same genetic factor that causes other animals to have a bit of albino in them! Interesting!
