  2. I have the reflexes of a cat Dan LOL Now I've been bit, but it's always my Sun whos doing it, she does like water bottles or spray bottles of any nature, screw drivers I learned that last week while putting together the new birds cage...she actually climbed down her caged, marched to where I was, and chomped on me little brat.
  3. How funny! Yeah Red goes crazy when she hears a CAG on the computer!
  4. One thing I could add to everyone's advice is maybe try not misting him for a while....They clean with their dust and don't need baths as often from what I understand. I've heard that nail biting is often a nervous habit like plucking. A good friend of mine whos older lost her husband about a year ago. Her Blue & Gold has been plucking ever since and it finally dawned on her thats what is was. Now she has her son come over who looks just like Dad, and the plucking has stopped, he comes over a couple times a week to play with the Mac. So has someone new moved in? Moved out? Another thing is do you have any other animals? Kids running around that might spook her? Is she in a high traffic area like the living room? Those are things that could cause of lot of stress....Hopefully you figure it out regardless!
  5. My Grey pins her eyes when she gets an avi cake or her favorite a bit of cheese quesadilla!
  6. I'm still yet to be bitten hard enough to "brag" about by either of my CAGs, I'll keep ya'll posted LOL
  7. How cute! Mine does something similar to that I just posted a video of!
  8. I got nailed by my friends Grey once, but I was moving to quickly, but Red, she will step up for most anyone and let them hold her as long as they don't move too fast!
  9. I'd say if she's eating moistened pellets keep doing that. Try the syringe again later, but I don't think it would be a bad idea to contact the breeder. I had a lovebird regress and by the time I realized she wasn't eating her food it was too late! She regressed in 13 days and was gone. Better to be safe than sorry
  10. Here are a few videos of her talking. When I got her she could supposedly say 300 words, I have a feeling they were trying to sell me, but I have counted around 75! She tells my conure to STOP IT when she starts yelling it always cracks me up, Then I have one its dark, but its of my scratching her and she scratches her chin at the same time its adorable! Some are just a view of the floor in the bird room I did it just so you can hear her talking as she goes silent when she sees the camera usually. I'm hoping to get some videos of Joker soon! Enjoy!
  11. Figured I would announce it although I've already started a few discussions! Anyhow my name is Chelsea, I've belong to a private parrot forum and have always gone by loviechick, so you can call me either! I'm 24 years old and I live in the capital city of Oregon, born and raised here. I work in the psychology field. I love poker, parrots of all kinds, partying, going to concerts, riding quads pretty much anything fun. I have 4 fids, Mango a Sun Conure, Midori a Senegal, Red a CAG and Joker my newest edition, also a CAG. I've been into parrots all my life, and finally "took the plunge" about 3 years ago with lovebirds, which is where loviechick came from. I rehomed the ones I had as my friend loved them and wanted birds, so it worked out for both. Look forward to meeting everyone and hearing stories and seeing pics! Here's a pic of my Mango, Midori and Red on a tree stand, I hadn't gotten Joker yet when I took it!
  12. Hey all! Well see my biggest problem with this is I keep comparing her to Red, BIG mistake, there is a 10 year age difference, and this one was loved just not clean. In fact I got the test results back and she tested positive for gram negative bacteria, so I've been medicating her, and putting it in popcorn and oatmeal, and any other way I can get it in her. However this weekend has been a long one which explains my absense. Saturday I hung out a bit, read a book to her, she was taking treats from me, and by the end of the night she was letting me open the cage and scratch all over hear head and neck. So that was good! :woohoo: Well yesterday I got home from work and started fixin her dinner, and when I went to put the food in her bowl she got near my hand and I was thinking oh here it comes....she grabbed my finger with her beak, put it in her foot, then held on and started regurgitating for me..so apparently I must not be so big bad and mean after all LOL. She dropped her wings and was wimperin it was just adorable, she stepped up and everything and came and hung out with me for a while. She did pinch me good once, but nothing compared to what I get from my conure! So I would say that we have progress! I will try to post a link to a video I took of her talking to Red while in the other room, it's very cute! I've also decided to name her Joker, not just because I'm a poker fanatic, but because she loves to hang upside down from the top of her cage and swing around going woooo wooooo LOL Oh and Talon I tried the perch thing, you would have thought I was killing her with all the screaming going on, dear Lord! So I backed off from that idea, at the moment everything is going well, I'm just waiting for the honeymoon to end now...here are a couple pics, it's the only ones I have on my work computer, I will try to post more later
  13. It's accurate! Another couple that aren't mentioned on here are with the eyes. CAGS have a black ring around the edge of the eye, and on males it is much thicker, almost like they're wearing eyeliner. another is looking near the vent, there are about 6 tail feathers and if they have grey tips, it's a girl. Both my CAGS are sexed females, and they have those feathers, and the thin eye rings!
  14. I got her on Friday night. When I went to go meet her it was so obvious that she is looking to be loved on, she stepped right up, and started wimpering, dropped her wings and started regurgitating for me. She is sweet as sugar I tell ya. Anyhow this situation is a bit different from my other CAG. My other CAG was so thrilled to come out of her cage that she would step right up so she could go on her tree. This one however she was let out of her cage from what I understand, but they didn't clean her cage in the (gasp) 3 years they had her. Needless to say I used a lot of quarters at the car wish to clean the cage. So this one isn't as excited to come out her cage as Red is. Anyone have any tips of how to go about getting her out without bein forceful? I want her to get some out of cage time, and I've just been letting her chill out and get used to the new sounds, smells, sights etc. I'm just curious in case in a couple weeks from now nothing has changed with her. She's not much of a biter, more of a pincher, so I'm not worried about getting nailed and she knows I'm not scared, I just don't want her to think she's going to be cage bound! Thanks All!!
  15. So today I'm going to rescue another Grey. This one is an unsexed baby, about 3 years old. I met him last week and he let me scratch him everywhere and then started regurgitating for me. He is so desperate to be loved it's not even funny. Anyhow so I'm bringing him home today. I have his cage and everything set up already in a different room than my bird room I have at home. After Q, I'm just wondering how I should go about introducing him. I am trying to avoid jealousy issues if at all possible, is there anyone that might have some pointers as to how to go about it?
  16. Here's a pic of me with my friend's M2. I don't think I have any of me taken with Red yet now that I think of it, I might have to change that!
  17. Awww Thanks Lidia! I think I will try that idea Celery and see where it gets me. I've learned her bribary treats are almonds and avicakes, she goes crazy for both of them, maybe I will try throwing some in there and seeing how she responds! thanks everyone for your advice It is super helpful!:woohoo: Anything I can do to make Red more comfortable and/or happy I'm willing ot try!
  18. Well I have had her since April, and by no means do I expect her to be a normal happy playing Grey in a matter of months, I know it will take time, and I'm in it for the long haul. I do get down on the floor with her to play, however she does not like playing on the floor and starts to run to her cage, even if I play in the bird room near her cage, she still doesn't like it. So I will put her on her manzanita stand and play with some of her toys, for instance her foraging toys, and she will play with those. For some reason though, she just won't touch the hanging toys. Unless she gets excited to see me when I get home, and then she throttles this one thats near her door LOL and Lidia, her Name is Red...when I first rescued her, her name was Ted, and I had her sexed, found out she was not a Ted LOL So I changed it to Red. She can't fly, she's clipped, but she flaps her wings and pretends to fly when she's on her manzanita perch several times a day. As far as how she is, she deinitely likes doing things at her own pace, which is fine. Memorial day weekend she let me scratch her head for the first time, and now she cues me by putting her head down and she will scratch under her chin with her foot while I'm scratching on top, it is freakin adorable! So that was progress. She was on an all seed diet before, I managed to get her on all pellets now as far as dry food, and she gets tons of fruits, carrots, and other veggies she's decided to like, on top of eggs, she loves eggs. She's a big talker too, I can count at least 75 words, and she learns new ones all the time. IMO I think she is happy, I'm just trying to get her to play with toys more!
  19. First off let me say hi, I'm new here! Look forward to meetin everyone! Anyhow I recently rescued a CAG from a situation in that she was in an 18X18X32" cage and was cage bound for 4 years. Before that she only came out maybe once a week. She only had 2 toys in her cage, and they were VERY ratty, and you could tell were very old, on top of being sized for a cockatiel. She is making leaps and bounds by the day, but I'm looking for pointers as to how to get her to play more. I give her foot toys, she just drops them and is like "Mom what were you thinking, that wasn't a treat?!" She has found one toy that she chews on, and I am more than giddy about it, other than that, she doesn't touch the other 8+ toys in her cage. I've tried rotating toys after a few days, nothing, I've tried leaving toys in there for over a month, nothing. She has 2 foraging toys that she rolls around on the bottom of her cage to get the almonds out of but that's it. Any suggestions?!
