  1. All my birds are potty trained, but I'm not a stickler about it in that they can ONLY GO over a sink/garbage can etc. Like mentioned before some will wait until their parents take them to the bathroom to go, which is very bad for the bird! I just read their body language if I can tell they're gonna go I take them back to their cage. If I'm out in public etc, I hold them over a can!
  2. I bought a cage for my Senegal parrot and had a good experience with it, decent price too! I would HIGHLY recommend checking out the feather farm, they have great deals and good shipping, I've known a few people that bought from them, all with wonderful experiences!
  3. Well I know when I got Red I had planned a vacation long before I was getting her, so I prepped by having my mom come over everyday to check on her, like she would be while I was gone. I alsotalked to her about it, cheesy as it sounds, and let her know that I was going to be gone and that Grama would be taking care of her. If it's more of a permanent thing like a job shift change, I would try a couple weeks in advance waking up earlier or later, adjusting YOUR schedule ahead of time to let him/her out at the "new" time they will be coming out, and also the "new" times they will be getting food etc. Honestly my schedule doesn't change, and I'm sure it's weird for them to see me home all day on the weekends, parrots are fairly resilient though, or maybe it's just mine who knows, but a slight change of plans has never been a problem at my house!
  4. Well Zsa Zsa's current phrase is Good girl! She's still young and not talking a whole lot yet. Red on the other hand picks up on something new once a week and plays it out big time! LOL Her current favorite is You're a silly girl LOL Red so far can say that I've heard Cowgirl! Hi Come here Come here pretty giry Come here Silly girl You're a silly girl You're a pretty girl Hello Amanda(my best friends name) Whatcha doin Are you a cat, then meows Are you a dog, then barks Are ya hungry? How are ya? You're a silly cat Are you a bird? Hey Hey stop it! Mango stop it(when my Son Conure is scareming LOL) Hi Red She has phone conversations, hello, uh huh, alright, ok thank you bye Wow, what a pretty bird! Night, and/or Good night Good morning Whats up? No, Yes
  5. None of mine seem to care when I vacuum although, Red does drink a lot out of her water bottle while I'm vacuuming!
  6. I've gone into public with a big ole bird bomb on me so many times I just don't even care anymore LOL I'm not worried about impressing anyone!
  7. Well written article kudos! I definitely think that all birds should be fledged then clipped, I'm just paranoid as itzazu2u has had it happen, a bird with a good clip that wasn't a known flyer took off, I'm just thankful she found him unscathed! That was a good enough learning lesson for me!
  8. From what I understand, birds acclimate to temperature rather well. but from what I've gathered its not good to take them from one extreme to the other. Heck the other night I left the bird room window open, it got down to about 65 or so, but wasn't terribly cold in there and none of them were shivering in the morning, to be honest I think they enjoyed the break from the 90* temps!
  9. Let me clarify, if your bird never leaves the house, then I really don't see a huge point in clipping the wings, but this is also assuming that you don't open any doors or windows LOL
  10. I know my Senegal, she flies like a total brick, in fact I'm fairly sure she wasn't fledged as she doesn't know she can fly, I completely trust taking her most anywhere with a clip. My Sun Conure, now she hasn't had a wing clip in a month, and she can fly across the room and land on me, so I won't take her places unless the wing clip is say within a week or so. Both my CAGs could fly if they tried, even though they're clipped. I think that having a fully flighted bird is wonderful, however I'm not willing to take the risk. Just because they're bonded to you and will come to you when called doesn't mean you can't be outside, and have them get spooked by an object that is completely out of your control and have them take off, there is no "fight or flight" respoonse with birds, just flight. In my honest opinion I feel that giving them a show clip or not clipping them for the sake that you want to keep them in a "natural" state or whatnot is selfish, as you're not keeping them in a natural environment, they're in a cage with toys and such that aren't in the wild. I don't think harnesses are a bad idea, however I've seen birds chew their way out, or just plain get out of them. I'm over protective I suppose!
  11. CD it's my fault I was telling her how neat this place is, so if she causes trouble I will gladly take the blame LOL:laugh: Welcome Fran!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now stop giving me a hard time for not welcoming you yet dangit!
  12. I'm glad someone else sees the hybrid in it! I definitely agre that it doesn't look good, and I just hope Bos can get that poor Grey out of there!
  13. you're right the ionizers are bad! I found a honeywell one at Target for like $100 bucks, works great!
  14. Well hey harrisons is on there Judy! why not call and get a free sample since ya know they like it LOL
  15. Ya know I didn't want to "go there" but I'm glad someone did, cause I know that it can be heartbreaking to have an animal love you and not your spouse!
  16. Well that nasty cage I took to a carwash that had a hot water pressure washer and let er rip! after about an hour of scrubbing it looks great! Then I took it home and sanded it, as she had chipped all the paint off the bottom of her cage and it was starting to rust, so I sanded it repainted it, and gave it to my Sun conure! For cleaning the cages now, I don't have a pressure washer at home, and I do spot cleanings once a week. I don't like the cages to look bad in anyway, but for the most part all my birds are fairly clean and dont get messes all over their cage!
  17. How very bittersweet! I am so glad you're going to be getting a TAG though......Insert jealous smiley here! LOL
  18. I didn't know you could deny charges or anything like that! I would look into that Makena! And you're welcome for the suggestion, I hope they can ship to HI, as I've known a couple people that got great products from them!
  19. That is just awful!!!! It wasn't meant to be, and I'm sure the RIGHT one is out there waiting for you!
  20. How funny!! I need my dishes done, send Frankie over!! LOL
  21. I won't give my birds Crystal light, and thats the only "juice" I drink around here. However my Sun Conure loves propel and she gets a sip maybe once a week as a treat. I would call your vet and ask, they would be able to give you the most appropriate answer!
  22. That was hilarious, come aboard and live the dream! LOL
  23. I was talking to Talon about this in another thread. She asked why Zsa Zsa, my recent rescue was so sick and only given around another 5 years to live. Here is what her cage looked like when I got it, they aren't the best pictures, but it gives you a tiny idea of what this poor bird lived in: I wish I could have gotten closer pictures of them, and sad thing was this was AFTER I dusted off the big chunks of poop off of everything!
