  1. Greys are notorious for being one person birds, especially when it comes to maturity. The best thing you can do is socialize them as best you can while they're young!
  2. Both my CAG's HATE loathe and despise men, and they're DNA'd females and love me. They attach to people that attract them whether it be the way they pet them, give them treats, talk to them, it doesn't necessarily have to be the opposite sex, it's a myth IMO
  3. This question has been brought up before. I myself have a "red factor" CAG if that's what you want to call it. Some say its a genetic mutation, some say it can be caused from stress, poor diet, vitamin deficiencies etc. My CAG that has this was abused, stressed, had a calcium and Vitamin A deficiency and only ate sunflower seeds. So she basically fit all the criteria that it could possibly be caused from. So who knows! Either way I think it's cute!
  4. Great advice Lovemygreys, although from what I've heard and from what I've read in a couple books, more specifically For The Love of Greys, it said that African Greys don't necessarily have the height dominance issues that other birds will have. From what I understand they prefer height for safety, but not necessarily due to a dominance issue. Also I doubt it's from the female choosing you because you're a male. Maybe she likes the way you talk or whatnot. It also could be due to if the breeder was a male, or if she has been abused by females. You didn't mention if the bird was a baby or not, that can make a difference also.
  5. Red will say helloooooo and I'll say Hi Red What's up, and she always says Come ere silly girl LOL
  6. I have to shadow the thoughts of everyone above and just set ground rules with everyone. The good thing is it will be in your room and not necessarily a "communal" area where people are more likely to pester it tap its cage etc. I know when I had roomates in my apartment they wold take the birds out occasionally which was nice when I wasn't home. The good thing about Greys is they don't do so bad in apartments as far as noise level, hell I have 2 CAG's a Sun Conure, and a Senegal, and my Sun is by far my loudest bird and I've never had any complaints, amazingly!
  7. From what I understand Greys in general are the most notorious parrot for doing this. However, I haven't heard one way or the other about male or female doing it more than the other, as I've seen it in both. One way you could avoid this is by getting a Grey that is a couple years old, I know it's fun to get a baby, but getting a rehome can be just as rewarding, and more than likely you won't have to deal with those detachment issues. That's how I got Zsa Zsa, she became suddenly super nippy to her owner right around 2 years old, so she got locked in a cage and it never got cleaned or taken out or anything, very sad. And Zsa is a sexed female. Now that she's with me she's fine I've never had any problems, so I think that she "left her flock" and "found her mate" and has settled down. I've also never heard of male birds picking a female to bond with etc. From what I understand they can tell the difference between male and female based on hair styles, voices, physical characteritics, but they bond to those that haven't rubbed them the wrong way if that makes sense. I dunno thats just what I've heard. I have 4 female birds at my house, both my greys HATE men, as in will lunge, scream attack anyman that comes near them or their cage. And both lived with men before coming to live with me!
  8. What Joe you don't bite?! What a bummer LOL and I'm still waiting on my layover
  9. I'm bummed as I don't know the hatchdays of any of my birds either being rehomes or rescues:( I brought Red home April 21st 2007 Zsa Zsa came home on June 22nd 2007
  10. Yes, I agree with what Monique said, check into the quarantine requirements, from what I understand it's fairly spendy, but that could just be getting them INTO the US! Good luck!
  11. Such cute pictures and Makena's eyes are getting lighter!!!!!!! Just adorable I love it!
  12. When my Sun conure really gets going, Red, my older grey, she will tell her Hey STOP IT! Here's a video of it, cracks me up when she does it!
  13. Mine quiver when they're just hanging out and relaxed, it's normal!
  14. Lovemygreys has it right. I know that the best thing to do is not look when they bite-you're more apt to move your hand away. Each time I've brought a bird home I stuck my hands in the cage, closed my eyes and let them go to town on me. I know it sounds dumb, but I assure you, my birds only bite me if they get scared of something I have in my hands like a phone or water bottle, and I'm holding them at the same time, but that's my fault. Whatever you do just don't jump, that will be your demise!
  15. I was thinking about naming it Poe LOL Well that was a smart move to get that Raven, although I have to say I'm glad I've missed out with the terrible twos myself!
  16. I've been to the one in Las Vegas and had A BLAST I lvoed it there! Not my favorite bar in vegas, but right up there!
  17. I've had to get 2 Greys myself out of rescue situations where they just ate a bunch of creap, mainly sunflower seeds. What I did was mix pellets in with their seeds and did a 20/80 ration and had it mainly seeds. Then every few days to a week I would up the ratio, to where I finally was giving them 100% pellets, on top of fresh fruit and what not. They still get seeds sprinkled on their food, but mainly as a treat, not a main staple. Good luck!
  18. Looks great I wish all my birds weren't so scared of PVC!
  19. Dangit now I want a cookie!!! Is it lunch time yet?! Itzazu2u, you're just being a slacker, stop with the excuses:woohoo:
  20. I've heard where this can be a bad thing, but yet like said above it can be a good thing, but given the right training and right circumstances! Mine are caged seperately however!
