  1. I am of the same mind as Jay and MoonRock. At just 7 months old your grey is just a baby and is looking to you for all guidance, nurturing and learning. Believe me, one grey at that age can absorb and take all the time you have in the evenings for four hours and the two weekend days. Taking in a grey or any other bird in need of rescue that will need lots of attention and love to get them settled in to a new home would greatly reduce the time your baby grey needs with you right now and would greatly limit how well kizzy would progress, learn and build a close relationship with you. But, ultimately the decision is yours.
  2. Oh No, his wings are disappearing!!!! Water = VERY BAD!!! Thanks for sharing this.
  3. He would be hard pressed to bite through it. one note on chicken wire. It shold not be galvanized which applies a zinc coating. It would need to be steel. You can also check hardware store for rectangular mesh wire as well if you prefer.
  4. It is GreYt to hear such meaningful verbal interaction is now taking place between you and Alfie. Much more will continue to come. In regards aviary outdoors aviary, just roll him and his cage outdoors if you can. You could (budget providing) build a flight outdoors with just wood and chicken wire rather economically. then place 2x4 and other branches for roosting and decorate as you wish with some hanging toys etc.
  5. Welcome back Dee. It is people like you that set the example and contribute so much for the good of humanity and creatures as well. You truly are selfless. You have been missed!
  6. Welcome back Dee! It is refreshing to hear the updates (Though some sad) and how Gilbert has flourished through it all.
  7. Nice view Kizzy has. Thanks for sharing this.
  8. "He unscrewed the nut and bolt that holds the door on it's hinge, opening it backwards. I stood there looking at him, he was looking at me waving the bolt in his claw." LOL - That paints a GreYt mental image. He was just using perfect grey logic. Rather than having to open and close a door for entry and exit, why not just remove it? Thanks for sharing this.
  9. Cute story of Escher and the Laptop. As Janet said, you may find the keyboard interest may escalate. I have replaced a few keyboards myself.
  10. Thanks for sharing this story of Cosmo speech abilities and making quick work of a foraging toy. I look forward to hearing of many more.
  11. Awwww, cute photos of the snuggle. Thanks for sharing these.
  12. And words will keep coming... Congrats!
  13. LOL! I had to laugh at this mental image. It reminds me of a few movies where someone claimed that their critters and they could talk with each other. Yet when others were watching, the critter sat quietly as the human made a fool of themselves and were thought to be insane......
  14. Welcome Rick. I look forward to hearing more from you and seeing some photos when you get a chance.
  15. Welcome Marguerite. I love hearing of stories like this when loved ones are brought back in to ones life at just the right time. It is a win-win for both. Two greys together since young for years and that get along could over time decide sharing one cage is preferable. I look forward to hearing more as this reunion happens and you have time to share some photos.
  16. It is good to hear that reflecting back, you may have come up with the reason for the change in behavior. Harrisons brirdy bird is a big hit here too, especially the hot pepper. Here is a good place to find good toys: http://www.mysafebirdstore.com/Products-TOYS_BY_CATEGORY.html
  17. Thats good news. It is wonderful to see someone like you that is willing to just go slow and take the time to let the grey decide when it reaches different comfort levels. The other type people that push too hard and too fast, will always receive an equal and opposite reaction from the grey. Your doing a GreYt job!
  18. They love praise and will do just about anything to get it.
  19. Nice update. It makes perfect sense that Escher wants to go back to his cage when he feels insecure. It is his place of safety.
  20. Dave is the most experienced person here with Greys. It sounds like you have visited your avian vet and received a diagnosis, treatment and a timeline of it not clearing up to come back and see the avian ophthalmologist.I hope this does clear up without further ado. But, looking up hyphema and the 100% coverage you grey has of the iris. It appears to be very serious possible damage to the eye. I am hoping for the best and please keep this thread updated.
  21. Welcome Calvin. At 7 years old, that drastic of a change was initialized by something. Changes in people, home, furnishings, new pets maybe, cage placement, you name it. It could be one of many things. Any ideas of what may have changed at around the time this behavior began?
  22. Welcome Tara, Looking forward to hearing a lot more from as your journey progresses.
  23. Welcome! You are in for an exciting adventure once your new baby grey is home. Their intellect is amazing, as you will find over the years as they progress.
  24. Dayo - "Go ahead, make my day, ask for a step-up now, PUNK!
  25. Oh No!!! I am so sorry to hear this. You did all you could with the care you sought out for him. You have my heart felt condolences. I know words cannot take the pain away. The brief yet good memories and love you shared will forever live on in you.
