1. Bmustee, The Cage you picked in your first photo is the cage I had my 36 Finches housed in. I would be fearful that your grey would bite through those little bars. They are the same size bars you see on parakeet type cages. The cage pictured that MrSpock sent you has the appropriate size bars. It's your call, but though I would let you know how small the bars are on the finch cage.
2. Nice Photo KatB!! It sounds like Oliver is quite the character and having fun with you . :-)
3. Radar - Great Photos, very nice looking Grey!! BirdMom - We all know what you mean, none of our friends or co-workers understand our love Greys and jsut don't care to hear or talk about them either....their loss!!
4. Your welcome you gorgeous Ladies. {Love-000200BF}
5. Wow Matt, thanks for posting that!! It gives good reason to know or find the nearest Avian vet for all of us and especially to any new Grey owner. Perhaps letting Ponti's wings grow out for better balance and flight capabilities would help him feel and be more coordinated and safe, if your situation allows for it. :-)
6. Welcome Battle!! I see Lovemygreys has already put you on the right track. You should also do a search on Aloe Juice, you will find it very interesting and a must to mist your new Grey with regularly.
7. LOL Beccy, we preen Dayo also :-) He seems to enjoy the help under the Beak and on the neck/head area.
8. Those are all get ideas on the Water Bowls. :-) I have one on the other side of the Cage from Dayos food bowls and he never dunks food in it. I have one on the same side that he dunks mostly his Zupreem Fruity pellets in.
9. BMustee wrote: Yes, I use a 12 pack fridge pack of Pepsi box. I can picture the Soap Box antics :-)
10. These are all great and entertaining stories!! :-) One short story on Dayo. If he wants my attention, He will chirp, wolf whistle and all the other Grey sounds for maybe a minute. If I don't pay any attention to him, he will walk into the 6x8x18 inch cardboard box and then proceed to make every sound and vocalization he knows , more and more volume as time progresses. he will continue this for at least 15 minutes. But, if I reply back, he will slowly back out of the box and check to see if I'm looking at him. If I'm not, he will walk back and the box and continue at a more fevered pitch. :-)
11. Ok Ladies, I'm not LOOKING at the other posts ;-), but I wanted to post this for your enjoyment. A commentary by 60 Minutes Correspondent Andy Rooney (CBS) As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why: A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, "What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think. If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it's usually more interesting. Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if they think they can get away with it. Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated. Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart. Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off that you are a jerk if you are acting like one. You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her. Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize. For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?", here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!
12. Well, the Forum time says it's 14:45, here in California it's 5:45 am 10/9/2007. :-) It's a chilly 45 here this morning and getting up to the high 70s this afternoon. All sunny and clear though.

Help

Thats great magicgrey. She's starting to get to trained to recognize her body language Which, in all seriousness, she definitely has developed in her 2 years of interacting with previous owners. I'll bet your heart leaped when she stuck her Claw out to step up. :-)
14. It sounds like your visit went well and you and baby grey enjoyed it. :-) We'll look forward to hearing of more visits. I'll bet your getting excited about bringing her home when the time comes. :woohoo:
15. LOL Matt - You got that right. Getting in a yelling contest with a Grey is BIG FUN to them :-) They think your finally getting with the program.
16. Matt - When Ponti broke his leg, how did the vet treat it and how long will it be until his leg is back to normal?
17. Cool Photos CD, thanks for posting them!!! Kim and I counted 37 Hawks and Turkey Headed Vultures fly over our house in just under an hour yesterday. It is really a magnificent sight to see the Fall migration of all these Raptors. :-)

Post edited by: danmcq, at: 2007/10/08 15:55

Help

I would not recommend putting a glove or anything else on your hand. It would probably frighten the daylights out of her. 1 day in your home is nothing, in the amount of time it may take for her to trust you and feel comfortable in her unfamiliar new surroundings. Just give her space as you are and let her come out when she feels comfortable in doing so. It will take patience, but it will be worth it. If you push her to interact with you more than she is ready for, you could scare her more than she already is and make her start distrusting you. I know it's probably killing you inside, for her not to display the love you obviously already have for her and you desire to show her that through actions, but she does not share that with you yet. :-)
19. BirdMom Wrote: "It went on all day, it was a long day but I won. After the third time, which was about a 3 hour time out, he was very nice, making kissing noises to me. " Now that's what I call consistency! Great post and example of how to let your Grey know you set the limits, not them when it comes to biting. The "Fist of Iron" works wonders on letting them know, their bites can and will be taken, with the same result, they lose, you win. :-)
20. I doubt Dayo won't go through the terrible Two's, but he will always find my reaction the same. I will make him step up whether he wants to or not. If I must, he will get scopped up and taken where I want him to be. I maybe a die hard old schooler, but I have always believed consistancy was the best teacher. :-) Both my grown Son's can attest to that. When they got Hormonal and Testerone pulsating through their veins, they found Dad's postion didn't change. If they took their boundary testing too far, they found theirselves against a wall being given the riot act and the consequencial damages they may incur if they wanted to take it to any higher level. I guess what I am saying in a nutshell, is he will always find their is a force of equal and opposite reaction. I know it's not everyones style, but it has worked for me. :-)
21. Hi ChicBird, Everything you read in writing or hear are generalities and averages. Greys start saying their first word anywhere from 4 months to a year or sometimes never speak a word at all. So your grey is starting early!! :-)
22. Hi KatB, YOu need to re-size any photo you wish to post to 500 or less pixels for it to post in a reply topic. If you browse to the photo on your PC and double click on it, it should open the default image software which is most times MSPaint. The you can Click on the Image menu item and then on size or re-size. Click on the units down arrow and change it to pixels. Then change the largest value to 500 and the other will change automatically to keep the proper aspect ratio. Then click on Save-As and name it something like reduced_Grey.jpg and you should then be able to post it in your topic reply.
23. Thanks for posting your website AngieK!! The outdoor Aviary is awesome along with your indoor room also. It looks like a great place for all the Parrots. :-) I noted that you are avian certified and a behavioural and nutrition specialist. It would be great if you could help us out here, when you see the need. :-) Very impressive work and credentials, to say the least.
24. MabesM Wrote : "I rescued them all from a nasty situation, and i am very pleased with their progress! it's a long and unpleasant story. filthy cages, green water etc... " God Bless you for taking on such a task and providing these guys a first "Real Home" with the love and attention they have direly needed for years. I love rescue stories like this. It is so good to know that there are people interested at all costs, not only monetary, but also time and sacrifice wise to do such a wonderful work. Thanks for introducing yourself and your "Flock". :-) Maybe we could see some photos when you get a chance.
25. Beautiful Goldfish Tari!! :-) I hope they can get your normal login fixed and quickly!! That is a very strange thing to happen. I hope it is not something that will start occuring to more of us. :-( If it's a system glitch, it can and will happen again..
