  1. I think you have made a very smart choice. But I must disagree with the advice of not having any bird at all. A smaller bird like a budgie would do well in your situation and help pave the way for your grey in the future. However the info about parrots not being so costly when you get them is misleading. You still have to buy new cages, toys and feed them and then there is the really costly avian vet bills.
  2. Awww that is cute. They grow up so fast.
  3. Hyacinth are HUGE and even a playful nip could be trouble to an AG. So I would give them their own out of cage time and spaces. Just to be safe. Heck the one at work pinced me and it left a mark. She was not being mean just checking me out. So just use common since and it should work out fine. Kitty the Hyacinth where I work is so sweet to me. But at this time I am the only one that spends any time with her and her owner is ever scared of her. lol But when she gets out she well step up for me and go back to her cage with out a net. My husband loves her too but she is more bird then I care to own.
  4. lol stop my face is going to break from all the smiling. Your just to sweet I am gaining weight just reading your post.
  5. Thank you Judy you are a great cheerleader and you made me smile so you get karma. But only one. lol
  6. The egg laying or the paper shedding? Leaving the egg should help slow down the egg laying. I also believe if it becomes a problem there is a shot the avian vets give to those that lay to much but I would not do that if I could help it. The other thing you can do is limit the light. Longer days is when parrots/birds lay so if you can limit the light to say 8 or 10 hours it might help. As far as stopping the paper chewing thats what birds do. Other then keeping it out of reach not much you can do for it other then changing it out daily. That's a good idea anyways so it stays clean.
  7. Ok I need a good smile so I well give out 2 karma to everyone that post a cute birdy picture and or story. You can post here or start your own post if you like. Just make us smile.:cheer:
  8. I know what you mean Tycos_Mom. I had to remove Topaz's Happy Hut she was getting way to protective of it and not being her sweet self. It does sound like you did the right thing. But I sure bet that was so cute to see.
  9. I don't know anything about the use of sand. I use newpaper and I don't mind if the tear it up some but most of my cages have a space between the bird and the paper so not really a problem. I even give them some paper to rip up and play with. About the eggs I would leave them till they get broken or the bird loses interest. This helps keep them from laying to much.

  21. I don't think it is normal. But it could be he knew how to talk at some point in his life and stopped. Also the last few weeks I have started playing music more for the birds and all of them are noisier now and this may of started him talking.
  22. Makes since. I know I for one spend way to much time in front of my computer.
  23. Ya he does need to be in a different room. However it may be to late now. Not sure maybe someone that knows more about it might help. I do know many illnesses are air born. Until you can find out I would go ahead and move him just in case its not to late. Since he was tame hopefully it wont take long for him to be so again.
  24. Why is it in the spring time I see so many more misunderstandings on the internet then any other time of the year? Not just here but all over. Seems people just jump to their own conclusions faster then normal and get annoyed so quickly. One lady on one of my other forums thought she was being baned cause she could not get to her profile when she stepped down as a mod. And got all upset and left the forum. It was just a mistake that happened when they removed her title at her request. Just about ever forum I am on has something like that going on. I am going to try and make an extra attemt at reminding myself computers are not perfect and people never seem to read entire post must less threads. Yes I am just as guilty. Just wanted to vent and share something I have seen going on lately all over.
  25. My ISP went crazy and deleted a post on mistake. I reposted it myself. Sorry about he confussion.
