Gosh I always put mine in a carry cage when driving. Your bird looks so well mannered mine would be all in my face or on my head. lol You don't worry he well get something going to pet smart? I take mine to the parrot club meetings when I go. lol And sometimes to work.
-
Aww she does sound so spoiled. But we just can't help doing that can we. Someday I well have a screened in porch so I can let mine outside and them be safe from those nasty bugs and rodents.

Just like with teaching a bird anything you have to do it over and over and over. Just keep removing her everytime he gets up there. It may take a long time to learn where she is not allowed. Even months but it can be done. One thing is to make a different area more interesting with the chew toys like has been suggested already and with treats that your bird only gets when in that area.

This is the best way to enjoy fireworks. They are very pretty. And I don't have to hear them.:woohoo: Nope I did not take pictures cause I hate hearing them. They are much to loud and people do them for a month. Can't stand all that popping and not to mention all the people firing their guns in the city. Somehow they think it is ok to do that. They don't seem to realize they can kill someone when those bullets come back down. Not like it stays up there and goes into orbit or anything like that. Idiots.

Those sites must be wrong. I have sprayed my birds with it. I have added it to their drinking water and I have cut some from my plant and feed it to them from time to time and no one has gotten sick or died. I have even stuck it in a blender and added it to the food.

I have other birds. My grey Que talks when I am in the other room. She makes all sorts of other sounds too. She actually talks more now that I have my blue quaker that talks up a storm. She joins in every now and again. So I would say having another bird has increased her noise not made it less.
-
Nope I can't say that about my birds. My husband is my best friend. And then I have a couple RL girlfriends. But yes my parrots are very good companions. And if I could only have one type of pet a parrot would be it. The furry and wet ones would have to go.

Budgies, tiels and some conures are great with kids. But how well they do with your kids well really depend on how good your kids are with the birds in the long run. BTW a parakeet is a long tailed bird. Quakers are even parakeets. Budgies are also parakeets. (Many people still call a budgie a parakeet. I did for many years.) There are two kinds of budgies. The American budgie and the English budgie. Both make great children's pets if you have the patience to tame them. Parrotlets I would think would be way to nippy to be a childs pet. But not all p'lets are created equal. lol

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/07/05 10:29

Try the old phone books. They are suppose to be bird safe and beats throwing them out. Try different kind of toys. I believe you can even by a toy that uses a peacock feather. I must of bought 20 or so toys before I found ones that helped any. Good thing I have other birds. lol

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/07/05 01:45

Sometimes even after we do all we can they still pluck. My Dandy is partly naked. I have slowed down the plucking but have been unable to stop it and he has plucked for so long the feathers wont grow back. My vet says he is mental. lol Even had him on some calming meds but didn't help any. I found a couple toys by trail and error the slow the plucking way down. One is the cardboard boxes the other is a round toy with ropes/cloth tied all over it. But he still plucks I have come to terms with that. It took me several months to find toys that would help. He is a retired breeder and I have only had him for 8 or his 17 years. He is still my bird and well stay my bird.

Ok little out of the loop here and to lazy to go look up old post. What did your avain vet say? Blood work ect was normal? If changing the food made it stop a while then I don't think it is the dog. Maybe a more varied diet to keep her from being bored? How is she for foraging toys. Stuff that makes her work for food. How about a few preening toys? I know my plucked does better if I give him stuff like boxes and newspaper to chew on instead of his feathers. Sorry if all this has been covered. BTW love your birds name. That is my name. lol

No I do not even have any tiels. But my boss/friend has one and it is a female and says a couple things.
-
I would let her sit on it a while. This well help keep her for laying all summer log. Or better yet remove the nesting area or figure out a way to keep her out of the area. Close the door, block it off or what have you. When I close of the nest boxes on breeders most of them stop laying.

Talon and siobha9 both have valid points. Try everything you can first don't just assume cause your going to have a baby the parrots or any pets have to go. At least try to make it work. Children are for life but so are our pets and I think it teaches a great lesson to our children about commitment when we go the extra mile to keep the ones we made the day we bring our pets home.
-
So sorry it has come to this for you. But I commend you for tring everything possible and not just giving up the birds cause you got a child. There are many people out there that do not even try. The second they know they are expecting they start thinking about getting rid of the pets. No need to feel bad as long as you have made every effort to make it work for the bird and your new son.

I don't know if the quakers is the biggest population but they are the most trouble. They build their nest in the power lines and they can cause outages and fires. I would love to see a bunch of wild quakers in person and hear them too.
-
I use to subscribe to bird talk but over the years I have noticed they just repeat the same thing over and over. I did pay for one from Sally Blanchard but have yet to get one yet. Maybe I just dreamed I paid for it and right now not sure how to find out. lol So I am still waiting.

It has nothing to do with where they stay. lol It has to do with their waste. 6 platy when full grown well be 3 inches each at least so that is 18 inches and that tank should only have about 20 inches. One cory might be ok but I would think about taking one platy back so you can have two and if the platy produce babies your in trouble. lol Good luck. PS just so you know I am not just saying this off the top of my head or to hurt you in any way. Most pet store people have not luce about pets at all. I have been keeping fish tanks for over 20 years now and I use to over stock. I learned the hard way many years ago not to do that I tend to understock now less work and less deaths.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/07/01 13:05

That well work too. lol

Koi? in that tank. Not near big enough for those. They need ponds and around 300 gallons each. I love the look of sand in a tank but not the best to grow plants in and it can get in the filters and ruin them. So I have plant substrate in my planted tanks and just plain small rocks in my goldfish tank. Your tank looks great. But with all them platy in there don't think you have room for the other fish you wanted unfortantly 20 gallons is not a lot of space for fish. My 20 gallon only has my 5 white cloud mountain minnows and one betta. And I am maxed out.

Post edited by: Tari, at: 2008/06/30 12:26

I have a couple yoyo loaches in my 30 gallon tank. I love them. So much fun to watch and they keep the snails out of the tank. Since it is planted it is a great help. I just love my fish tanks so relaxing but none of my birds are interested in them at all.

One suggest get a crate and crate train the kittens. So that when you get your bird that part well be out of the way and go a long way to helping you manage cats living with birds. And it well keep BF TV safe when your at work as well as your other belongings Good luck

LOL you give up to fast. Glad they are happy. So is the cage they have really big so they can retreat from each other if need be? Mabye a larger cage well cut down on the figthing? Or maybe you could take out one side on the the two new cages and make it one big cage. Still keep them side by side so they have more floor space. Did that for some finches at the farm and it worked out great.
