  1. I am sorry you feel it necessary to return Whitney to the breeder as she already had a good home with you, I think her balance would get better with time as most animals learn to deal with their deformities. I echo Sara's suggestion to try getting in touch with Project Perry as they do have a grey enclosure that houses many of them but not sure if they would take her as I think most of them were former breeder birds but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I have been to see Project Perry and they are underway with a similar one for conures, everything they do for the birds is donated, they are a non profit organization.
  2. Just as some greys will pick a favorite some will prefer one sex over the other and you just have to give it more time, maybe lots more time for him to find out that not all men are bad people but keep up the good work.
  3. That was certainly a scary experience but if you have any doubt at any time about the safety of your grey do not hesitate to contact your avian vet.
  4. They are not shy about what they do, nice to see some birds getting it on in public.
  5. Well the dna is in and its a boy, congrats and looking forward to seeing the ring appear.
  6. Josey has never escaped from her cage either except for when I have left a door unlatched but that was my fault but my fear is one day she will take a hankering to try to get out, maybe that day will never come, keeping my fingers crossed.
  7. Sanggay is getting so good at capturing great shots but it helps to have wonderful subjects so Cocoa fills the bill nicely, almost cute little tiels too.
  8. Congrats on having a boy that will develop that black ring around his neck after a couple of molts, makes them so stunning, can't wait to see him after it becomes more visible, I know you are tickled pink!
  9. What a nice surprise for him to have Neytiri step up for him and maybe it will be the start of many more good things to come for him, a small step but a good one with more to come. Most of us bird people can't stop at just one bird, its more fun with more and we don't want to limit ourselves to just one species as we like variety, I have 3 different birds and though there are more I would love to own I hold myself back because I feel that the 3 I have are all I have time for.
  10. Well its for sure no one will be able to sneak up on you two without you knowing it for you have quite an alarm, my sun conure lets me know if anyone strange is around so it is better than having a guard dog around, sorry about your lip but they probably don't realize what damage they are capable of doing, I am sure no harm was intended but it still hurts just the same.
  11. What a funny guy he is, thanks for the laugh.
  12. She looks like a real sweetheart and I especially love the last pic of her napping, thanks for sharing them with us.
  13. Darwin is sure one cutie pie and thats great he took to the harness so well, you are off to a great start with him and I look forward to hearing and seeing a lot more of him, thanks for sharing the pics with us.

    Hahns Macaw

That is a pretty bird and I know someone who has one and she has trouble handling hers due to aggression issues but it comes from a questionable past, it was a rehomed bird, a lot of it depends on who had it and how it was treated.
  15. A lot of us grey owners use the red palm oil and you can give it every day if you like, that 1/4 teaspoon is the amount to use and you can mix it in other foods or pour it over vegetables or other foods they eat. If you use the pour method you will have to heat it a little in the microwave to make it more liquid but it doesn't harm the quality of the product to do so. Some people live where they have easy access to the actual fruit so their greys can get the benefits directly. As far as benefits, I know that the palm fruit is one of their daily staples in their natural environment and it has vitamins that they need and provides benefits to the feathers but Dave could provide more info than I can on this subject.

    Blood tears

That was traumatic for you both, I knew greys could do that but have never experienced it myself with Josey, I probably would have freaked out too but glad to hear she is fine now.

    Piper Update

Gypsy is the quietest of my three birds, you hardly know she is in the house but I did hear her hiss when she first came to us, she wasn't used to us and when I tried to handle her she would do that hiss but not anymore, she is a sweet little bird and steps up nicely now. I think Piper will calm down more as he gets more used to his new family, it took a while for Gypsy to allow us to handle her and to step up but she did and Piper will too.
  18. They do get used to routine and when we go missing they notice it but it does make us feel so good to come home and they are so happy to see us, all if forgiven.
  19. Here is the link to the one I have, I have both sizes and use the biggest one for Josey, she travels with me when we go to visit our son who lives 4+ hours away and it serves her nicely. http://www.thecountryroost.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=28_29&products_id=98
  20. Sounds like Simon is asserting his position as master of his domain all right but what to do about it is something I really can't help you with as I have never been in that situation before, maybe some of the other members will chime in with what works for them for this has to be a common problem with multiple birds.
  21. The best thing you could do for Sunny was to quit stressing about her weight, stress in itself is no good for our birds as they pick up on it, now get back to enjoying life with your fids, you all will be happier.
  22. It does indeed sound like Tui had a night fright, its not as common in greys but it does happen, in fact Talon has a Tag that has them occasionally so she might be able to give you some insight into what works for her when Talon has them. It occurs more often in cockatiels I think, I have one but have never known her to have them. The fact that she seems normal this morning although a little quiet makes it more likely that was what it was.

    Piper Update

Glad to hear Piper is doing fine in his new home and even though they are a type bird that will get along with the entire family they can have their favorites. Gypsy will go to both of us thought she prefers me for the most part and she is fearless, she goes poking her nose into anything and everything and not much afraid of the other two birds of mine even Josey, my grey. She will fly right by her head like it is nothing and sometimes land on Josey's cage, I have to shoo her off though for she would go for her toes. She spends some time every evening on my shoulder or just hanging out near me when I am on the computer or when sitting watching the tv she will preen my hair or just enjoy some time near me. They do have quite a personality for a small bird and I am so glad she decided to drop in two summers ago.
  24. They love to hide in whatever is available and your hair fit the bill, what a cutie pie she is peeking out.
  25. Darwin is one lucky grey to have so many wonderful toys awaiting him, I can see he will be spoiled rotten in no time, he is one handsome fella too from the pictures you shared with us.
