  1. Its been a long time coming but how sweet it is!
  2. Jay is right, keep the wild bird seed for the wild birds as it is not suitable for greys, please do read thru a lot of the threads in the bird food room for grey's nutritional requirements, they do eat some seed but it is far from their mainstay, they need lots of vegetables, especially dark green and yellow ones, a few fruits occasionally, nuts, grains, legumes, rices, some pasta occasionally, a little meat from time to time and they can have some of what we have for dinner as long as it is not on the forbidden list, all of which you will find in the bird room, so settle back and have a good read thru.
  3. Emma, check out this thread as it gives a photo instruction on how to post pictures on the forum. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?89533-HOW-TO-POST-PICTURES-photo-tuturial
  4. The others are quite right, they both need to be in separate cages and if one wants to become friends with the other then it will happen on their own and in their own time but I imagine that they will tolerate one another but not be friends. The person who told you to put them together does not know much about greys.
  5. I wholeheartedly agree Jill, its bad enough we are bombarded with the ads on tv and the radio but to have to listen to that for years to come is more than I could bear, glad its your house and not mine. And of course Bubba was saying "hi beautiful" to you and no one else, he knows which side of his bread is buttered!
  6. I see it a lot when the cheese container comes out of the fridge, yummy.
  7. Misty is an overworked and underpaid employee but priceless.
  8. You are not doomed Ray, you are happy as a clam for those birds provide companionship, love, laughter and a reason to get out of bed in the mornings, you wouldn't have it any other way now would you.
  9. He might just be more active and if so will eat more but they snack all day long so its not unusual for them to be back at the bowl a while after breakfast, they don't eat meals as such like we do, they are browsers or foragers so can seemingly be eating all day long.
  10. Those pendants are lovely and a nice way to honor Ivan though you don't need them to remind you of him for he was unforgettable and always in your heart. Congrats on your new bird and could we have some more info on her and maybe some pictures.
  11. That about sums it up Ray but it does seem that most of us have more than one bird and usually it is a different species for we like variety.

    Food questions

The green tops to a lot of root vegetables are great for our fids plus the other dark green leafy greens, Josey was munching on mustard greens last night while I had mine cooked.
  13. Eye pinning can be for pleasure as in he was enjoying that piece of food, I have observed my grey doing the same thing with food or other fun things but yes it also is a warning when they might be about to bite or dislike something, as you observe Romeo more you will learn when he is just happy or giving a step back for a moment warning. That funny little noise he makes when he is going to allow you to touch him is probably unique to each grey as mine does a sound that is strange to someone else I know who has a grey as hers does not do it but she has done it from the time I have had her, thats just Romeo's happy sound.
  14. They look so cute when they are wet, thanks for sharing that with us Marguerite.
  15. What a sweet sounding bird, you are making me want one now, thanks for fixing the link for us.
  16. Janet it says you have to log in to view as it is a private album, can you remedy this for us, thanks.
  17. It is just a personal preference to cover the cage or not, I personally do cover my bird's cages as they are in the family room where we continue to watch tv and such after they have retired for the night so they are used to it, I have covered their cages from day one. The only time they are not covered is when we go out and are out late and it is way past their bedtime, it is already dark in the room and I just leave them undisturbed. I know some here maybe only cover part of the cage so the bird can see out if he/she wants to. Don't feel you are doing anything wrong if you do not cover or if you do cover, its what your birds get used to that matters.
  18. There are times when we think we have totally blown it but given a little time the ripples smooth out and we come away with a better knowledge, when one of these setbacks happens just carry on as usual and things fall into place, order is restored and everyone is happier, don't sweat the small stuff.
  19. I love it, it is just like the one Josey has, I love the playtop on one side as it is not so high up as the ones that has it on the very top, Josey spends some time on it every day and loves to slide down the toy hook for of course she has to be on top.
  20. He may have tried too hard and you cannot force yourself on a grey, you have to take it slow and easy but all is not lost, it will just take time, maybe lots of it and patience. She may never come to favor him as before but it doesn't mean they won't ever have a good relationship, have him back off a bit and take it in small steps and see what happens.
  21. You will need to check the airline on which you are flying if they allow them on board and if so there are rules and regulations that you have to follow before you can take them, you would have to put her in the cabin with you and not in freight, too cold there for her.
  22. Gosh those were the old days when we had contests, can't wait to see what you have come up with for us!
  23. Looks great and I bet it was yummy.
  24. That is a great story Ray of how you came to have Little One, somewhat of how I came to have Gypsy, she just showed up in my backyard one day two summers ago and I couldn't find her owner so I kept her and she has turned out to be a great little bird, very sweet and lovable.
  25. If you are traveling by car by all means take her and when you leave the house on occasion just leave her in the travel cage, it is big enough for her to spend some time in if she is allowed out when you are there. I have taken my grey on road trips and she does fine and its best she spend that time with you since you are going away again so soon, just my opinion.
