  1. I would transfer him to the larger cage now, if he is flying he needs the bigger cage to be able to spread his wings when inside, it looks a little small for a cage for a grey but definitely better than that other cage which is more for budgies.
  2. Just because you handfed him doesn't mean he trusts you, trust has to be earned as in the way you treat him, talk to him interact with him, in other words it in how you respect him and his wishes. Sometimes it takes a long time to build that trust so be patient while that is happening. Some greys do not like to be touched much so that may be the case here so be prepared to just allow him to be close if he desires. You can find lots of ideas of different types of toys and even household items they might enjoy playing with, some love one kind and not another so try them all to find the one he likes the most, we have a toy and playstand section where you will find these ideas. As far as spending time in his cage that is fine, most of us have to keep our fids in their cages during the day while we may be at work but most of us have ours out in the evenings to spend time with us, they are flock animals so they enjoy being with their family, you being your grey's family. Hope this helps but we are here for any help so all you have to do is ask.

    Help Please

If you don't already have one in the cage how about adding a heavy duty bell, greys love bells for they do love making noise, no grey should be without one.
  4. Any kind of human snack food is unhealthy for our fids so only give a smidgen once in a while, not every day or even every week, they have too much salt. Meat is ok in moderation but no lunch meats for the same reason, too much sodium and preservatives, a little chicken now and then is good and a chicken bone with a tiny bit of meat is very good, they will crack the bone and get the marrow inside. You can try offering the different vegetables in various ways, cooked, raw, shredded, mashed or chopped up and mixed together as in a mash, some even put them into birdie breads but keep offering them.
  5. I also feed Harrison's High Potency Fine pellets, I tried the coarse but it seems she doesn't waste as much of the fine and she has eaten it readily since I brought her home about 10 years ago so have never really tried any other brand, why fix what ain't broken.
  6. No grey should go without some kind of heavy duty bell, they love banging them around and making noise and you have a beautiful flock of parrots.
  7. Hello Keeks and welcome to our family, looking forward to hearing lots more about Smokey.
  8. That was so funny but us bird people put up with a lot, at most any time when I am home and my fids are out I may have poop on me, doesn't freak me out, just means I need to change my shirt, sometimes I just clean it off the best I can and go on about my business. Ray that was hilarious about Corky dropping that bomb on Bacon's nose, maybe he won't be so close the next time he sees that red butt sticking out over the edge, especially if it wiggles.
  9. That is so nice that a few members live close to one another and can help each other when gone on vacation, its really important to have someone trustworthy to care for our precious fids. My hubby and I do not usually go on vacation together so when I am gone he takes care of my birds, of course one of them prefers him anyways so it works out well.
  10. Hello Kim and welcome to our family. Thanks for giving Kya a new forever home and I know exactly what you mean by they are smarter than we give them credit for, keeps us on our toes to keep from them getting the upper hand all the time. It sounds like you are one busy person and have a lot on your plate but you balance it with love and devotion, you make time for what matters, too bad some people don't and no wonder their pets suffer, enough on the soap box. I look forward to hearing lots more about Kya and maybe seeing some pictures, is that him in your avatar?
  11. You have the same jewels, aka hummingbirds, as we do, the ruby throated and I love to watch the iridescent of those throats as they turn their heads especially when they are sitting and watching for others to approach their feeder, gonna miss them when they leave this fall.
  12. I have no trouble leaving Josey when I take my trips as she loves my hubby more than me, he can do anything with her but if I try to intrude on their together time I get the stink eye, I have a good relationship with her but it pales in comparison to what she will do with him, not really jealous but I sometimes wish I could share in some of those lovey times.
  13. I don't know which is more adorable, GreycieMae or your cute voice you use when talking to her.
  14. [quote name= There is a procedure whereby a vet (that knows what they are doing) can use feathers molted from other birds to strengthen the existing feathers by attaching them. I forget what the procedure is called but it can be done. You may look into this.[/quote] Its called imping and it just might be what this poor bird needs to allow the feathers to regrow enough that they are not an irritation but you will have to find a certified avian vet for it and it won't be cheap. I just do not understand how someone, especially a vet could butcher a bird's wings that way.
  15. I have a similar toy for Josey that I bought several years ago and she likes to hear it clang but her favorite toy is her big heavy duty bell, you can always tell when she is pissed about something for that thing will bang with great force.
  16. How precious was that, they are amazingly small and seem to weigh nothing but very powerful little beings in how fast their wings beat per second, one of God's creatures. I have held a few of these in my lifetime, when we built on an addition they would come thru the openings for the windows and doors so when they were in place they got trapped and I had to catch them and put them out. I've also had them fly into a window and stun themselves and I have held them until they got their bearings and flew away.
  17. A sun conure was my first bird and I agree they are cute and ornery at the same time.
  18. Happy Hatchday Inara, sorry this is late but better than never.
  19. We all do understand how difficult it has been for you since Cricket's passing and she will always be remembered by our forum family, who knows another amazon might find its way into your life, it would be a shame to not share that love you had for Cricket.
  20. No I didn't know but do now, just how small is this bird?
  21. As Penny said, Nonsense already knew her mum so a relationship had been previously established and they do not forget so easily even if it has been 3 years, they remember and will act accordingly. It will take time to establish your own relationship with Nonsense so please be patient and do not try to force yourself on her, she will come to accept you in her time not yours. You will have your own relationship with her and it may be different than what she has with others, that's just the way greys are.
