  1. No, Miltie, you don't want a quaker, you want a grey, I think quakers are cute but I don't really want one. And if you can drive your hubby crazy, well go for it, I like doing that, keeps them in line if you know what I mean.
  2. Very well put, Ian, you are a beacon of information, I know greys are smart but you know why they are so smart. I am certainly glad you joined our family.
  3. I shared some cantaloupe with Josey the other day and she seemed to enjoy the juice more than the fruit itself. I took the spoon and gathered some of the juice in a spoon and she licked it right up, yummy. Then Sunny, my sun conure did the same thing, copy cat, but it was hilarious to watch and you could hear the little tongues working to get that juice.{Feel-good-0002006E}
  4. Hey you guests out there in cyberspace, come on in and join the fun, we know you lurk there just looking and wondering about us. We have a lot of fun here and learn a lot of new things about our greys and each other. I wouldn't want you to miss out so come on down and join us for some info, friends, fun and laughter. Don't make me have to come out there and get you.{Feel-good-00020114}
  5. I believe the all important first lesson to teach your grey is to step up on command. If you don't teach them anything else you must do that. They need to know you are in control and if they can do that every time you ask then you have mastered the first step. In teaching them to step up, place your hand in front of your bird close to the lower belly and gently push while saying step up. When they do step up, praise them cheerfully and lavishly, and then set them back down and repeat several times. You will have taught them that necessary first lesson and then congratulate yourself for a job well done. :P :P
  6. I come from a large family, I have 2 sisters and 6 brothers and 2 half brothers. I am the baby of the family, the two half brothers were first, then the 2 sisters, then my six brothers and then me, I always said Mom and Dad saved the best for last, but they all would disagree, but I know better. How many of the members come from a large family and if you were not an only child, where were you in the lineup, first, middle or last?:whistle:
  7. Most people describe sun conures as screamers, I disagree, maybe some are but mine is not. Granted she can be loud sometimes, but can't they all be a little loud sometimes even greys. They also call them a little clown and I see why. She is into everything, she rides around on my shoulder and tries to get into whatever I am doing and gets herself into all kinds of positions. One night as I was washing up some dishes in the sink, she hangs on to my shirt and tries to get in the water, well low and behold she drops into the dishwater. I grabbed her out real quick but thankfully the water was not scalding hot and she was ok, but she stayed on my shoulder for the remainder of the task. I think a sun conure makes a fine first bird, certainly a colorful one, with the bright yellow body and touches of orange, green and blue feathers, she certainly is bright. How many of the members have or have had a sun conure and were they screamers?
  8. Mandi, I hope all goes well on your visit to the hospital, we are all hoping for a full recovery.
  9. Another fine video, Mandi, such a cute and handsome bird, thanks for sharing that with us.
  10. You got a shy one there, Frankie, that is a cute photo of your grey hiding behind the tapes. Thanks for sharing that with us.
  11. Toni, your baby may or may not pick up that crying noise but if it does it will lose it once you bring yours home, when it does not hear it anymore, eventually it will stop it. Don't worry about it.
  12. And it will, Dblhelix, it will and and I may try that idea of yours to put the harness nearby with the travel cage and see if it helps any, thanks for the idea.
  13. Celery, you be sure and keep us posted on Vinnie, you see more and more people are interested in your vasa. You have a gem there in Vinnie.

    'nuther vid

    You learned that trick too I see, Beccy, there is more than one way to skin a cat, not in the literal sense but metaphorically.:whistle:
  15. Well don't be shy, we are family here and all are welcome to join in the discussions.
  16. I like your advice, Joe, Moms do need all the breaks we can give her, she is the only one you will ever have so be sweet to her. She made a little mistake but who hasn't and she feels bad about it so don't make it any worse on her.

    Clicker Training

    I like to praise the smart ones, but of course you make me look dumb, but that is ok, I like a good laugh. If you can't laugh at it then what is the point.:laugh:
  18. Me likey the playstand, Splint, that looks like fun for Max.
  19. Yes, my Sunny can be loud, but I don't classify her as a screamer, she goes with we most anywhere around the house, is a delight and a pest at the same time, but I wouldn't trade her for anything.
  20. Well, Beccy, look at the situation in China, you cannot be too careful, even of human grade foods.
  21. That is so true, Beccy, because it could cause all kinds of problems that you don't want to deal with.
  22. I'm sorry if that sounds morbid, but it is the truth and the older you get the more you realize that fact.

    Clicker Training

    I have not tried the clicker but a lot of people swear by it, so by all means let us know how you make out with it, depending on how well the response is I might give it a try.
  24. I just checked the site out, I want one of those, and I know just who will pay for it too.:laugh: :laugh:
  25. And you are doing such a good job of it too, Ian, I continue to be amazed by your brilliance.
