Update on SweetHeart if anyone remembers us lol
judygram replied to Ronda477's topic in The GREY Lounge
Oh yeah Ronda, we remember Sweetheart, and I have been wondering where you were lately, we haven't seen you for a while. I am glad to hear it is going ok for you and her, kind of progressing slowly but she had a traumatic experience in her flight to you and it will take time to let that pass. I am very happy to hear she is making all kinds of sounds now, that is usually what they do before they start trying to make words, at least she is being more vocal. Just keep working with her and it time she will be more accepting of sitting on you or letting you hold her but then that may just be the way she is, after all they have their own little personalities and she may just be a little more aloof than most. Don't stay away so long, you don't have to have some progress to report to be on the site and participate, your input and advice is welcome at any time and besides we love hearing from you. I have missed you in some of the games also so come on and join in and lets have a little fun!!! -
Its good to have you back if only for a short visit, hope you are doing all right and come back again soon and stay for awhile.

Kris your two cents is worth a lot more than that, you gave some very good advice, some people will do anything for monetary gain.

I haven't had a chance to go to the store where I think I will find it, is a long drive out of my way, but I will get some real soon, I want Josey to be able to try it, she may just like it too. Glad yours is enjoying it Terri!

My favorite is the snuggle baby, that is so cute, thanks Kitty for sharing these with us, a beautiful little quaker. -
I don't mean to sound harsh, but if your friend knows all about parrots then why do you feel the need to ask us a lot of questions about breeding greys. This forum is not in the business of breeding greys, we provide a place for grey owners to come together and ask questions on care, health, feeding, grooming and playing with our birds and just being a place for members to socialize with like owners. You need to speak with other grey breeders for the answers to your questions, someone who has plenty of experience in that field for help in what you are planning to undertake. And since you have no knowledge of it I would suggest you research it all you can but one thing I can tell you is you won't get rich off of it. Most people who do breed birds do it for the love of the bird not the money. That being said you are welcome to join us but I just wanted to be upfront on what you can expect.

When I went out to get the paper out of the box I saw a huge hawk in a tree in our yard, that is probably what my conure saw and became frightened, I have huge windows in my family room nearly up to the ceiling. The cages are in that room but on the opposite wall from the windows and those windows are definitely not drafty.

I am so sorry to hear this but it does not surprise me in the least. If they were neglecting him so much why would they want to take him home with them to visit. This bird has surely thrived in your care and you need to make them understand that he has a new loving home now and if they really loved this bird they will allow you to keep it. I am so pleased and happy that you have established a good relationship with this grey and I pray that you will be allowed to keep it. How these other people could treat it the way they did and supposedly love it is beyond me, they certainly do not deserve another chance, they blew the one they had. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that you will be allowed to keep this grey for they can see for themselves that it is doing great under your care. Keep us informed, JNKIR7, we want to know how this plays out.

I agree with Tari, having the cage too close to a window if lots of birds are flying around outside can frighten them and if the sun would be coming thru the window too much it could overheat them. Of course one side of the cage needs to be against a wall, it makes them feel more secure that way but their cage does need to be in the room with all the activity so they feel part of the flock. If you have other birds do not place the cages so close that they could reach over and get to one another like get at their toes.

Hello and welcome to the family, mbw799, glad you could join us and could you give us a little information about yourself and whether you have a grey or not. You are welcome regardless but it helps to know a little something about new members. Feel free to post any questions you may have and have some fun while you are here if you like.

Hello and welcome to the family, Sexything, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and these 3 greys of yours. You don't say much so how about giving us a little more information like what are the names of these greys, how long have you had them, do you have any other birds? I am not being nosy, it just helps to get to know you better to have a little info about them. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information but you probably don't need any for with 3 of them you probably know it all by now. But if you do have any specific questions do not hesitate to ask we will do our best to bet you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of these greys you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

I too use a black sheet to cover Josey's cage at night and have never had a problem with it. She goes quiet when I cover her and you don't hear any more out of her until I uncover her in the morning. I do the same with Sunny my sun conure. I have been doing this for as long as I have had them and of course they are used to it.
-
He could be stressed out because he saw something out the window that frightened him, I know my conure will notice a bird outside sometimes and watches very intently, it is just natural for them to be cautious of possible prey. On the other hand if you have any idea that he may be sick then get him in to see an avian vet, ASAP, when they show signs of being ill they are very sick indeed, for they hide it as long as possible.

Good choice, and is also my favorite college basketball team, go Blue Devils!!!

Hello and welcome to the family, Yasar, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Zazoo. I would like to hear some more about this 3 year old grey you have acquired, like how her relationship with her former owner was and why they gave her up to you. She may be missing her previous owner and plucking her feathers is her reaction to that. You have taken her away from maybe the only home she knew and maybe a new cage and she may be stressed out because of it. Is this the first parrot/grey you have had? You need to read and research everything you can so please go thru the threads here on this site for lots of useful and helpful information and do not hesitate to ask any specific questions you may have. We will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictues of Zazoo that you would like to share with us we would love to see her.

If these are her first eggs she just doesn't quite have the hang of it yet but yes I would find something similar looking to put in the eggs place.
-
I would remove them for the obvious reason that since they are cracked they are gonna start smelling soon. If you want to continue to leave "eggs" in the cage so she will not continue to lay just place some kind of balls that resemble an egg as suggested in another thead.
-
Poor little Nikki but she does not know she is different and this grey was meant to end up in your care for you love her unconditionally, she is special and you are truly blessed. I echo the others on the vet visit and follow his recommendations as to any adaptions needed for her cage and perches.

Is it safe to have a bird around cell phones?
judygram replied to coachdes's topic in The GREY Lounge
To tell you the truth I hadn't thought about it much, of course I don't use my cell phone around my birds so it is not a problem for me. Maybe one of the other members knows more and will share that knowledge with us.
