Hello and welcome to the family, Crazybird, glad you finally found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your flock. You do have quite the collection of animals and a lovely bunch from the looks of the pictures. I just love the two tiger striped kitties you have, I have a weakness for cats and they remind me of some I have had that were marked similar. I assume you were looking for the white tailed grey that we have a picture of in one of our threads, a very rare occurance but beautiful to behold. Not that you need it, but I always refer new members to the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information they might need and please just ask any specific questions you may have. We will do our best to get an answer and help you in any way we can. Thanks for sharing pictures of the members of your "zoo" with us without our even having to ask, I guess you could tell we love to look at pictures here. You are going to love it here, we do.

Oh my the sounds they pick up, and yes they pick the most obnoxious ones at that. Your only hope is he tires of it fast and be sure to ignore it when he does say it for if you give some kind of reaction he may keep it up for the entertainment it provides him. LOL Sorry about the crash and burn, it happens but glad you are back now and ready for posting.

I would put in a call to your vet anyways just to be sure about what to watch out for and certainly keep your eye on her for now. Hopefully she didn't chew the pips just swallowed them but then you never know. Please let us know how she does.

Thanks Deanna for a very enlightening post on responsible pet ownership and requirements of parrot owners. I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said and maybe this should be included in the FAQ section for future reference for prospective grey owners. So happy to hear you are a vet, maybe you can give us some advice from time to time and help out with some of the members problems with their greys, any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Too bad I didn't get the parrots over 40 years ago but then I would have missed out on two wonderful children and three grandchildren and I wouldn't have missed out on that for all the gold in China.
-
What lovely BIG dogs and having a good time in the snow, thanks Deanna for sharing them with us. BTW, send some of that snow my way, I would love to have some here in Virginia.

What lovely amazons you have and I just bet they are characters and they get along so well, I love the one of them preening each other. You are very lucky indeed and you do have a house full of pets, some nice looking dogs too. Thanks so much Deanna for sharing some pictures of your birds with us and I get a kick out of the one you labeled with the captions, what a hoot!!!

Thanks Skye, for updating your information for us, it helps to know a little more about new members so we can get to know you better. Accidents can and do happen and you cannot blame yourself but even though he escaped you did find him but by then he had gotten into something that was eventually toxic for him and lost him anyway. I do hope you can rescue a needy Cag, for unfortunately we do have too many of those because of people who do not understand what they are getting into when they get them. I am glad that you can find it in your heart to accept a rehomed grey, they usually come with baggage that has to be dealt with. How wonderful that you will have an aviary, I am so jealous, I don't have the room for that but then I only have one Cag and a sun conure, so just having separate cages for them is the best solution. Thanks for sharing the story of how you lost Maliik, I know it is a painful one but in sharing it with us you never know when you may help someone else in being more careful about their surroundings and possibly saving another grey life. I know you miss Maliik and you always will but if you can get another Cag it will go a long way to help fill the hole left by the loss of Maliik and what a tribute to her that would be.

Yes the list is impressive to say the least and it is all true but having a grey in the household is so rewarding and even though you turn your house upside down for them I wouldn't give up that for all the money in the world.

Thanks for updating the information, Beth, but Mariah does seem like she may be ill and there is no wasting time, I would see if she could be seen today, her life may depend on it. I would rather spend the extra money on just getting the peace of mind rather than risk losing her. Its cold here, I live in Virginia too, but just cover the travel cage or whatever you are transporting her in and warm the car up a little before taking her out and she will be fine.

Hello and welcome to the family, Richard, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey. BTW, what is the name of your grey? Lovemygreys gave you the best link for finding the sex of your grey and I believe it will be with the least cost to you. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful and helpful information on greys and other topics. Feel free to ask any specific questions you may have and we will do what we can to help. If you have a picture of your grey you would like to share with us we would love to see it.

Good morning, the sun is out here too but cold, maybe a little snow tomorrow but nothing to brag about. I'm off to do some errands and enjoy my last day to myself today, hubby comes home from a hunting trip tomorrow.

Hello and welcome to the family, Unopoo, glad you could join us but it sounds like you need some help here don't you. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother, that is never easy to deal with but I have lost both of my parents and I know what you are feeling right now. Do you know anything about parrots and the grey in particular? I know this was your mother's bird but depending on how long she had it do you have any other information you could share with us? How old is it, what is it's name, how long did she have it and so forth? It does sound like something is wrong and I would urge you to take it in to see an avian vet ASAP for birds hide illness until they no longer can so sometimes by the time illness shows it is very sick indeed. Do not try any home remedies, you need an expert's advice here. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any specific questions you may have. We will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have a picture of this grey you would like to share with us we would love to see it.

Pet insurance for Greys and other parrots?
judygram replied to vaya_the_elf's topic in The GREY Lounge
Tari is right, it is expensive, it only pays for part of the costs and they do have to approve the procedures that are performed, so you might just as well put aside that money you would have spent on the insurance to be used for those such emergencies as/if they occur. -
You can post photos here in the thread or put some on your profile page.
-
I would suggest you could feed it in small quantities just like regular cheese, I would read the label to see what exactly is in it, but moderation is key here.

Hello and welcome to the family, Vaya_the_elf, glad you could join us although you have posted in several threads already, jumping right in there. What a wonderful introduction, you have told us a lot about yourself so don't be sorry about that, we love hearing all about the new members, makes us feel like we really know you now. You are an animal lover, you have quite the little zoo going on with all those different pets and you work for a vet clinic, you have the best of both worlds. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask us any specific questions you may have. we will do our best to get you an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of Evening Star you would like to share with us we would love to see her.

Be sure to let us know what happens, Hilary, if you do get to bring it home, we are anxious to know.
-
No one said it would be easy, but there is no other way around it, so I wish you luck, let us know how it turns out for you.

I'm fresh out of ideas but I do like the idea of another contest to start off the new year, we haven't had one for a while now. Maybe someone else's brain is working better than mine right now.

Sam is young and it will take time and repeated taking him off the cage and putting him back on his perch but eventually he will learn that he has to stay off the quaker's cage. You may have to do this hundreds maybe thousands of times before he will stay off though.
-
You get nervous because you care, you know that there are unsafe materials out there and if you do not know which ones then you get nervous, happens to all of us, we all love our greys and would not want anything to happen to them, they are our life.

I have a travel cage from this site that I use for Josey when I travel with her or take her to the vet or even take her with me to work, it is a great size for her and works great. http://www.thecountryroost.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=28_29&osCsid=2d04a1a7579d18f8a8819933d11ec984

Vaya_the_elf, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and your two parrots.
