Hello and welcome to the family, Matt, glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey. I commend you for taking in an abused grey that has lost one wing, do you know how it came to be missing that wing? You will have to tell us the story of this grey and what kind of abuse it had to endure and how you came about getting it. If this grey was abused it is going to take a lot of time and patience to get it to trust you enough to allow you to get close to it. It is so sad that it was abused, how anyone could mistreat one is beyond me but if you are willing to take the time I believe it will come around. Please read thru the many threads on various topics for lots of useful and helpful information and do not hesitate to ask specific questions. We will do our best to get an answer and help you in any way we can. If you have any pictues of this grey that you would like to share with us we would love to see it. BTW, what is it's name? -
My heart bleeds, Kristin, you poor dear had to sleep under the covers because it got down in the low 60's, my gosh what is the world coming to.

I have to ask a few questions before I can be able to help you with your problem. How old is your grey, how long have you had her? I assume she is a rehomed grey since you mention a previous home. What is her name?
-
Congrats on teaching her to step up, some new owners have a problem with that one. One useful "trick" would be to get her to stay on her playstand or whatever you put her on when she is out of the cage. This involves continuing to put her back every time she comes off of it even if it is a hundred or a thousand times, eventually she will learn that she is to stay where you put her. You should recognize the signs of getting ready to poop already, they usually back up a little and squat down and wiggle their tail, catch her as she starts doing that and you will catch her in time to take her where you want her to go. Give her some type of word command for her to associate with going and eventually she will know what that means.

I don't think there is any one person that knows everything about greys even on this site but we know enough to properly take care of our feathered friends. Glad to hear you are enjoying your little one.

73 degrees is fine, in fact whatever temperature you feel comfortable in they will be fine with. Wow now that is something that Bella allowed Jiggy to preen her, heck they may just get along real good. I would like to see that if you can capture that on video.
-
Jody I am so glad it is going well for you and Maui and happy to hear we have been at least a little helpful to you. We really do have wonderful members here on this forum and any one of them will chime in with their suggestions and ideas. Thanks for updating us on how it is going for you and Maui and we look forward to seeing some new pictures and maybe some video of Maui.

Well if Frankie's dreams come true it will be because he makes it happen, he is in charge of his own destiny and he will come out on top, that I have no doubt about. Please do keep us updated for we care about you and miss you on the forum. B)

Terri it is normal for them to shed some dander, they share that trait with the cockatoos but a humidifier would probably make her more comfortable and help you feel warmer at a lower temperature.

Its so funny that my two birds, Sunny a sun conure and Josey my grey, but especially Sunny will start calling for me as soon as they hear me pull up outside. It's like, oh boy, Mommy is home!!!
-
I think that was exactly what he was telling you, he was truly excited to have you home and he wanted you to pay him some attention instead of passing him by. They do not like being ignored so it was not wishful thinking. And believe me he will start making a lot more sounds than that beep, just give him some time and he will start imitating all sorts of sounds and then words.

Thursday, January 3, 2008 I believe it is time for a revival of this thread with some of the happenings that are going on here lately. I would like to see ALL members reread CeasarsDad's opening post at the beginning of this thread, it sums it up nicely and if everyone practices what he preaches then we will have no problems. This is all I ask and it means so much to all of us and all of you mean so much to me.

Thanks for sharing that video of Kimi, he is such a sweetheart:kiss:
-
Josey has not shown that territorial thing with her in the cage and I usually can pretty much get her out whenever I want by telling her to come on out. Probably as she gets older I will face that more and more but for now she is more like Dayo and can get possesive of items or toys but not the cage.

There you go my man Joe, I gave you some more karma, always laying on the charm for the ladies and we eat it up like candy, thanks for the sweet words. {Love-0002011E}

We will be waiting for an update soon, Sunny:)
-
Kind of looks like it doesn't it, feeding the birds to earn him some karma, I guess I should give him some, he deserves it thats for sure:kiss:

I'm coming over to the UK, I want some snow, now what do I have to do to get it............ Its certainly cold enough, in the single digits when I got up this morning, but clear skies and sunny at 8:20 am on a Thursday morning, weekend is almost here and will be up to 60 by Sunday, no snow at that temp.
-
Always glad to make someone happy:) B)
-
Hey Kat, I just gave you some karma to bring you up to par with your posts, but thanks for mine.B)

Well to tell the truth there is not another bird that will go with a grey, not that a lot of us only have our grey and no other birds for we do. I personally have a sun conure and a grey but they have separate cages and do not interact at all, they nip at each other if they get too close. If you are looking at getting a cuddly type bird then get a cockatoo, they don't call them velcro birds for nothing. In all likelihood even if you get another grey you won't be able to put them in the same cage and they may not get along at all.
