  1. I think its great, you have achieved quite a feat here if she is not flying away, this was what you wanted and you are getting it. She is slowly learning you are not going to hurt her and this has taken a long time but we don't preach time and patience for nothing. I think you have gone about this the right way, it has worked for you and your hubby and I can't be more pleased with the results. You should be very proud of yourselves and it will only get better, she may never be the cuddle lover that some of the members here have but she is bonding with you more and more every day. Looks like she is going to favor you more than your hubby but that is what you preferred anyway wasn't it, the goffin is his bird, lets hope it doesn't favor you over him. Pat yourself on the back Ronda, small steps they may be but it is a huge accomplishment believe me. Thanks for letting us know:P

  3. I have some big windows in my family room so it is not necessary to have any kind of lights on during the day but if your room doesn't have many windows then you may need some lights on when it is so dreary outside.
  4. I so hope that Angie doesn't start plucking again and maybe the change in food is helping her but keep us informed Rae and I hope we see pics soon of a full feathered Angie.
  5. I'm surprised he had the time Dan, that Dayo is a busy boy.......:laugh: A sweet and gentle tomboy, what a combination Terri:P
  6. Those are very good and very funny Ronda, thanks for sharing them with us women:laugh: :laugh: :laugh: Love this: "God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece". Thank you, thank you, thank you Ronda :lol:
  7. Thanks Melissa for the laugh, I guess one state trooper has a sense of humor:laugh:
  8. That is awesome Tracy, thanks so much for sharing that with us, I also like the way she said it is a life not just a bird.
  9. Then all went well for Juji, she was glad to have you back and that makes you feel so wonderful doesn't it Hannah.
  10. Thats great to hear Rae and you can also try putting a little of the red palm oil in some oatmeal also and feeding it to her. I hope the plucking does not start again but yes I know that she could start again, just keep her busy and that will help keep her mind off it.
  11. Laurie is right, sometimes there are some great deals on cruises out there, you should not rule them out entirely but I know where you are coming from, with 3 kids you have your priorities but one day you can have that dream become a reality if you wish and plan.
  12. So true Ronda, so true.:laugh: :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:
  13. You are so right, it will take lots of time and patience, they really do take things slowly and being an adult bird he is more set in his ways. But you are making some progress and small steps are just what you should expect right now, in time he will probably step up for you and sit with you but you have to work up to that for now. One way to tell about the age is by the eye color, adult greys eyes are more yellow looking versus a lighter shade when younger. The weight of the bird is no indication of age, they vary in weight from 300+ to over 600 grams in weight, some are just bigger. A real indication of whether he is fat is by feeling the keelbone, if it is prominent then he is not fat but if it is hardly felt then he may be too fat. They do love to mimic other sounds and count yourself lucky that he is only copying finch and canary calls, my Josey screams like my sun conure and that is not really funny. You are doing a fine job just continue on and in time he will make more improvements.
  14. I won't wait that long, believe me!!! {Feel-good-0002006E}
  15. Tracy you are fast, real fast, you beat me to the punch, thanks so much.
  16. Yes hair length or hairdo can make a difference in her behavior, I don't have that problem since mine is short so it is the same all the time. I think in time this will resolve itself, just continue to do what you are doing and she will get used to it being both ways.
  17. Hello Arkbart4 and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and no you do not have to own a grey to be a part of our family, you do have the one factor that is shared by all of us and that is a love of birds. I am sure Peanut is quite a character, most B&G macaws are and we do have some members who also own macaws and a few are B&G ones. They are gorgeous creatures and yours is no exception from the photo in your avatar. Read thru many of the threads here for lots of useful information that would apply to macaws also and do not hesitate to ask questions you may have. We will do our best to get you some answers and help you in any way we can. We do have an other birds room where you can share a few photos of Peanut if you would like, we would love to see more of him, especially full length body shots, B&G macaws are very pretty and I love looking at them.
  18. Go ahead Ronda and get them kids some geckos, you know you want to, do it:laugh: B)
  19. Thanks Ronda:laugh: {Feel-good-0002006E}
  20. Thanks Kat for sharing your story with us, what works for one person may not work for another but glad it worked for you. I am so proud of you and I cannot imagine how smokers must feel since I am a nonsmoker but I know it is a hard thing to do. Maybe Laurie can try the hypnotism again but on a one on one deal like you did but regardless if she wants to quit I wish her the best of luck and to anyone else out there that wants to quit. Good luck to you too Funkygirl, if you want it you can do it.
  21. He has probably bonded with you and maybe only likes males, some greys are that way in relating to one sex over another, thats why he does not like your wife. But then he probably views you as his mate, I remember he is 5 years old so he is sexually mature, so he sees her as a rival for your affections. He will probably in all likelihood prefer you over her but she can still have a relationship with him, it just won't be the same as yours. Let her be the one to give him treats and in time he will tolerate her more, just don't force him on her. Thanks for updating us on your new addition and how he is settling in and in time I think he will be better with her but it will just take some time and lots of patience. You can't rush a grey.
  22. And since yours is posted in the Pet Memorial room I thought it would be nice to have it as a sticky so people coming to that room to share a loss with us would see it first off, it is a good read for those in mourning.
  23. You've got the disease, MBS, and there is no cure.
  24. Well all you that are going to make your own playstands please post a pic of them so we all can admire them and maybe make one ourselves.
