You might have to rethink the shoulder thing with this grey, some greys should not be on the shoulder for just that very reason. You might have to use the other hand to block him from going up there and just keep doing it until he finally learns he is not allowed there. I do allow Josey to go up on my shoulder but then she can be trusted, she will come down when I ask and I am always conscious of her body language but if that trust ever comes down then she will not be allowed up there anymore.

Probably not as a grey chooses who they bond with but you can allow her to be the one to give treats and such. Let her have some interaction time when you are not around for if he sees you he will only want to go to you. She can use treats to entice him to want to come to her and she can have a relationship with him but not like yours. Yours is not the first one to have this problem, two people get a grey and it bonds with one and not the other, your grey may continue to only allow you to do certain things but he can learn that she is not a threat to you and your grey's relationship. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about you and your grey.

I am female and my grey Josey is DNA'd a female and she is bonded to me, I don't put much faith in that belief that only males bond with females and vice versa. Congrats on your decision to add this grey to your flock, it sounds like there is a connection already and with our help I am sure you will be able to make this grey a fine addition to your family.

Dan is right, they do love chicken bones, they will crack them up so they can get to that marrow in the middle. With that name of Savage what a picture your avatar makes:laugh:

Those are some good shots of Spencer and Iknow you can't wait to get him home so you can love on him all you want, thanks for sharing them with us.

Hello Stefanie and welcome to the family, so glad you could finally come on in and join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Malcolm. Well I can attest that my Josey does not care for sunflower seeds herself and I couldn't be happier, she loves her Harrison's pellets and eats a variety of fresh foods as well. I like to think that we do have a very fine resource here for greyt information, we do have some very knowledgeable members who know what they are talking about and are more than willing to help with any problems you might have. As you have already found out we have loads of info in our many threads and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks for including a pic of Malcolm, he is a good looking Tag and I just bet he is quite a character.

Hello Brian and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Savage. Do we have to ask how he came to be named Savage? That is an interesting name for a grey. Some greys do not enjoy baths and mine is no exception but they are necessary so hopefully yours will tolerate it as mine does. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Savage you would like to share with us we would love to see him.

I have a cold as well and am taking mine to Florida with me tomorrow on vacation, I tried to make it stay at home while I went but it won't let me go without it so I am stuck with it:whistle:

Hello Shazgeoff and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Eddie. I can tell that Eddie, male or female, is going to be spoiled rotten in no time, I know mine is and I think everyone else here spoils theirs rotten to the core. You are still in the honeymoon phase right now but Eddie should be getting a little more independent in the coming months and years, he/she may not be so cuddly and want to snuggle like he does right now but that is all part of the maturing process. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Eddie you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

Hello Onetteselfish and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your greys, Pappy and Maya. What lovely names for your greys, I hope you will be able to post a few pictures of them so we can admire them, we love to look at pictures here. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Sounds like Pappy is a little scared of Maya and easily frightened and Maya is the opposite, this is a good example of how they are so individual in their personality.

Hello Sehar and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Timmy. Yes I would continue with the hand feedings as long as he will eat it, can't hurt him and he will pick up a little more weight until he starts trying to fly then he might lose a little but he will pick that back up too. You have come to the right place looking for advice, we have a great bunch of knowledgeable members who are more than willing to help a new owner out when they need it, all you have to do is ask. In the meantime please read thru as many of the threads as you can for you will find lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I look forward to seeing some pictures of Timmy when you get around to posting some.

I too am so sorry to hear that your Congo is missing and since July, that is a long time but yes there is still hope, I pray that he is safe and will be returned to you but in the meantime I will keep you and Congo in my thoughts and prayers.

OMG Jim, karma coming your way for being a brave man. :cheer:

Aww thanks Caroline for sharing some pictures of you and your boys, they are darling and you are a beautiful woman, love the brown hair, used to be my natural color until the gray took over. They are a handful I am sure but you are loving every minute of it, they are so lucky to have you for a mom.

Pat is right, we have heard so many stories of others wanting to rehome their birds for various reasons and your thread is a prime example of coping and doing what you have to and still maintain a happy and healthy relationship with your fids. That extra effort pays off in deep rewards and your relationship with your birds is all the better for it. Thanks Lyn for sharing your story with us.

Sorry to hear that Alfie did indeed have mites but glad to hear that they are gone now and he even has a new birdie bunker, you did the right thing in tossing the other one. He may not like his aloe baths but they are certainly helping him a lot it seems so keep it up. Speaking for myself, I am no expert but we do have some members whose knowledge is vast and they are willing to share it with the rest of us to help us out with our problems and I thank them.

Thanks for the update on Kima and glad to hear that all is well for him and talking now too. Congrats on the first word, that is always a treat to hear and many more will follow in the coming weeks and months, you will be amazed I'm sure. :cheer:

Thats great news about Indy, now you can quit worrying but its hard not to sometimes, we care so much for our fids.

She is a cutie, Janet, thanks for sharing them with us.

Hello Tony and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this grey you are getting. I think if you are willing to make the lifetime committment to owning and taking care of a grey then go for it, he may come with some baggage but if you are willing to take the time then he should be a fine addition to your family. You are certainly going to get a little noise when you bring a grey into the home but they are generally quiet birds, they are vocal for several times during the day but otherwise are quiet. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. When you get the chance take some pictures of Joey and share them with us so we can see how lovely he looks.

Thanks Erika and I earned every one of them.  Plastic surgery, I wouldn't do that even if I could afford it, it would be a major undertaking on my body, not sure anyone has ever had that much surgery and lived.:silly:
-
I don't have that problem as I let the gray take over a long, long time ago, I save money that way and I don't have to worry about the birds and besides its well on its way to being white which is what I eventually want anyways. :side: :woohoo:

Lucky you Steve, wish I could go along but I am going on a vacation myself on Friday. Me, hubby, my two kids, their spouses and the two older grandkids are flying to Florida to Disney World for a week. This is the first vacation I have had for a couple of years now and I deserve it:whistle:  Thats great that you are going to Paradise Point to see the parrots, that does sound wonderful, enjoy and get us some pictures please.

judygram replied to pikseerin's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Erin and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new baby grey you are getting. You do have quite a zoo there but a grey will fit in nicely as long as you supervise all time out of the cage with those dogs and cats around. You will learn much here from our many knowledgeable members and do read thru the threads for lots of useful information that will prove invaluable in the coming days, weeks and months down the road. You may ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I look forward to seeing some pictures of this new grey and you can share some pics of your other flock members in the other birds room if you like.
